But this name belongs to 78-year-old James Harrison—an Australian man who has donated blood almost every week, saving more than 2 million babies in the process. Harrison told CNN, an American channel, about why he chooses to donate, even though it's not the most pleasurable experience: "Never once have I watched the needle go in my arm. I can't stand the sight of blood, and I can't stand pain." An amazingly unique antibody(抗体) in Harrison's blood makes it a true lifesaver for babies who could be affected by rhesus disease. The condition occurs during some pregnancies, when a woman who has rhesus-negative blood produces antibodies that destroy her babies' cells. This can happen when the baby has the same rhesus-positive blood as the father. Rhesus disease can cause health issues in babies. It can even result in death. Harrison, blood helped physicians develop an injection called Anti-D in the 1960s, which prevents women who have rhesus-negative blood from developing the harmful antibodies while pregnant. After Harrison completes one of his routine donations, his blood can be used to create more vaccines(疫苗). "I started donating in 1955, two days after I turned 18," Harrison said when he completed his 1,075th donation. As CNN reported, every Anti-D vaccine created in Australia has something to do with a donation from Harrison, who holds the record for most blood donations in Australia. "A number of mothers have come up to me and said, 'Thank you very much for what you've done, because I now have one, two, three healthy children', "Harrison said. Harrison's own daughter, Tracey Mellowship, had been one of the 17 percent of women who need Anti-D during their pregnancy. The injection helped guarantee her second son would be born healthy. "Dad had always donated—we knew that," Mellowship said. "But it didn't hit home until I was pregnant and knew the consequences."From the first two paragraphs, what can we infer about Harrison?A. He is humorous and smart. B. He is brave and unselfish.C. He is friendly but nervous. D. He is optimistic but weak.25. What can we learn about the babies affected by rhesus disease?A. They have the same blood type as their mothers.B. They develop the disease after being born.C. They can't form Wood themselves.D. They grow problematic cells.26. Harrison's blood can ________.A. help patients develop Anti-D B. help avoid the risk of rhesus diseaseC. cure rhesus disease affected babies D. stop babies from producing antibodies27. Before Mellowship was injected Anti-D, her family didn't ________.A. understand the meaning of Harrison's actB. expect she would have another healthy sonC. realize the high rate of potential rhesus diseaseD. know Harrison held a record for donating bloodCUsually, tornadoes(龙卷风) are more common in the spring and summer months. Knowing what to do before and during a tornado can save your life and the life of your loved ones. When you hear that you are in a tornado watch,it means that tornadoes or other kinds of dangerous weather are on the way. You need to be ready to go to a safe shelter if tornadoes do happen or if there is a warning. Listen to local radio or TV programmes for the update so that you have information to make decisions about your safety. Tornado warnings mean that a tornado has been seen, or that radar has shown there would be a tornado. When a tornado warning is issued for your town or county, take shelter immediately. Tornado sirens(警报器) warn people who are outdoors. Do not expect to hear sirens if you are indoors. Listen to weather reports and watch TV if you are indoors. Remember to have fresh batteries for your radios and flashlights. Plan ahead for tornado watches and warnings. Talk to your family, friends and neighbours so that you know safe places to go to get out of danger. Here are some important tips: • Take shelter in a basement, away from any windows. If you are in a house or building with no basement, go to the lowest floor, a small centre room such as a bathroom or closet, under the stairs, or in an inside hallway with no windows. • If you are in a mobile home or trailer, plan ahead and get out! It is not safe to be in a mobile home or trailer during a tornado. You need to make plans with family, friends or neighbours to go to a safer, stronger home or another building to take shelter. • It is very risky to be in a car or truck during a tornado. Know if there are tornado watches in the area and avoid driving into dangerous situations. Instead, take shelter in a basement or strong building. • Have an emergency kit ready and keep it in your safe area. A few ideas for things to have in an emergency kit would be water, a flashlight, food (like crackers, peanut butter, granola bars),a radio that uses batteries, any medications you need, and a first-aid kit.If you need any further information about preparing for the tornado season or making an emergency kit, call the Four Corners Health Department at (402)362-2621 or click here to view the website http://www. yorknewstimes. com.If you are told that you're in a tornado watch, __________. A. it means that you should wear your watch B. it means tornadoes are possible in the area C. it means that you have found a safe shelter D. it means tornadoes will leave where you are29. What should you do when you are in a trailer and a tornado comes? A. You should remain still in the running trailer. B. You should find a bathroom to hide in. C. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days, a brush was made from camel’s hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush. The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing. The cat’s lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin’s cousins, Mr. Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin’s drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes. He also sent six engravings(版画) by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had ever seen. In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr.Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin’s parents if he might take the boy back to Philadelphia for a visit. In the city, Mr.Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape(风景) painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said, "Those two books were my companions by day, and under my pillow at night." While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist. What is the text mainly about?Benjamin’s visit to Philadelphia.Williams’ influence on Benjamin. The beginning of Benjamin’s life as an artist. The friendship between Benjamin and Pennington. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 suggest? The cat would be closely watched. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he had never seen, the girl with a rose. His interest in her began thirteen months ago in a library. Taking a book off the shelf, he found himself fascinated, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin (页边的空白). The soft handwriting showed a thoughtful soul and brilliant mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the owner's name,Miss Hollis Maynell. With time and effort he found her address. She lived in New York City. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to correspond (通信). The next day he was shipped overseas for military service.During the next year and one month, the two begun to know each other by mail. Each letter was a seed falling on both hearts. A romance was budding. Blanchard asked for a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn't matter what she looked like. When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting — 7 pm at the Grand Central Station in New York. “You'll recognize me,” she wrote. “By the red_rose I'll wear my dress.” So at 7:00 he was in the station looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he'd never seen.A young lady was coming toward him. Her figure was long and slim; her blonde hair lay back from her ears; her eyes were blue as flowers; her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, andin her pale green suit she was like springtime coming alive. He went toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As he moved, a middleaged woman whispered, “Going my way, Sir?”注意:1. 续写词数应150左右:2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Paragraph 1:Almost uncontrollably he made his way to the woman, and then he noticed that she was wearing a red rose._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:The woman's face broadened into a big smile. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________2020-2021学年度上学期高二年级期末考试听 力:1—5 ABACA 6—10 CACBA 11—15 BBCCB 16—20 ABBCA 阅读理解:21—23 BDA 24-27 BDBA 28—31 BDCC 32—35 CDBD 七选五: 36—40 DGEAF 完形填空:41—45 CACDA 46—50 BBDCB 51—55 CABDD 语篇填空:56.in 57.cities 58.who 59.to read 60.was destroyed61.the 62.has been 63.better 64.it 65.suffering应用文范文:Dear exchange students from New Zealand,I am Lihua, chairman of the Student Union. (1) Do you want to play?W: No, I’ve got tennis practice today and tomorrow. But maybe this weekend?M: My younger brother has a baseball tournament then…W: OK.Text 2W: I need a bike to get to my new job. How much does this one cost?M: That bike is the cheapest one we have, and it costs $200. But this bike is much better and costs $220.W: Thanks, but I’ll take the cheaper one. I also want this helmet that costs $30. (2)Text 3M: What exactly are you looking for?W: I am looking for a collection of the 19th century European paintings.M: Is it the book on your left, the one with the yellow cover? (3)W: Let me see. Yeah, this is what I want. Thanks a lot. Text 4W: Well, your computer is broken. It won’t turn on. How did you break it? M: I don’t know. I dropped it two weeks ago, but it was working well until yesterday. It’s seven years old, though. I think it was almost time to get a new one, anyway. (4)Text 5W: My father is a man who knows what’s important in life — he has a demanding job, but he still makes time for his children. (5)M: That’s really special. Most people with important jobs aren’t able to do that.Text 6 W: Wow, I had no idea you were such a good artist! When did you learn to paint?M: I started studying one year ago. But I’ve been drawing since I was five years old. (6) I’ve also been taking pictures for six years, when my dad gave me my first camera for my birthday. I think photography has really helped me with my painting. W: Your art is great! (7) Why don’t you tell people you’re an artist?M: I’m too shy to tell anybody about my art. Text 7M: Which countries have you been to?W: I’ve been to most of the countries in Europe, several countries in Asia — China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand — and to the United States and Canada. W: Isn’t it really cold there?M: Well, the north of Norway is almost always cold, but farther south, it can be fairly warm in summer. It’s a wet country, so there’s snow almost everywhere in winter. (9)Text 8 M: Hey, I’m calling to say that I’m running late to the airport. Can you make sure that the plane doesn’t take off without me?W: I’ll try. M: Thank you. I’m just sitting here in traffic. That’s impossible!W: You can ask to skip to the head of the line in security. They’re usually pretty good about that when you think you might miss your flight.M: I hope so. It has played a central role in every major cultural movement in New York City for the last 100 years. As you can see, it is located between 6th St. and 4th St. in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. (17) The park covers eight city blocks, or just under ten acres. Surrounding the park on all sides is New York University; those brick buildings covered in dark green plants have been around since 1871, when the park first opened. Many of those buildings used to serve as homes and studios for artists, and the benches in the park are popular places for painters, poets, dancers, and singers to get together. The park’s fountain area has long been one of the city’s most popular spots for residents and tourists, and children love to skate and play games around the fountain. (19) There are two special areas for dogs to run around, (18) and during the hot summer months, many food and drink stands are set up inside the park. One of Washington Square Park’s most recognizable features is the Washington Arch, which was built in 1889. (20) It was modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which was built in 1806.(Washington Square Park:华盛顿广场公园位于纽约市,最显赫的两个景点为纪念华盛顿的拱门以及一个大型喷泉。园内摆放着多尊雕像,如乔治·华盛顿、亚历山大·利曼·荷利和朱塞佩·加里波底。)
