I knew one day I would move to New York City to work in television. So when I got a job at one of the three big networks in New York at the age of 24, I was elated. This was where I had always wanted to be. I spent the next 12 years in a variety of roles at the same company. I had the perfect arrangement that most people thought a job for life. "You're so lucky" was what I heard over and over again. And I was.But I also started to notice cracks (裂缝) in the media world I had come to love so much. A new kind of competition cropped up in the form of social media and new digital media. News was changing. I knew I couldn't stay where I was; I must accept the change and be part of creating it. When I told my colleagues that I was thinking about leaving the network and going to work at an online start-up, I got a lot of crazy looks. "Why would you make such a risky move?""What if it fails?""You can‘t be seriously considering this.”I didn't listen to their advice because I knew not every good experience is defined(定义) by success or failure. Sometimes it’s about running the risk pushing the limits and having faith in an idea. What would the world be like today if we only acted when we could see the outcome? Our new online company, Huffpost Live, has been on the air for several months and is doing amazingly well. I didn't listen when people told me to take the safe route. I’m proud that I didn't take the advice of the so-called experts and chose to make the change.4. She had taken great risks.C. She felt regret about that. D. She made a right decision.CBefore you throw your trash into the nearest can, think for a moment. Not all your garbage can be dumped into one trashcan. It needs to be sorted out with different things going into different bins. Waste classification, a practice that has long been normal in developed countries like Japan, is the new challenge for many Chinese urban residents. However, though initially you might need to rack your brains (绞尽脑汁) to figure out which trash goes into which can, in the long run, the result is well worth the effort.     Landfills, sites where waste is buried and covered over with soil, are a major method of disposing of residential waste in China. However, considering the environmental disaster associated with burying waste, there is a pressing need to reduce the amount of waste that goes into a landfill. Classification, sorting waste into different categories such as harmful waste, recyclables and kitchen waste, is a key solution.     Currently, 46 cities across China, are carrying out a program that aims to put in place a classification-based garbage disposal system by the end of 2020. It is hoped that this will reduce the quantity of waste that ends up in landfills by a large degree. Shanghai came into the media focus in early July after it carried out compulsory garbage sorting rules that those who fail to dispose of garbage properly should be fined. Beijing is reviewing its regulations to follow in Shanghai's footsteps. The new rules may cause short-term inconvenience but they are meant to help residents follow the concept of garbage classification for the common good.     As the programs show, residents can gradually develop this habit with their growing awareness and the help of advanced technology. In future, this practice should be adopted across China, in urban cities and rural areas alike. With public involvement, China's garbage sorting program will contribute not only to the nation's sustainable (可持续的) development but also to making the planet a better place to live in.8. What is the most probable reason for classifying waste? ______ A. No site for burying waste.  B. People's habit. C. Economic cost.  D. Environmental pollution.9. What is the purpose of the program? ______ A. To practise waste classification. B. To protect environment. C. To save soil for farming. D. To reduce the quantity of waste.10. What can be a suitable title for the text? ______ A. A program adopted across China. B. Shanghai carried out new disposal rules. C. Doing the best with waste. D. Protecting environment is necessary.11. What is likely to happen in China according to the text? ______ A. China will become the leading country of the program. B. The program will be spread nationwide. C. Development in rural areas will make great progress. D. People will help develop modern technology.DStarting the day on an egg could keep your blood pressure(血压) under control, research suggests. Scientists have shown that eggs produce proteins with a function similar to that of powerful blood pressurelowering drugs. The research, from the University of Alberta in Canada, showed that when eggs come in contact with stomach enzymes(酶) they produce a protein that acts in the same way as ACE inhibitors, but more work is needed to show the effects outside a lab and in the human body.Earlier this month,British researchers declared that, contrary to popular beliefs,it is healthy to go to work on an egg. They concluded that the type of cholesterol(胆固醇) found in eggs has little effect on increasing heart disease risks.Researcher Professor Bruce Griffin, from the University of Surrey, said, “The wrong beliefs linking egg eating to high blood cholesterol and heart disease must be corrected. The amount of fat in our diet has an effect on blood cholesterol that is several times greater than the relatively small amounts of cholesterol found in eggs. The UK public do not need to be limiting the number of eggs they eat. They can be encouraged to include them in a healthy diet as they are one of nature's most nutritious foods.”The British Heart Foundation dropped its threeeggaweek limit in 2005. However, almost half of Britons believe the limit still applies.12.From the text we know that “ACE inhibitors” are ________.A.a kind of medicine B.a kind of protein C.a kind of illness D.a kind of food13.According to what Professor Bruce said, eggs ________.A.are the most nutritious food B.have no effect on blood cholesterolC.can be included in a healthy diet D.are forbidden to be eaten in the UK14. We can infer from the text that _________.drugs to lower blood pressure will be replaced by eating eggs.stomach enzymes mixed with eggs can cure heart diseases.most Britons agree the threeeggaweek limit should be dropped.about 50% of Britons think eating an egg a day is bad for their health.15.The text is meant ________.A.to introduce scientific findings about eggs B.to introduce a medicine made from eggsC.to tell people how to lower their blood pressure D.to advise people to eat as many eggs as possible第二节(共5个小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余项。Are you sometimes stressed?
