As is known to us all, the stories we share with one another are significant, which shows our wisdom, providing our inspiration and attaching importance to our development. But occasionally people choose not to tell.
Consider the negative effects of not sharing a story in the news: People are wondering if public health officials are holding back too much information about the recent outbreak of Ebola.
There is a danger in holding back stories that ought to be told. Bobette Buster said it was like this, “The fact is, history has shown us that stories not told can become like a dangerous genie (妖怪) left in a bottle. When they are finally uncorked, their power to destroy is set free.”
There are a number of reasons why we hide parts of our story: they often show our weaknesses or expose our disadvantages; they require courage and strength to share, and of course, there are some stories that should be kept secret — especially those that embarrass someone else.
Most of us have two selves: the one we display on the outside and the one we actually are on the inside. And the better we get at hiding the stories that show our true selves, the more damage we may be causing to ourselves and to others.
Honesty and openness is important. It proves we are trustworthy. It displays we are human. We are not perfect or better. It highlights the importance of hard work and personal development. Hard work may not allow us to overcome our disadvantages completely. But with hard work, we do not have to be restricted to our mistakes.
Does this mean we admit every weakness, every disadvantage, and every secret regret to everybody we meet? No, of course not. There is a time and a place and a certain level of relationship necessary for some stories to be told in an appropriate manner.
8. What’s the function of the example in Paragraph 2?
A. It reflects that people are concerned about the spread of Ebola.
B. It proves not sharing a story can cause trouble.
C. It concludes that one should share a story at a proper time.
D. It shows the bad effect caused by sharing a story.
9. Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “uncorked” in Paragraph 3?
A freed B. broken C. unfolded D. untouched
10. One of the reasons why people are unwilling to share experiences is that _______.
A. story-sharing highlights the importance of hard work
B. some stories make people feel sad
C. people are used to exposing their weaknesses
D. people sometimes have no courage to share their stories
11. The writer aims to convince us to _______.
A. remove the dangers that can be caused by untold stories
B. be open to people close to you by sharing some secrets
C. share stories appropriately for the good of others and ourselves
D. realize the importance of being honest when making friends
B 9. A 10. D 11. C

The World Health Organization warns that millions of people are dying every year from indoor air pollution. Nearly three billion people are unable to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking, heating as well as lighting.
These findings show that the use of deadly fuels in inefficient stoves, space heaters or lights is to blame for many of these deaths.
WHO officials say indoor pollution leads to early deaths from stroke, heart and lung disease, childhood pneumonia and lung cancer. Women and girls are the main victims. These diseases can often result from the burning of solid fuels. These fuels include wood, coal, animal waste, crop waste and charcoal.
The United Nations found that more than 95 percent of households in sub-Saharan Africa depend on solid fuels for cooking. It says huge populations in India, China and Latin American countries, such as Guatermala and Peru, are also at risk.
Nigel Brace is a professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool. He says researchers are developing good cook-stoves and other equipment to burn fuels in a more efficient way. There are already multiple technologies available for use in clean fuels. There is really quite an effective and reasonably low-cost alcohol stove made by Dometic (a Sweden-based company) that is now being tested out. LPG (Liquefield Petroleum Gas) cook is obviously widely available and efforts are under way to make those efficient. Another interesting development is electric induction stoves. WHO experts note that some new, safe and low-cost technologies that could help are already available. In India, you can buy an induction stove for about $8.00. And in Africa you can buy a solar lamp for less than $1.00.
But this, the agency says, is just a start. It is urging developing countries to use cleaner fuels and increase access to cleaner and more modern cooking and heating appliances/devices.
12 What does the indoor pollution mainly result from?
A. Poisonous fuels. B. High technology. C. Space heaters. D. Solar energy.
13. How is Paragraph 3 mainly developed?
A. By showing differences. B. By describing a process.
C. By making a list. D. By analyzing data.
14. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Indoor pollution results in some deaths.
B. Most of the deaths are in developing countries.
C. The solid fuels are used in more effective ways.
D. There is no indoor pollution in developed countries.
15. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. LPG cooks are being tested out. B. Alcohol stoves are widely used now.
C. Electric induction stoves are expensive. D. Solar lamps are very cheap in Africa.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D

After graduating from high school, I'm going to be computer programmer, which I think is on great demand in the modern world. Moreover, my parents would like me to study medicine. They believe here are two reasons for being a doctor. One is that doctors usually deal with patients in person, which mean they are able to help people in need direct. The other is that doctors are so important that it is almost impossible for it to lose jobs. Up to now I have chatted with my parents for three time. To my disappointment, I was failed to persuade them. Now I am confusing about how to solve the problem.
【答案】1) be后加a
2) on→in
3) Moreover→However
4) here→there
5) mean →means
6) direct →directly
7) it →them
8) time →times
9)去掉was
10) confusing →confused
故在be后加a。
故将on改为in。
4)考查there be句型,there be 表示“有”,故将here改成there。
It is impossible for sb. to do sth,此处代词指代doctors,应用them,故将 it 改为them。
8)考查名词单复数,time 表示次数时是可数名词,三次three times,故将 time 改为times。
9) 考查动词固定搭配,fail to do sth.

Better Learning Habits Lead to Better Results
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Better Learning Habits Lead to Better Results
Many people fail to achieve ideal results even though they have strong interests in what they learn. The fact is that it can be quite difficult to have a better outcome without better learning habits.
When it comes to English learning, reflection can be one of the good habits. For example, to improve speaking skill, top English learners may record their speech and find out the wrong pronunciations when they listen. Their speaking ability develops by reflecting on their performances.
Forming better habits requires time and energy, so my suggestion is: never give up and keep practicing. Only in this way can we receive better results which meet our expectations.
