Gina Camelli didn't set out to be a hero. In fact, she didn't even mean to be recognized for her efforts. Instead, Camelli's task was simple: to give back to the community where she was raised. And that's just what she did.
Warren, Ohio, lies just thirteen miles north of Youngstown, the former center of steel production, and now one of the poorest cities in the country. Thirty years ago, Camelli was a student at Warren High School where she now teaches Advanced Placement Psychology. As the economy took a fall, Camelli started to notice that not enough students had access to basic necessities, such as food, clothing and personal daily products. This economic uncertainty can have a lasting influence on students - affecting everything from the way they learn, to their ability to deal with social and emotional (情感的) issues. Knowing this, Camelli decided to organize Paw Pantry.
Whether it's for food, clothes, school supplies or personal daily products, students and their parents can register for the district's website and fill out a request form for Paw Pantry products. From there, they can choose to pick their goods up and have them delivered to their schools or homes. Over a year has passed since the Paw Pantry began. Camelli has collected a lot of food, clothing, lunch boxes, backpacks, school supplies - even home goods including a refrigerator, a washer and a stove, which she received from Hardee's, the fast-food chain. Still, Camelli tries to satisfy more than just her students' needs; students also respect Camelli for her emotional support.
For Camelli, this dedication (奉献) just comes with the job. "Teaching isn't just something you do in the classroom, " Camelli explains. " I think of my kids as my responsibility, and I would give the shirt off my back for my students," she says. Camelli is a community activist, a mental health advocate' (倡导者), and by many people's standards, she's most certainly a hero, but she doesn't see herself that way. She just thinks of herself as a teacher.
21. Why did Gina Camelli organize Paw Pantry?
A. To deal with increasing food quality issues.
B. To help students survive the economic problem.
C. To provide practical guidance on students' learning.
D. To satisfy the students' basic and emotional needs.
22. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. Camelli's purpose was to be a hero.
B. Camelli both studied and worked in Warren.
C. Both teachers and students can get goods from Paw Pantry.
D. Hardee's even donated home goods including food, clothing and school supplies.
23. How do the poor students and their parents get their necessities?
A. By writing to Gina Camelli.
B. By telephoning Gina Camelli.
C. By visiting the district's website.
D. By paying a visit to Gina Camelli,
24. What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean?
A. Gina Camelli will teach her students in a new way.
B. Gina Camelli is willing to try her best to help her students.
C. Gina Camelli supplies her students with clothes to keep warm.
D. Gina Camelli hopes to change her students' lives through education.

Members of an elephant herd making a 500 -kilometer trip through southwestern China have
become international stars. The 15 -member herd was already receiving wide attention in China. But now, the group's long trip is being documented by major media companies and on social media.
The elephants are traveling from their home, in a mountainous area of Yunnan Province, toward the city of Kunming. YouTube and Twitter are full of videos showing interesting behavior of the animals as they continue their path across farmland, villages and around cities.
The elephants are being followed by the public seeking to prevent more damage from the animals and to keep them and people safe. While no animals or people have been hurt during the trip, media reports have expected crop damage to be more than million. The elephants have broken into farms looking for food and water, visited a car service center and even showed up at a retirement home. At the home, some elephants tried to visit rooms, leading one man to hide under his bed.
Sixteen animals started out in the group. But the government says two returned home and a baby was born during the walk. Officials in China say they are not sure exactly what persuaded the elephants to make their long trip. They do, however, seem to be drawn to corn, fruits and other tasty crops they find along the way. Some experts say the elephants might have left because their leader might have gotten lost. Asian elephants are loyal (忠诚的) to their home areas unless there are major changes to the environment, a loss of resources (资源) or development, said Nilanga Jayasinghe, of the World Wildlife Fund. "In this case, we don't really know why they left their home," she told The Associated Press. She added that the area where they lived had seen major "habitat (栖息地) loss " linked to agriculture expansion (扩张). " What possibly happened here is that in their search for a new habitat, they got lost along the way and kept going," Jayasinghe added.
Elephants are given the top level of protection in China. This permits their numbers to continually increase even as their natural habitat becomes smaller.
25. Why does the elephant herd become worldwide focused?
A. Because it has caused local villagers a huge loss.
B. Because it makes a journey far away from its home.
C. Because it travels to the mountainous area of Yunnan.
D. Because the media are filming Asian elephants' behavior.
- According to Nilanga Jayasinghe, what might have caused the elephants to make the long trip?
A. The elephants' leader has gotten lost.
B. The elephants' food has become shortage.
C.The elephants' habitat got lost because of agriculture expansion.
D. The elephants are drawn to corn, fruits and other tasty crops along the way.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Asian Elephants Are Traveling South
B. Asian Elephants Are Loyal to Their Home
C. China's Traveling Elephants Become International Stars
D. Chinese Officials Are Trying to Save the Traveling Elephants
C
"It is difficult to change a bad first impression, but not impossible. Don't try to force new
relationships. Let relationships develop naturally, and don't do things just to make people like you. Be yourself," Huhman advises. If you watched in the 1980 s, you probably remember the Head & Shoulders advertisement warning, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression."
Now new research suggests that this isn't totally true, though the news isn't good for anyone who is trying to improve perceptions (看法).
For a paper called "The Tipping (转变) Point of Moral Change: When Do Good and Bad Acts Make Good and Bad Actors?" published in Social Cognition, Nadav Klein and Ed O'Brien, psychological scientists at the University of Chicago ran several experiments designed to discover how quickly people are willing to change impressions.
In one online study of 201 participants (参与者), an office worker known as "Barbara" started off neutrally (无明显特征地), but occasionally took a series of positive or negative actions. Sometimes she held doors for people. Other times she would cut in line. Participants answered how long such behavior had to go on for their perception of Barbara to tip in various directions.
The result? Barbara had to do nice things for more weeks to become regarded as a good person than the number of weeks she had to do bad things to become bad. Another online experiment including 200 female participants also found that people were quick to judge when Barbara was doing wrong and much slower to believe she'd changed for the better. "People only need to take just a few bad actions to appear greatly changed for the worse, but need to take many good actions to appear greatly changed for the better," the authors write.
If you've made a good first impression on a group of people, don't get too comfortable. Do something bad, and they'll quickly change their impression for the worse. But if you made a bad first impression, then the Head & Shoulders advertisement is onto something because, as Heather Huhman, president of Come Recommended, puts it, "People are always quick to judge, and we like our opinions-we don't like to change our minds."
28. What did the Head & Shoulders advertisement show?
A. First impressions are lasting long.
B. First impressions are not powerful .
C. First impressions can work wonders.
D. First impressions are the most natural.
29. What are the findings of the studies?
A. People are quick to judge.
B. It takes less time to become good.
C. People always focus on bad actions.
D. It's harder to change bad impressions.
30. What's Huhman's advice?
A. To be the real you.
B. To make people like you.
C. To develop friendship.
D. To take no notice of people's judgement.

Choosing a place to go when you have the opportunity to travel can sometimes be challenging. However, you can easily narrow your choices down with a thoughtful way.
Consider your interest first. Brainstorm others that you would like to try and narrow down your destination choices by knowing exactly what you expect to be there waiting for you. Such activities could include physical pastimes, like hiking, swimming, or cultural activities, such as visiting musicians and going to theaters.
32 Consult online and printed publications to find places offering the experiences that you are seeking and that can accommodate the group you're traveling with (or just you). Use tourism websites, travel blogs, and travel guides to gain an idea of what is out there.
Determine your budget (预算). Figure out exactly how much you can afford, so that you aren't breaking the bank for this trip. 33 Come up with a list of items that you expect to buy while traveling. With this information, you can narrow your list of preferred destinations down even further. Now that you have a certain budget, figure out how long it has to last you and determine how many days you will spend. 34 Besides, the number can also help to calculate more exactly how much money you are going to spend.
Compare and make the final decision. If you've narrowed your list to a couple of choices, compare the two. Apply the same criteria and find out if one seems more enjoyable. If your final choices still seem equally attracting after comparison, forget the checklist. Clear your mind, and give yourself some time. Wait to see which destination you find yourself dreaming about more.
A. Research travel destinations.
