I volunteer with Meals on Wheels every Friday. A week ago, I had the pleasure of helping one of my customers (顾客). She is over eighty years old and is very weak and I always bring her lunch on Fridays. She looked worried when she opened the door that day. She told me her phone was broken and that she couldn’t receive the calls from her doctor. She went to her neighbors, but they weren't at home. She thought the postman might help her, but he didn't come. She was disappointed(失望的).

Hearing her story, I decided to do something for her. I tried to exceed the needs of the old woman who only needed a helping hand. I called the phone company (公司) at once and made sure they knew that getting this phone fixed was needed right away. I wrote down her phone number and her name just to make sure I could call her later to make sure that the phone had been all right.

I called the phone company twice that day. They told me they had checked the phone line and made the phone work well. The old woman was so thankful that she was in tears, hugging me for my help. After that, I called her every day to make sure she was all right.

Just being able to help her in her time of danger filled my heart with such love and happiness. It doesn’t take much time or effort to help someone like a neighbor. Sometimes, what people need is just a smile, a hug or a phone call.

27What problem did the woman have?

AShe had a serious illness. BHer house was broken into. CHer phone wasn’t working.

28What does the underlined word “exceed” mean in Chinese?

    A.降低 B.超出 C.拒绝.

29By calling the old woman every day, the writer wanted to________.

    Amake sure she was fine

Bmake sure her phone was OK

    Ctell her about possible dangers

30What can we learn about the old woman?

    AShe often helps other people.

BShe is nearly eighty years old.

CShe always orders lunch on Fridays.

31What does the writer want to tell us?

AA friend in need is a friend indeed.

BIt's hard to make a difference at work.

CWe should be friendly and kind to those in need.

    C

When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, “Well, it’s so-and-so’s mistake.” Or “I know I’m late, but isn’t my mistake; the bus was late.” It is probably not your mistake, but once you form the habit of blaming(责备) somebody or something else for a bad situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop paying attention to whom to blame and start paying attention to how to improve the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.

Winners are great at overcoming (克服) problems. For example, if you were late because the bus was late, maybe you need to leave home early. Or, you might call a taxi or call friends for help when in need. For another example, if your workmate causes you problems on the job for short of responsibility (责任心) or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or leave this person with some simple jobs. You should accept that the person is not reliable (可靠的) and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of(不管) how your workmate fails to do his job well.

This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and chances to develop their own talents. So, stop paying attention to “ whose mistake it is. ” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.

32According to the passage, winners _________.

    Ablame themselves rather than others

    Bhave responsible and able workmates

Cmeet with fewer difficulties in their lives

Ddeal with problems rather than blame others

33When your workmate brings about a problem, you should _________.

Afind a better way to overcome the problem

Btell him to find the cause of the problem

Cblame him for his lack of responsibility

Dask a more able workmate for help

34When problems happen, winners take them as _________.

    Aexcuses for their mistakes

    Bdifficulties to greater power

Cchances to develop their own talents

    Dchallenges to their workmates

35Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

    AA Winner’s Secret

    BA Winner’s Problem

    CA Winner’s Chance

    DA Winner’s Achievement

    D

    Atomatoes are in different colors

    Btomatoes grew in Europe first

CFrench people first planted tomatoes for food

    Dtomatoes are harmful to people

37The underlined phrase “some of them” in Paragraph 3 refers to________.

    Asome people in America

    Bsome people in France

    Csome people in Italy

    Dsome people in Spain

38Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?

    A B C D

    Dear Harry,

I'm glad to hear from you and know that you can bake pizza now. I hope to learn to play the piano this summer holiday.

Studies show that playing the piano improves mental health. People who often play the piano tend to go through less anxiety and depression. I plan to learn from Steven, who is a famous piano teacher in Fuzhou. I believe I'll make great progress if I spend 2 hours practicing the piano every day.

    Best wishes.

    Yours,

    Li Hua
