Hua Sheng and Lu Sheng, a retired Tibetan cuple, have becme trailblazers (开拓者) f grape grwing and winemaking in their ld ages.
Lu Sheng learned grape planting and winemaking frm her grandmther’s sister. Since they retired, the cuple have mved t Lhasa frm the village f Yakhadi. Thugh the fact that the regin’s capital, which is 3,600 meters abve sea level, is cnsidered unfit fr grwing grapes, Lu Sheng and Hua Sheng began an ambitius prject in 2015, planting grapes in Tsalna, a twn in the suburb f Lhasa.

“Lhasa is an ideal place fr planting French grape varieties that are resistant t cld, drught and disease, and adaptable t high-altitude and pen-air planting,” Lu Sheng said.
“Thanks t the plateau’s sunshine and rganic planting, ur grapes grw very well here in Lhasa. The grapes are a bit sur and sweet, and they have a high anthcyanin (花青素) cntent,” she said. Anthcyanins, which accumulate (积累) in grape cells and cntribute rich clr t wine, are water-sluble（水溶性的）.
