高考题型组合练Ⅰ.阅读理解A36-year-old Juan Dual likes to joke that he’s empty inside.Juan’s story began when he was only 13.It was then that he was diagnosed with a terrible disease, which left him with a 99.8% chance of developing cancer of the digestive system. At age 19,right after finishing high-school,Juan underwent a tough operation to take away his colon and rectum.Sadly,it was only the beginning.By age 28,Juan’s disease had affected his stomach and gallbladder so he had to go under the knife again.Having just recovered from several serious operations,Juan Dual decided to accept the invitation of some friends of his parents and travel to Japan. It was there that things started to change for the better. He didn’t speak a word of Japanese,so he spent most of his time walking his dog.One day,the dog pulled harder, and Juan realized that he was still able to jog,and he started to do just that.Months later,he found himself working in a small, peaceful town in England. There was little in terms of entertainment, but the town was surrounded by hills,so he devoted even more of his time to running. He befriended some like-minded folks and told them what he’d been through, and they seemed amazed at the fact that he was still alive, let alone that he was pushing himself to exercise. That’s when the idea of focusing on motivating others took root in his mind. With the help of Pepa,a nutritionist,Juan Dual slowly relearned how to eat to keep his energy level high enough to sustain him during physical activity.Eight months after his last operation,he finished the Barcelona half marathon in two hours. He then started training for mountain running and ultra-marathons. 1.Why does Juan Dual say he is such a stressful day.I got two job offers and I don’t know what to do.”This is a typical example of humblebragging,a term coined by comedic writer Harris Wittels referring to “a specific type of boast that allows the offender to broadcast their achievements without the necessary shame and guilt that should normally accompany such claims”.In simpler terms,it’s a way to disguise a boast with some humility.Humblebragging comes in two different forms. The first is humility-based,an example being,“I can’t believe I got the highest grade in my class.”The second type comes mixed with a bit of complaint, for example,“I can’t believe that shopkeeper asked me for ID.I’m 25!”People don’t like it when others humblebrag because they find they are lacking in sincerity.Sincerity is a critical dimension of social evaluation, which is viewed as fundamental to people’s identity. In fact, sincerity is prized even above competence and warmth in others, according to Dr Sezer. If humblebragging doesn’t work, and no one likes it,why do we still do it?We all want to highlight our positive qualities without seeming proud.By speaking in a complaint or an expression of humility,we hope we’ll somehow land on the “sweet spot” of self-presentation:promoting ourselves while also conveying likability. In addition, research suggests that people may experience positive emotions while humblebragging.Considering that we’re all likely to feel the urge to humblebrag,at least to some extent, the proper response when we hear a friend doing it may be to simply let it go—because ultimately we’re going to do it ourselves, and to be who really want to be called out on it.语篇解读 这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了一种人们在日常交流中会用到的说话方式:以看似谦虚的方式或用苦恼的口吻自吹自擂,即网络上流行的“凡尔赛”文学。 5.Which of the following remarks is an
