Is your child looking for his/her perfect summer camp? Here are three of the best ones from around the United States.
    Camp Mondamin
Since 1922, this overnight summer camp in North Carolina has paid special attention to horseback riding, sailing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and tennis. In addition to teaching community living skills and respect for the environment, plenty of wilderness trips are offered with the goal to build self-respect. There won’t be much competition or any cups or medals. The organizers believe effort and reward are related, and that the reward is sweeter when it is earned.
    Extreme Action
From the minute kids arrive under the expert supervision (监督) of the highly trained staff, they will experience some of the most thrilling, action-packed, dirt-filled and high-speed activities offered in summer camps. Whether experiencing its high rope courses, rock wall climbing, racing mini-bikes or playing paintball on over 10 acres of fields, excitement is non-stop. For kids who have strong determination and the need for constant adventure, Extreme Action is where they belong.

Eleven years ago, Michael J. Baines moved from his home in Sweden to Chonburi in northern Thailand. Michael is a chef, but he quickly learned that the stray dogs(流浪犬) and cats in his new town needed to be fed even more than the human residents. He simply couldn't stand by and watch dozens of abandoned animals starve on the streets. “I feel sad for homeless dogs and want to help them all,” he said. “Especially when I see a lonely dog that does not belong to any pack, probably dumped, which is very common here. I always have food and fresh water in my car, so whenever I see a dog, I stop and give it food and water.”
Over the course of five years,Michael began feeding about 80 stray dogs each and every day. He quickly became known as “the man that feeds dogs,” as he provided sick, malnourished(营养不良的) animals with food, water, and medical care. He paid for all of this out of his own pocket, spending upwards of $ 1,500 a month and finding homes for 30- 40 dogs!
Eventually, The Man That Rescues Dogs became a nonprofit(非盈利) organization, and was run entirely through donations and volunteers. Over a decade later, Michael has rescued more than 2, 000 dogs! Many of these animals were badly injured and left for dead, so his team nursed them back to health. The shelter currently has 30 people on staff as well as an army of volunteers, and they’re all dedicated to saving as many abandoned animals as they can. They currently care for about 600 dogs every day, specializing in paralyzed or disabled dogs who require wheelchairs or walkers to get around.
The pictures that the shelter shares on social media are breathtaking. So many of these animals were found broken, yet Michael and his team managed to turn them into healthy, happy little ones ready to start their new life in a forever home!
4.What did Michael do when seeing homeless dogs?
A.He turned to residents for help. B.He stood by and watched them.
C.He fed them with food and water. D.He drove them home to get food and water.
5.What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.Michael became famous because of his kindness.
B.Michael took some sick and weak dogs home.
C.Michael spent all his savings to rescue the dogs.
D.Michael had to give up his work to feed stray dogs.
6.How did Michael expand the rescue of stray dogs?
    A.By creating a partnership system.
    B.By appealing to the government.
C.By setting up a public organization.
D.By inviting local residents to participate in it.
7.What can we learn from the passage?
A.There was a shortage of funds for running Michael's shelter.
B.The reports on social media attracted the public attention.
C.Michael gave stray animals a second chance to enjoy life.
D.Volunteers often dealt with something unexpected in the shelter.
    【答案】4-7 CACC
根据第一段“whenever I see a dog, I stop and give it food and water.”
根据第二段“He quickly became known as “the man that feeds dogs,” as he provided sick, malnourished(营养不良的) animals with food, water, and medical care.”
根据第三段“Eventually, The Man That Rescues Dogs became a nonprofit(非盈利) organization, and was run entirely through donations and volunteers. Over a decade later, Michael has rescued more than 2, 000 dogs!”
根据最后一段“So many of these animals were found broken, yet Michael and his team managed to turn them into healthy, happy little ones ready to start their new life in a forever home !”

As a classic love movie of the twentieth century, Titanic makes one scene a long-lasting cinematic shot: Jack let go of his hand and sank in the icy seawater, leaving the chance of living to his lover Rose, who finally survived on a wooden door debris (残骸).
More than 100 years since the disastrous event and more than two decades after the earliest release of the movie Titanic, there have been many “door theories”. Audiences debate heatedly over whether or not Jack and Rose could have both fit onto the wooden debris and survived. So, was there room for Jack?
In a TV program, hosts Jamie and Adam even did an experiment using an exact replica (复制品) of the wooden piece from the movie, and the two proved that if they had tied Rose’s life jacket to the bottom of the door to strengthen its buoyancy (浮力), they would have managed to stay afloat.
However, their conclusion was debunked when director Cameron said that the freezing water and Jack’s high temperature would have made the life jacket solution impossible. He also said that the debate is beyond the point the movie was trying to make, which is focused on the tragic love story of Jack and Rose, not physics.
The largest debris recovered from the real Titanic is now displayed in the Maritime Museum. The museum’s website states that a replica was once built for the movie based on the museum’s Titanic collection which was known as the “door” used in the death scene. Unfortunately, the size of the debris coupled with the weight of Rose on top could work, but not if Jack’s additional weight was added to it.
In a word, science has proven that Jack didn’t die for nothing and did indeed sacrifice himself to save the love of his life.
8.What’s the purpose of paragraph 1?
    A.To lead into the topic.
    B.To introduce a movie.
    C.To raise a question.
    D.To highlight characters.
9.What is the conclusion of Jamie and Adam based on?
    A.The development of the plot.
    B.A physics experiment.
    C.The theme of the movie.
    D.A heated debate.
10.What does the underlined word “debunked” in paragraph 4 mean?
    A.Confirmed. B.Opposed. C.Approved. D.Concerned.
11.We can infer that the movie’s ending is .
    A.unrealistic B.confusing C.reasonable D.surprising
    【答案】8-11 ABBC
根据文章第一段“As a classic love movie of the twentieth century, Titanic makes one scene a long-lasting cinematic shot: Jack let go of his hand and sank in the icy seawater, leaving the chance of living to his lover Rose, who finally survived on a wooden door debris (残骸). ”《泰坦尼克号》是一部20世纪的经典爱情电影,其中的一个场景是一个持久的电影镜头:杰克松开手,沉入冰冷的海水中,给他的爱人罗斯留下了生存的机会,罗斯最终在木门残骸上幸存下来。及下文对此场景的讨论可推断,本段的目的是引出话题。故选A。
根据划线词后半句“when director Cameron said that the freezing water and Jack’s high temperature would have made the life jacket solution impossible.”
根据文章倒数第二段“Unfortunately, the size of the debris coupled with the weight of Rose on top could work, but not if Jack’s additional weight was added to it. (不幸的是,碎片的大小加上罗斯在上面的重量可能会起作用,但如果加上杰克的额外重量就不行了。)”可推断,这部电影的结局合理的。故选C。
    D
It seems we can’t get off the planet fast enough. Two thirds of NASA’s money is spent on manned space exploration, and that number will grow with the USA’s decision to send a man to Mars in 2037. We’ve seen all there is to see on Earth, right? Wrong. The final place is here, under the surface of the sea.
Heading down into the ocean, human limits are quickly reached. At 200 metres, the water is as black as a moonless night. Most nuclear submarines (核潜艇) would implode (内爆) before they reach 1 km down. At 3 km — still less than the average depth of the ocean — there’s a good chance that you’ll discover a new species. The deepestdiving whales go no further. At the very bottom, about 11 km down, lies the Challenger Deep, the deepest part of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. Eighteen humans have walked on the Moon, but only three have seen the Deep with their own eyes.
Yet things live down there. Big things. A very loud sound was once heard and scientists suggested that it was produced by an animal bigger than a blue whale, the largest creature known on the planet.
In the late 1990s, a deepwater submarine was dropped in the Southern Ocean, and passing 4,000 metres, it discovered something huge passing under it. Surprised? Don’t be. The ocean covers 70% of the planet’s surface and we’ve studied less than 5% of it. We know more about the dark side of the Moon than about the bottom of the sea.
One reason that we explore space is to find evidence of other life forms. The search for life outside of Earth is important, but robots can look under the dry rocks of Mars better than humans. They’re absolutely important for doing ocean research too, but they can’t look under the sea. The cost of exploration is rising, but the results would benefit all our lives. Understanding the oceans will help us find new sources of food, drugs and energy.
Perhaps now it's time to begin a new period of sea exploration. Manned exploration of space is science fiction The adventure of the deep sea is science fact.
12.What do the examples in Paragraph 2 suggest?
A.Sea exploration is no easy task.
B.Nuclear submarines need to be improved.
C.The ocean is far deeper than people expected.
D.The condition under the sea is similar to that on the Moon.
13.What do we know about the Challenger Deep?
    A.Blue whales live there.
B.No one has ever been there.
C.People are terrified by the sight of it.
D.It is the deepest known location on Earth.
14.What does the author think of the discovery in the Southern Ocean?
    A.It’s surprising. B.It’s no wonder.
    C.It’s worrying. D.It’s no success.
15.What does the author want to tell us?
A.Space exploration is of little value.
B.We spend too much money on space travel.
C.Humans’ success lies in how much they explore the sea.
D.The ocean is the place where we should make our efforts.
    【答案】12-15 ADBD
Eighteen humans have walked on the Moon, but only three have seen the Deep with their own eyes. 故选A项。
At the very bottom, about 11 km down, lies the Challenger Deep, the deepest part of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean.可知,the Challenger Deep位于海底大概11公里的位置,是the Mariana Trench最深的部分。
由第四段it discovered something huge passing under it. Surprised? Don’t be. The ocean covers 70% of the planet’s surface and we’ve studied less than 5% of it. We know more about the dark side of the Moon than about the bottom of the sea.

Some years back, nobody paid much attention to the waste in homes and landfills(垃圾填埋场). It became so vast that the government started getting concerned the phenomenon could create a disaster. A solution had to be found, one that is kind to humans and the environment. 16 Below are the reasons why we need to recycle.
    Conserve natural resources.
17 If a lot of pressure is put on these natural resources, they might be run out of fast. The only way to stop the pressure applied to these resources is recycling. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, recycling one ton of paper saves up about 17 trees as well as 7 tons of water.
    Reduce carbon emissions(碳排放).
Recycling greatly reduces carbon emissions, commonly referred to as greenhouse gases. 18 Whatever your opinion on global warming is, a lot of people agree to the idea that everyone needs to play a role in minimizing the effects of emissions.
    19
Recycling has been proved to save up lots of energy. Companies that use recycled aluminum(铝) save up to 95% energy during production of aluminum products when compared to companies that source raw materials.
One person makes a big difference.
Most people believe that one person cannot make any difference in regard to recycling waste. That thinking might apply in other fields. 20 Averagely, every American produces about 1,600 pounds of waste every year. Up to 1,100 pounds of waste is able to be recycled every year per person. That represents half a ton per individual.
    A. Save energy.
    B. Protect the environment.
    C. That’s how recycling was born.
    D. Many kinds of resources are considered limited.
    E. You and your neighbor’s effort to recycle will mean clean surrounding air.
    F. However, in recycling, an individual’s contribution counts.
    G. If wastes were not recycled, they would end up being burned, giving out greenhouse gases.
    【答案】16-20 CDGAF
17.下文说明了自然资源是有限的,呼应D选项(许多种类的资源被认为是有限的),且句中these natural resources与D项中Many kinds of resources为同一事物;故选D项。
故选A项。

    Dear Eric,
Thank you for writing to me! Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years, and doctors use various practices together with herbal medicine to address health problems. For instance, acupuncture can be used to treat pain and improve overall wellness by inserting thin needles into our body. You can get more information online.
In the most recent battle against COVID-19, TCM has proved its effectiveness in boosting people's immune system, relieving disease symptoms and preventing mild symptoms from getting worse. Overall, it helped to reduce death rate and improved patients' chances of recovery.
Best wishes to your family and take care of yourself!
    Yours,

Kusa, a 10-year-old boy, has looked out for his big sister, 12-year-old Pahnuly, for as long as he can remember. At school, he helps her unpack her things at her locker. At home, they read together, play games and practice counting.
Pahnuly has autism (自闭症). People with autism often have trouble talking with others. They might repeat things over and over, or be interested in only one subject. But it was Pahnuly that inspired Kusa to think differently. One day, they played ping-pong with their parents at home in Brooklyn Park. But Pahnuly struggled with it. So Kusa wanted to find a way to make it more suited to his sister’s needs. He came up with a new game based on ping-pong. It is called Aeropong because the ball seems to float in the air. In Aeropong, a ping-pong ball hangs from a frame. The players hit the ball back and forth. It’s kind of like tennis, but no one has to chase the ball.
At first, Pahnuly didn’t show much interest. But soon, Kusa heard a sound coming from the front room. Clack. Clack. Clack. Pahnuly had picked up a paddle (乒乓球拍) and was tapping the ball. Then, she started hitting it back and forth with Kusa and their dad. Eventually, the family took a trip to Menards to buy some PVC pipes and fashioned a portable frame for the ball to hang from. They also designed rules and ways to score points.
Word spread at school about Kusa’s game. His teacher, Stasica, asked him to tell his class about Aeropong. Kusa was usually shy, but when he talked about his game, his face lit up with excitement, Stasica said. Kusa told his classmates the game was meant to make people smile, especially his big sister. “When she scores,” he said, “she dances.”

Aeropong has become an essential family activity in Kusa’s home.

Widely spreading on the Internet, Kusa’s game got attention across the country.

    Paragraph 1:
Aeropong has become an essential family activity in Kusa’s home. The family all play the game wearing T-shirts with the game’s name on them. Pahnuly watches the online clips nearly every day. She was celebrating a win at Aeropong over her dad. She waved her pink cat paddle in the air. Cats are Pahnuly’s favorite animals.
    Paragraph 2:
Widely spreading on the Internet, Kusa’s game got attention across the country. It soon gained great popularity. Meanwhile, a toy company decided to produce Aeropong on an industrial scale. Now, he dreams of becoming a "creator and businessman". He said his big sister has already inspired him to create other inventions.
