(The small town of Rjukan in Norway is situated between several mountains and does not get direct sunlight from late September to mid-March— 41 six months out of the year.)。
Passage 1 [2019·全国Ⅰ]Every year about 40,000 people attempt to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. They 41 with them lots of waste. The 42 might damage the beauty of the place. The glaciers (冰川) are disappearing, changing the 43 of Kilimanjaro.  Hearing these stories, I'm 44 about the place—other destinations are described as “purer” natural experiences.

The environmental challenges are 48 but the efforts made by the Tanzania National Park Authority seem to be 49 . The best of a Kilimanjaro 50 , in my opinion, isn't reaching the top. Mountains are 51 as spiritual places by many cultures. This 52 is especially evident on Kilimanjaro as 53 go through five ecosystems

Further up, the weather 55 —low clouds envelope the mountainsides, which are covered with thick grass. I 56 twelve shades of green from where I stand.Above 4,000 meters is the highland 57 : gravel(砾石), stones and rocks. 58 you climb into an arctic-like zone with 59 snow and the glaciers that may soon disappear.
Does Kilimanjaro 60 its reputation as a crowded mountain with lines of tourists ruining the atmosphere of peace?I found the opposite to be true.

[2018·全国Ⅰ]During my second year at the city college,I was told that the education department was offering a “free” course, called Thinking Chess, for three credits.I 41 the idea of taking the class because, after all,who doesn't want to 42 a few dollars?More than that, I'd always wanted to learn chess. And,even if I weren't 43 enough about free credits, news about our 44 was appealing enough to me. He was an international grandmaster, which 45 I would be learning from one of the game's 46 .I could hardly wait to 47 him.
Maurice Ashley was kind and smart, a former graduate returning to teach, and this 48 was no game for him;he meant business. In his introduction, he made it 49 that our credits would be hard-earned. In order to 50 the class, among other criteria, we had to write a paper on how we plan to 51 what we would learn in class to our future professions and, 52 ,to our lives. I managed to get an A in that 53 and learned life lessons that have served me well beyond the 54 .
Ten years after my chess class with Ashley, I'm still putting to use what he 55 me:“The absolute most important 56 that you learn when you play chess is how to make good 57 .On every single move you have to 58 a situation, process what your opponent(对手)is doing and 59 the best move from among all your options.” These words still ring true today in my 60 as a journalist.

空时,马上浏览一下选项,再结合第41空前的a “free” course以及这两个空后的宾语the idea of taking the class和a few dollars,可预判第41题A项(jumped at)、第42题C项(save)正确,即“欣然接受”课程和“省钱”。 I'd always wanted to learn chess可知,作者的心情应该是“兴奋的(excited)”,故预判B项正确。
对于后半句中的第51题,选项都是动词,再结合后面的介词to,以及句中的关键信息write a paper、 what we would learn in class、 future professions、 our lives可预判
读到第54空时,联系空前的learned life lessons that have served me well可知“我从学习国际象棋中学到了一些对我课堂之外的生活有用的知识”,故可预判B项(classroom)正确。
读完第56、57空后,浏览选项,结合句中的you learn when you play chess is how to make good可预判第56题C项(skill)、第57题B项(decisions)正确。
[2018·天津]No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own 1 .  I learned this lesson from a(n) 2 many years ago. I took the head 3 job at a school in Baxley, Georgia.

[2018·全国Ⅱ]I was thrilled! I arrived early at Byron Bay where we were supposed to meet. The bay was 45 in sunshine, and there was a group of kayakers around 150m off the shore. 45.A.bathed B.clean C.deep D.formed
    A be bathed in为固定搭配,表示“沐浴在······中”。
[2018·全国Ⅱ]Getting a little closer, I realized one kayak(皮划艇) was in trouble. “Something's not right!” I took off my T-shirt and 49 into the water. I saw there were two instructors on board and a man lying across the middle. He was shaking violently. Linking arms with one of the instructors, I helped 51 the young man out of the water. He was unconscious and as I looked at his face, something occurred to me. Those brown eyes were very
familiar. “What's his name?” I asked the instructor. “Ben,” he replied, and immediately I knew. That stranger was my son! 49.A.stared B.sank C.dived D.fell51.A.lead B.persuade C.carry D.keep
[2018·全国Ⅲ]Teresa posted a photo of the chance meeting on a social networking website accompanied by the touching words:“What a blessing this young man was to our family! He was so 59 and kind to do this.” 59.A.smart B.calm C.sweet D.fair
We went 10-1 and I was named most valuable player, 48 I often had crazy dreams in which I was to blame for Miller's accident. 48.A.and B.then C.but D.thus
[2018·全国Ⅱ]The instructors called for an ambulance. 55 , after a brief stay in hospital, Ben was well enough to be allowed to 56 and later the family met up for dinner. 55.A.Fortunately B.Frankly C.Sadly D.Suddenly56.A.return B.relax C.speak D.leave
55.A 根据下文中的after a brief stay in hospital,Ben was well enough可知,此处选A项。56.D 根据下文中的later the family met up for dinner可知,Ben被允许出院。
1.[2018·全国Ⅲ]When most of us get a text message on our cell phone from an unknown person, we usually say “sorry, wrong number!” and move on. But when Dennis Williams 42 a text that clearly wasn't intended for him, he did something special. 42.A.received B.translated C.copied D.printed
2.[2017·全国Ⅰ]While high school does not generally encourage students to explore new aspects of life, college sets the stage for that exploration. I myself went through this 41 process and found something that has changed my experience at college for the better: I discovered ASL—American Sign Language (美式手语). 41.A.searching B.planning C.natural D.formal
[2018·全国Ⅱ]Two weeks earlier, my son, Ben, had got in touch. He'd moved to England with his mum when he was three and it had been 13 years since I'd last seen him. So imagine my 42 when he emailed me saying he wanted to come to visit me. 42.A.delight B.relief C.anger D.worry
Hundreds of people have formed impressions of you through that little device(装置) on your desk. And they've never actually met you. Everything they know about you came through this device, sometimes from hundreds of miles away.
43 they feel they can know you just from the sound of your voice. That's how powerful the telephone is. 43.A.Thus B.Yet C.Then D.Indeed
[2018·全国Ⅲ]On March 19, Dennis got a group text informing him that a couple he didn't know were at the hospital, waiting for the 45 of a baby.
“Congratulations! But I think someone was mistaken,” Dennis responded. The baby was born and update texts were coming in quickly from the overjoyed grandmother, Teresa. 45.A.wake-up B.recovery C.growth D.arrival
Lainey finished third grade. She had good grades and could read above grade level, but she did not like to read. On a family car trip, her Aunt Dede pulled out a copy of Harry Potter, as a surprise for her niece. But Lainey took one look at it, rolled her eyes, and said, “Borrrring!”
Aunt Dede, a teacher, had read the book to her students, and they loved it. Even the youngest children in the class were attracted by the story. They listened with great interest, and then enthusiastically joined in grand conversations about Harry's adventures. “How can you say it's 48 ? Have you read it?” asked Aunt Dede. 48.A.amazing B.boring C.ridiculous D.humorous
    B 第48空是上文and said,“Borrrring!”
Powerful, yes, but not always 46 . For years I dealt with my travel agent only by phone. Rani, my faceless agent whom I'd never met in person, got me rock-bottom prices on airfares, cars, and hotels. But her cold voice really annoyed me. I sometimes wished to find another agent.  One morning, I had to book an immediate flight home for a family emergency. I ran into Rani's office for the first time. The woman sitting at the desk, seeing my madness,
sympathetically jumped up. She gave me a comforting smile, nodded while listening patiently, and then printed out the ticket immediately. “What a wonderful lady!” I thought. Rushing out gratefully I called out over my shoulder, “By the way, what's your name?” “I'm Rani,” she said. I turned around and saw a pleasant woman with a big smile on her face waving to wish me a safe trip. I was speechless! Why had I thought she was cold? Rani was, well, so nice.
Sitting back in the car on the way to the airport, I figured it all out. Rani's friendliness—her warm smile, her nods, her ‘I'm here for you’ attitude—were all silent signals that didn't travel through wires.46.A.direct B.useful C.easy D.accurate
Dario and his mother loved their new apartment. The living room was large enough for their piano. That night, the two of them sat side by side at the piano. They played jazz music to celebrate their new home. The loud music filled the room and made them feel very happy.
The next morning, 38 , their happiness disappeared. Someone had left a note under their door during the night. One of their neighbors had written to complain (抱怨) about the sound of the piano.Dario's mother asked the building superintendent (管理员) if he knew anything about it.But he said that they were all nice people and he couldn't imagine any of them had done
that.Later that morning, Dario suggested that they write a letter to their neighbors and apologize for their playing.38.A.therefore B.however C.otherwise D.instead
[2020·湖南长沙一中模拟]Most people say “I'm sorry” many times a day for a host of trivial (琐碎的) things. These apologies are easy and usually readily 1 , often with a response like, “No problem.” 2 , when “I'm sorry” are the words needed to right truly hurtful words or acts, they can be the hardest ones to 3 . And even when an apology is offered with the best of intentions, it can be seriously 4 by the way in which it is worded. A poorly
worded apology can 5 lasting anger and 6 an important relationship.  I admit to a lifetime of challenges when it comes to 7 , especially when I thought I was right or 8 . But I recently 9 that the need for an apology is less about me than the person who is 10 by something I said or did or failed to do. I also learned that a sincere apology can be extremely 11 for the recipient (接受者) as well as the 12 .  After learning that a neighbour seemed 13 due to my small errors, I wrote a 14 and apologized for my 15 .
I said I wasn't asking for 16 , merely hoping that we could have a harmonious 17 , and then delivered the letter with a jar of my homemade jam. Expecting nothing 18 , I was greatly relieved when my doorbell rang and the neighbour 19 me for what I had said and done. I felt as if I'd not only got rid of a(n) 20 but made a new friend, which is indeed how it played out in the days that followed.
    1.A.accepted B.found C.proved D.remembered2.A.Therefore B.Otherwise C.However D.Besides3.A.say B.gain C.forget D.control4.A.described B.weakened C.recorded D.trusted5.A.depend on B.look on C.take in D.result in

13.D 根据该空后的due to my small errors以及apologized for的语境暗示可知,邻居因作者的一些小错误而感到恼火。

[2018·全国Ⅰ]During my second year at the city college, I was told that the education department was offering a “free” course, called Thinking Chess, for three credits. I jumped at the idea of taking the class because, after all, who doesn't want to save a few dollars?... Maurice Ashley was kind and smart, a former graduate returning to teach, and this job was no game for him; he meant business. In his introduction, he made it clear that our credits
would be hard-earned. In order to pass the class, among other criteria, we had to write a paper on how we plan to apply what we would learn in class to our future professions and, eventually, to our lives. I managed to get an A in that 53 and learned life lessons that have served me well beyond the classroom. 53.A.game B.presentation C.course D.experiment
第1段was offering a “free” course中的course是第53空的原词复现,故选C项。
[2018·天津]I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. Most important, I began to treat them like winners. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacations, we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football. ... From the experience I learned a lot about how the attitude of the leader can affect the members of a team.
Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves 35 , and they built themselves into winners.35.A.honestly B.individually C.calmly D.differently
Instead of seeing my boys as losers以及上文中的treat them like winners可知,此处是指“我帮他们用不同的方式看待自己”。
1.[2018·全国Ⅲ]Much to the family's surprise, Dennis stuck to his promise! He turned up at the hospital 53 gifts for the new mother Lindsey and her baby boy. Lindsey's husband was totally astonished by the unexpected visit. “I don't think we would have randomly invited him over but we appreciate it and the gifts.” 53.A.bearing B.collecting C.opening D.making
2.[2018·浙江]One day I met a former classmate of mine who was making a lot of money running a sideline (副业). Since his regular job was boring, I asked him why he just didn't do his sideline fulltime. He said without the job, he would 49 have too much time and would just do what I did back in college. He said that if he quit the job, he would lose his drive to work and succeed. 49.A.luckily B.hardly C.hopefully D.simply

但在“He stopped his car to wait at the red light.”
