When an editr called t ask if I culd phtgraph a stry abut fireflies in Mexic. I didn’t check my schedule befre I said yes. I’d seen these insects light up the frests in Tlaxcala nce befre, and I jumped at the chance t g back.
While studying, I began explring Mexic, crssing the cuntry several times by bus. Nw I wrk as a phtjurnalist in Mexic and alng the brder, dcumenting desperate situatins that face everyday Mexicans. Thugh necessary and imprtant, news stries dn’t reflect the Mexic that I fell fr and that is hme t s many peple I lve. A task fcused n the cuntry’s natural beauty was a welcme reprieve fr me.
I had three nights t film the magical scene in the frest. Accrding t ur guides, visitrs are usually nt allwed t phtgraph the fireflies because the presence f artificial light frm electrnics can affect their habits. As I started shting, I adjusted my expsures cnstantly t accunt fr the fading light. In rder t get the cmpsitin that I wanted, I placed my tripd (三脚架) n a steep, rcky path and had t steady it during the lng expsures. Nrmally this wuldn’t be a big deal, but the fireflies were very interested in the camera and, by extensin, in me. I std cmpletely still while they were all ver me-my arms, my hair, my face. Frm what I bserved, peak (高峰时期的) firefly presence lasts fr nly abut 20 minutes each night, s I had time fr just a few tries.
On the last night everything came tgether. The weather cperated. I had imprved my methd fr fcusing and cmpsing phts in the dark with quick flashes frm a pwerful flashlight—and I’d grwn accustmed t insects n my face.
I was rewarded with the image yu see here. Each dt f light is ne f several bursts that a firefly makes as it travels within a 30-secnd expsure. Yu can track the insects’ paths: Sme make small circles, like thse in the bttm center f the frame, while thers mve steadily in ne directin r anther.

    C. Cmmunicate cnstantly with the guides.

Fr many f us, summertime means rad trips t the beach r muntains, r at the very least sme additinal dust n the utside f ur vehicle. The extra dirt leads us t d ne f tw things: wash ur car in the driveway r head t the car wash. But which chice is better fr the envirnment?

But even fllwing this piece f advice cmes with an envirnmental risk: Washing yur car in the driveway gets the dirty water int drains (下水道).
“Drains are nt made fr treating waste.” says Jhn Schmbert, executive directr f 3 Rivers Wet Weather. Even when car wners use natural saps t wash their car, Schmbert says they are prbably ineffective in breaking dwn grease(油脂) anyway.
The cmmercial car wash knws full well the rules regarding wastewater in drains. Accrding t the Internatinal Carwash Assciatin (ICA), prfessinal car washes must use special water treatment systems. These prcesses nt nly keep the dirty water ut f drains and regular water treatment systems, but als wrk t reduce water usage at cmmercial facilities.

    A. Disapprving.B. Favrable.C. Indifferent.D. Objective.
    10. What is the furth paragraph mainly abut?
    A. Rules f handling wastewater.B. Advantages f prfessinal car washes.
    C. Prcesses f getting rid f dirty water.D. Drawbacks f water treatment systems.

    A. The full-service car washes.B. Car washing in the driveway.
    C. The self-service car washes.D. Car washing using natural saps.

Girl with a Pearl Earring has been part f the Mauritshuis’ cllectin in the Hague since 1902 and is still n display at the museum. This type f artwrk ften prtrays (描绘) characters rather than actual peple. It is interesting t nte that the painting was knwn as Girl with Turban r simply Yung Girl fr mst f its existence and nly received its current name less than a century ag. While it is impssible t identify Vermeer’s mdel, due t a cmplete lack f evidence, he may have asked ne f his seven daughters t sit fr the painting.
    12. What d we learn abut Jhannes Vermeer when he was alive?
    A. He lived a very hard life.B. He wasn’t a gifted artist.
    C. He liked writing abut himself.D. He wasn’t much knwn ut f his city.
    13. What made sme schlars regard Girl with a Pearl Earring as a wrk f Trnic?
    A. The girl’s special expressin.B. The girl’s unusual dressing.
    C. The mdel’s unclear gesture.D. The mdel’s backgrund painting.
    14. What can we knw abut the painting frm the last paragraph?
    A. Its mdel remains mysterius.
    B. Its name is still cntrversial.
    C. It was severely damaged a century ag.

    hps by 1960.”
4.根据空前一句“But by 1980 the use f hula hps had begun rapidly fading.”

故填did。
故填a。
“it d sth.”
故填which/ that。
根据“The rbt was prgrammed t understand the basic methds fr the experiment”可知,此处应用一般过去时。 故填was given。
be based n/upn意为“根据”,为固定搭配。

故将where改为which。
“It be time (fr sb.) t d sth.”

故将They改为We。
“nt als...” 故将and改为but。
