Here is an interview between Noah Matt, a blogger and Dan, who has very low vision and is almost blind.
N: Hi Dan! Please let us know about yourself!
D: I'm 31 from Canada. At the age of seven, I was hurt in the back of the head by a boy, leaving me blind in my left eye. In 2008, my right eye started to go red and the doctor told me that it would also be blind later.
N: Where does your passion for travel come from?
D: Both of my parents are travel lovers and I am greatly influenced by them. What's more, besides my family, I travel for the people. I know people are curious about my travels and I love sharing my stories with them.
N: Being unable to see, you have to face many difficulties. How do you manage to overcome them? Do you always have someone with you?
D: My travel is nothing different from most other travellers', just slower. Usually help is available but I'm unwilling to accept it and I try my hardest to direct myself. For example, I use an iPhone to take a photo of the train times and then make it larger. Thus, I can move at my own pace.
N: What will be your next destination?
D: I don't know what my next destination will be after this trip in Europe is over. I'm really interested in Australia, New Zealand, and South America. But to tell you the truth, I think it's time for me to get around to explore my own country. It's really a pity that Canadians travel the world because traveling in our own country is so hard and expensive.

For example, I use an iPhone to take a photo of the train times and then make it larger. Olivia Ries was just seven years old when she and her eight-year-old brother Carter adopted a cheetah(猎豹) in South Africa.
“When my sister and I first learned back in 2009 that species like the cheetah may be extinct in the wild by the time we have kids, it scared us. We knew we had to do something to help them,” says Carter. “There are so many people(young and old alike) who just don't know what is happening to so many species, just like we didn't. Olivia and I want to make sure we reach as many people around the world as possible and help them to understand how serious the situation really is.”
To do that, the kids started One More Generation(OMG), an organization with the motto: “Preserving endangered species for one more generation and beyond.”
Now, ten years later, Olivia and Carter have traveled all over the world spreading their message. They've been interviewed on national television, participated in marches and fundraisers and won awards for their work. In 2015, they were invited to Vietnam by the United States Embassy to participate in a program to save rhinos. All that they've accomplished for animals and the environment is much too long to list!
“Our number one message to everyone we meet is 'Remember, anyone can make a difference... if we can, you can too,” says Olivia. “We want all people to understand that what Carter and I are doing is not necessarily something special; it is something that we all should be doing. You can start small by simply adopting an animal. Do some research on the species you are interested in, and find a good organization offering adoptions. My brother and I take our birthday money and allowance money and adopt animals all the time.”
    16. How did Olivia and Carter feel when learning cheetahs faced extinction?
    A. Angry and guilty. B. Shocked and concerned.
    C. Anxious and helpless. D. Hopeful and determined.
    17. What does the underlined “that” refer to in Paragraph 3?
    A. Helping endangered species survive.
    B. Telling people the situation cheetahs face.
    C. Making the situation of dying species known.
    D. Calling on people to adopt endangered species.
    18. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell about Olivia and Carter?
    A. They organized activities to raise money. B. They took measures to save rhinos.
    C. They made efforts to list extinct species. D. They contributed a lot to dying species.
    19. What do Olivia's words suggest?
    A. Anyone can help by starting small.
    B. Anyone can do something special.
    C. Anyone should do research on species.
    D. Anyone should donate to adoption organizations.
    20. If you're to offer Olivia a gift, which might she expect most?
    A. “Adopting a panda in name of both her and me.”
    B. “Making her a furry dog with my own hands.”
    C. “Buying her a doll of the latest style.”
    D. “Mailing her a handmade postcard.”

When my sister and I first learned back in 2009 that species like the cheetah may be extinct in the wild by the time we have kids, it scared us.(在2009年,当我和妹妹第一次了解到一些物种,例如猎豹,可能在我们有小孩时,它们会灭绝,我们很震惊)和Olivia and I want to make sure we reach as many people around the world as possible and help them to understand how serious the situation really is.(Olivia和我想确定我们可以让世界上尽可能多的人明白它们现在的处境相当糟糕)可知,当Olivia and Carter知道猎豹可能会灭绝时他们很震惊,也很担心,想要尽自己的量来帮助它们。B.
根据第二和第三段的“Olivia and I want to make sure we reach as many people around the world as possible and help them to understand how serious the situation really is.”,“To do that, the kids started One More Generation(OMG)”可知,Olivia和她的哥哥想确定他们可以让世界上尽可能多的人明白它们现在的处境相当糟糕。 C. Making the situation of dying species known.(让人们知道濒危动物的情况)符合以上说法,故选C项。
All that they've accomplished for animals and the environment is much too long to list!(他们为动物和环境所做的一切太多了,无法一一列举)可知,本段主要讲述了Olivia and Carter为濒危动物和环境做了很多事情。D. They contributed a lot to dying species.(他们为濒临灭绝的物种做出了很大贡献)符合以上说法,故选D项。

Do some research on the species you are interested in, and find a good organization offering adoptions.(你可以通过收养动物这样的小事开始。 A. Anyone can help by starting small.(任何人都可以通过做小事来帮忙濒危动物)符合以上推测,故选A项。
My brother and I take our birthday money and allowance money and adopt animals all the time. A. “Adopting a panda in name of both her and me.”(以她和我的名义收养一只熊猫)符合以上推测,故选A项。
    C
Suddenly, you wake up in the middle of the night with stomachache. It starts off as a dull pain, but then quickly heightens and seems to move down your body. So, you immediately jump on your computer or phone to search for various conditions you could be suffering from. Could it be a stomach virus, or worse still, stomach cancer?
If this sounds familiar, you may be suffering from cyberchondria. It's a hybrid term for cyberspace(网络空间) and hypochondria(now called “illness anxiety”), which refers to a state in which people are fearful of having a serious illness. A cyberchondriac is someone who searches the Internet excessively(过度地) for health information and rather than finding relief, diagnoses(诊断) himself or herself with a serious disease, and feels more anxious as a result.
Persons with low levels of illness anxiety can search for health information on the Internet and are more likely to discuss the information with their doctors and make a plan to address the problem. For cyberchondriacs, that's not the case. Their excessive searches tend to fuel unnecessary fear and anxiety and they often accept what they find online as fact without ever consulting a doctor.
Excessive online searching not only makes a person with high levels of illness anxiety more anxious, there are also other risks. A person might choose to self-treat an illness he/she doesn't have, taking medicines that may have side effects. What's more, much of the health information online is not complete. Even one search engine warns its users that medical-related data on the web is intended for informational purposes only and you should always consult a health care professional if you have a medical concern.
The bottom line is that the Internet is an invaluable resource for information, finding providers, making connections and more, but it should never replace the sound advice from a medically trained doctor.
    21. What does the author want to tell us in Paragraph 1?
    A. A social phenomenon in the Internet age.
    B. The great need for more professional doctors.
    C. A good way of seeking medical advice.
    D. The warning signs of serious stomachache.
    22. What do we know about cyberchondriacs?
    A. They get great relief from online health information.
    B. They are more likely to ask for help from their doctors.
    C. They live in anxiety for fear of developing serious diseases.
    D. They suffer from illness anxiety caused by excessive online searching.
    23. What does the underlined word “fuel” in Paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Stimulate. B. Control. C. Remove. D. Change.
    24. What might excessive online searching for health information result in?
    A. More detailed medical-related data.
    B. An increased risk of misdiagnosis.
    C. More chances of professional self-treat.
    D. A serious challenge to health care professionals.
    25. What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph?
    A. Stopping depending on the Internet.
    B. Being medically trained by doctors.
    C. Considering the Internet as an invaluable resource.
    D. Following professional advice instead of self-diagnosing.
21. A 22. D 23. A 24. B 25. D
根据第一段“Suddenly, you wake up in the middle of the night with stomachache. It starts off as a dull pain, but then quickly heightens and seems to move down your body. So, you immediately jump on your computer or phone to search for various conditions you could be suffering from. Could it be a stomach virus, or worse still, stomach cancer?(突然,你在半夜醒来时胃痛。它开始时是一种隐隐的痛,但随后迅速加剧,似乎在你的身体里乱动。因此,你立即扑向电脑或手机来搜索你可能患有的各种疾病。它可能是胃病毒,或者是更糟糕的胃癌?)”可知,第一段主要讲述人们不舒服时,第一时间不是去医院看病,而是上网搜索相关的病情案例。所以第一段指出互联网时代的社会现象,故选A。
    22. 细节理解题。根据第二段“A cyberchondriac is someone who searches the Internet excessively(过度地) for health information and rather than finding relief, diagnoses(诊断) himself or herself with a serious disease, and feels more anxious as a result.(上网自诊狂是指在互联网上过度搜索健康信息而不是找寻找救助的人,诊断自己患有严重疾病,并因此感到更加焦虑。)”
根据第三段“Persons with low levels of illness anxiety can search for health information on the Internet and are more likely to discuss the information with their doctors and make a plan to address the problem.
根据第四段“Excessive online searching not only makes a person with high levels of illness anxiety more anxious, there are also other risks. A person might choose to self-treat an illness he/she doesn't have, taking medicines that may have side effects. What's more, much of the health information online is not complete. Even one search engine warns its users that medical-related data on the web is intended for informational purposes only and you should always consult a health care professional if you have a medical concern.(过度的在线搜索不仅使疾病焦虑程度高的人更加焦虑,还有其他风险。

In 2010, a huge earthquake hit Haiti, causing the deaths of over a hundred thousand people and millions of dollars'worth of damage.___26___On this occasion, funds were raised with amazing speed—within a week of the quake, the American Red Cross had raised $22 million. The reason? People were donating via their mobile phones.
___27___ Gone are the days when people donated door by door. In today's world of computers, smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, charities can now reach more people than ever before.
Social media in particular has had a great impact on charity.___28___ This enables charities to raise money extremely quickly, as in Haiti. And the quicker aid can be delivered, the more lives can be saved. Individual fundraising has also benefited. Most people are now so well-connected through sites like Facebook that asking people to contribute to your chosen cause is easier than ever.
New, innovative ways of donating are being thought up all the time. For example, if you want to support a good cause and keep fit at the same time, you can use an app called Charity Miles.___29___ For every kilometer you cover, the app's sponsors will make a donation to a charity of your choice. There's also Snapdonate, which allows users to donate simply by taking a photo of a charity's logo with their smartphone. The app recognizes the logo and allows users to immediately make a donation through their phones. This cuts out the need for entering payment details on charity websites, and makes the process of donating small amounts to multiple charities much simpler.
Apps like these are growing in number, and that can only be a good thing.___30___
    A. People were eager to aid others in trouble.
    B. The app can track the distance you run or cycle.
    C. News of disasters spreads quickly around the world.
    D. Charity helps to refresh the development of social Media.
    E. Technological advances have changed how charities work.
    F. The international community jumped into action to provide aid.
    G. In future, we could support our chosen cause more easily and more often.
F 27. E 28. C 29. B 30. G

    27. 下文“Gone are the days when people donated door by door.(人们挨家挨户捐赠的日子一去不复返了)”说明捐助的方式发生改变。
    28. 上文“Social media in particular has had a great impact on charity.(尤其是社交媒体也对慈善机构有巨大影响。)” 下文“This enables charities to raise money extremely quickly, as in Haiti.(即使在海地,这也使慈善机构迅速筹集大量的资金。)”C项“News of disasters spreads quickly around the world.(灾难的新闻迅速传到全世界)”说明社交媒体对慈善机构的影响大,使集资更快,承上启下,故选C项。
    29. 上文“For example, if you want to support a good cause and keep fit at the same time, you can use an app called Charity Miles.(例如,如果你既想支持慈善事业又想保持健康,你可以使用叫作Charity Miles的软件)”介绍了Charity Miles的软件。B项“The app can track the distance you run or cycle.(这个软件可以追踪你跑步或者骑车的距离。)”
    30. 上文“Apps like these are growing in number, and that can only be a good thing.(像这样的软件正在大量发展中,并且那真是一件好事情)”说明支持慈善事业的软件在不断发展中。G项“In future, we could support our chosen cause more easily and more often.(将来我们可以更容易、更频繁的支持我们所选择的慈善事业)”是根据软件发展的情况,对将来的设想,故选G项。

I guess everyone would like to set off for a journey with someone we can understand and have fun with. Travelling with a companion(同伴) is great!
It's good to have someone with you who can watch your backpack when you want to use the toilet, find the way back home when you get lost, carry some of your luggage when you're tired, take some photos of you when you want and help you in all kinds of situations. The feeling of having someone by your side makes you feel less stressful about many things.
With a companion you can together share the beautiful moments during the travels, experience the same things in a different way and support each other. It's much more interesting and exciting when you have the chance to share something with someone while on your road. Meanwhile, there is always someone whom you can shout at when you are angry, or a shoulder on which you can cry when you miss your home.
A companion can share the costs with you. You can stay in one room, buy a dinner, have it together and share the bill, etc. It's good to travel with someone who has the same or similar pattern of payment as you so you can support each other without having any arguments.
Having a companion by your side when travelling means less loneliness. You don't think about it unless you get left in the middle of nowhere, far away from your friends and family. Then you wish to have someone with you.
In short, travelling with someone is the best choice for people who are short of travel experience. We might sometimes feel like being on our own and enjoy the sights with nobody behind our back but at the end of the day you have much more fun when being with someone, especially for a long run.
One possible version:
Travelling with a companion has lots of advantages. First, a companion can help you a lot and make you feel less stressful. Meanwhile, you will share beautiful moments better by experiencing the same together and support each other. Apart from that, traveling together not only saves money but also lessens your loneliness. In short, travelling with a companion is a good choice for you.
