（一）部分倒装表情绪

功能：为了强调某种情绪，可以使用so..that倒装结构。

e.g.:

1> During the exam, so nervous was I that my mind went blank.

2> So excited was he that he couldn't go to sleep.

句子练习：

1. 我震惊得睁大眼睛， 目瞪口呆。

So shocked was I that I was dumbfounded with my eyes wide open.

2. 他非常绝望，借酒消愁。

So desperate was he that he drowned his sadness.

3. 她心事太重，因此没听到妈妈的问题。

So busily engaged was her mind that she failed to hear her mother 's question.

4. 他的吼叫声实在太猛烈、太可怕，吓得小猫从他身旁跳开了。

So fierce and dreadful was his roar that the cat jumped away from him in alarm.

（二）部分倒装强调动作发生的时间

功能：为了强调动作发生的时间，可以使用not...until... 倒装结构。

e.g.:

1> Not until the fire die out did he wake up.

2> Not until he climbed into bed was he free to think about it.

句子练习：

1.       直到那只免子完全消失在我们的视线中，我们才不追了。

Not until the rabbit got completely out of sight did we stop chasing after it.

2.       直到那时Megan才说出了困扰她一整天的事。

Not until then did Megan poured out what had been disturbing her the whole day.

（三）全部倒装

功能：为了强调时间、地点，将时间、地点状语放在句首，使用全倒装结构。

e.g.:

1>Now comes your turn to make a short speech.

2> On the top of the mountain sat a giant man.

句子练习：

1.黑暗中传来一个他从来没有听过的声音。

Out of the darkness came a voice he had never heard before.

2.他的脑中闪过一位英雄战士的形象。

Through his mind flashed the image of a heroic fighter.

3.站在前门的是Jane的丈夫，他在找不到Jane的时候非常焦急。

At the front door stood Jane’s husband who suffered great anxiety when she was nowhere to be found.

4.他僵硬的脸上有一种恐惧和仇恨的表情。

On his rigid face there stood an expression of horror and hatred.

5.在她的前面是另一条长长的通道，她正好看到免子匆匆向远处跑去。

In front of her was another long passage and she just managed to catch sight of the rabbit hurrying down it.

（四）Such位于句前作表语

功能：为了突出强调表语内容，可以使用such引导的全部倒装结构。

e.g.:

1> Such is our home in the future.

2> Such was Albert Einstein, a simple man and the 20th century’s greatest scientist.

句子练习：

1. 这就是“有志者事竞成”这个真理。

Such is the truth that where there is a will, there is a way.

2. 这就是成功的秘诀，多一点点努力，多一点点决心，你就能创造出多一点点的奇迹。

Such is the key to success---a little bit more efforts and a little bit more determination will create a little bit more miracle.

阅读下面短文，根据所给情节进行续写，使之构成一个完整的故事。

One pleasant New Year morning, Edward rose and washed and dressed himself very quickly. He wanted to be the first to wish everyone a happy New Year. He looked in every room, and shouted the words of welcome. He ran into the street to repeat them to those he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two bright new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore.

He left the house with a light heart, intending to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor German family, the father, the mother, and three children shivering（发抖）with cold.

“I wish you a happy New Year,” said Edward, as he was happily passing by. The man shook his head. “You do not belong to this country?” said Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak the English language. But he pointed to his mouth, and to the children, as if to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in a very difficult situation and required some help. He took out his dollars, and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife.

How their eyes sparkled（闪耀）with gratitude! They said something in their language, which doubtless meant, “We thank you a thousand times, and will remember you in our prayers.”

When Edward came home, his father asked what book he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. “I have bought no books,” said he, I gave my money to some poor people, who seemed to be very hungry.”

“I think I can wait for my books till next New Year,” continued he.

They even didn't have enough clothes to wear. Edward's explanation made his father understand what had happened and he expressed that he couldn't agree more with him. In order to reward what he had done, his father bought the books, saying, “Wherever we saw someone in pain, never can we turn a blind eye to those in need. What you have done will make them a happy New Year.”

The next day, Edward was stepped by his father. When seeing what was held in his father’s hand, Edward felt a great sense of amazement welling up. He felt the sweetness of helping others. A few days later, Edward met the family again, and they still thanked him a thousand times. It seemed the city was bathed in brilliant sunshine because of Edward's feelings. It was only at the moment that he finally realized that whether rich or poor, he should do something to others. Thus, he can learn that giving is the source of happiness.
