    Step 1 Read and try.
    Read the sentences below and discuss the functions and meanings of the italicised -ing form.

    1. These lanterns are amazing.

    2. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, families gather to admire the shining moon and enjoy delicious mooncakes.
          ______________________________
      3. Families celebrating the Lunar New Year can enjoy exciting dragon dances and carnivals together.
         ______________________________

    Step 2 Practice

    1. I think the Rio Carnival would be the most exciting.___________
    2. It’ll be too tiring to walk or dance for a long time in those shoes.___________
    3. Another example is Halloween, which slowly became an exciting festival for children, in spite of its religious origins.___________

    Step 3 The meaning of v-ing as the attribute

    1. 用来说明被修饰的名词
    a waiting room = a room for waiting等候室

    2. 指所修饰的名词正在进行的动作, 与被修饰词之间是主动关系, 可以换成定语从句的形式
