Step 1 Pre-reading | 1. Have the Ss watch a video about a woman who is good at DIY. 2. Tell the Ss about my DIY story. (Present pictures and phrases) 3. Have the Ss read the phrases together. | Ss watch the video and know today’s topic. Listen and learn the new phrases.
Read the phrases twice. | To arouse students’ interests in today’s topic. To help students master the new words and phrases. |
Step 2 While-reading | Task One:Skimming Ask students to skim the passage and match the part with the main idea. Task Two: Detailed reading 1. Read Part1 and answer three questions; 2. Scan Part2 to answer: How many Andrew’s DIY jobs are talked about? Are they successful? Then find the information and fill in the table. Have the Ss work in groups of four and talk about Andrew’s DIY jobs and the problems he caused. Ask one group to talk about the pictures in class. 3. Read Part 3 together and compare Suzy’s and her cousin’s ideas about DIY . Then ask the Ss what we want to tell Andrew. | Skim the passage to match the main idea with paragraphs.
