Long ago, there lived a man who worked as a humble(卑微的)stonecutter. He was not happy with his job or his position in life. As he worked hard cutting stones, he saw a businessman pass by and thought, “How I wish I were as powerful as that man!” Suddenly, the stonecutter was changed into a powerful businessman. Others now envied him.
One hot day, as the man walked around the town watching all that he owned, he became angry with the strength of the sun’s rays, “How I wish I were as powerful as the sun!” he thought, and suddenly he became the sun, burning others with his heat.
Then one day a dark cloud crossed under him. Rain poured down and the wind blew, limiting the sun’s power over others. “How I wish I were as powerful as the storm!” he thought, and he became a storm with rain and wind. People were afraid of his great power, but when he blew against a huge rock, the rock didn’t move. “How I wish I were as powerful as that rock!” he thought, and in a moment he became the rock.

What is the most popular body building in 2018? Plogging, which is a mash-up(混合)of jogging and the Swedish (瑞典语)“plocka upp” , meaning pick up, has come into our eyes.
The idea of plogging was created by Erik Ahlstrom, a Swedish. He was surprised by the amount of rubbish there in nature. The same rubbish could remain in the road for several weeks without anyone picking it up. So he made up his mind to do something to change it. He started picking it up. To his surprise, stopping to clean up rubbish became a habit then part of his exercise plan as he put the activity into his runs. By 2016, other people were joining in, and plogging runs became official events in Sweden. They run with trash bags and gloves. After plogging, they will have a competition to see who picks up the most rubbish. Nowadays, plogging has attracted more people to take part in.
According to fitness app Lifesum, which allows users to record calories (卡路里)burned while plogging, plogging bums more calories as it requires some bending (弯腰)and some strength to hold all the rubbish — a half hour of plogging will bum 288 calories on average, compared (与……相 比)to just 235 calories from jogging.

Every day, from morning until night, under the hot sun, the slaves picked cotton and put it in their sacks. When they finished, Legree weighed it, and there was whipping for the slaves that didn't pick enough cotton.
One day a new woman called Cassy started working not far from Tom. Tom noticed that she was very fast. He also noticed an older slave Martha was in pain and slow. Her sack was almost empty. Tom went near Martha, and silently put a lot of his cotton into her sack.
“No, don't!” said the woman, looking surprised. “They will punish you.”
Just then Sambo arrived, kicked Martha and whipped Tom across his face. “Work faster, you animal!” But when he left, Tom quickly gave her some more of his cotton. Suddenly, the beautiful new woman put a large quantity of cotton in Tom's sack.
“Tom kept putting cotton into Martha's sack,” Sambo told Legree that night. “Then we'll have to teach him a lesson,” said Legree. Slowly the tired slaves entered the room for the weighing of the sacks. First Legree weighed Tom's sack, and it was enough. So was Martha's. But Legree shouted at her. “You lazy animal! This is not enough! ” Then he said to Tom, “ I want to give you a better job than picking cotton, take this woman and whip her--you know how.”
“I'm sorry, Master,” said Tom. “I can't do it.” Legree whipped Tom and hit him with his fists many times.“There!” he said. “Now will you tell me you can't do it?”
“Yes, Master,” said Tom, with blood running down his face. “I will work night and day, but I will never whip another person.”
“I bought you, and you're mine, body and soul,” he said, kicking Tom.

五、阅读表达 阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(10分)
Do you know what a resolution(决心) is? It’s a kind of promise. Most of the time, we make promises to other people. For example, “Mum, I promise I’m going to tidy my room when I get back from school.” However, promises you make to yourself are resolutions, and the most common kind is New Year’s resolutions. The start of the year is often a time for making resolutions. When we make resolutions at the beginning of the year, we hope that we are going to improve our lives. Some people write down their resolutions and plans for the coming year. This helps to remember their resolutions. Others tell their family and friends about their wishes and plans.
There are different kinds of resolutions. Some are about physical health. For example, some people promise themselves they are going to start an exercise programme or eat less fast food. Many resolutions have to do with self-improvement. These are about making yourself a better person. Some people might say they are going to take up a hobby like painting or taking photos, or learn to play the guitar. Some resolutions have to do with better planning, like making a weekly plan for schoolwork. For example, a student may have to find more time to study.
Although there are differences, most resolutions have one thing in common. People hardly ever keep them! There are good reasons for this. Sometimes the resolutions may be too difficult to keep. Sometimes people just forget about them. For this reason, some people say the best resolution is to have no resolutions! How about you? Will you make any resolutions next year?

Remember when you were a little child trying to learn to walk?

One day, a baby snail found that he had to carry a shell at any time. He was confused, so he went up to his mother and asked, "Why was I born with a shell that grew so hard and heavy?" His mother said, "Because we don't have bones to hold us up. We can only move slowly, so we need a shell to protect us. "
The baby snail asked again, ""The caterpillar has no bones, either, and she can't move quickly. Why can she live without a shell?" The mother snail answered, "That's because a caterpillar will become a butterfly. She can fly high into the sky. Then the sky can protect her. "

Here is some "breaking" news: the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added breaking into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!
Breaking might be one of the very strange sports to be added to the Games, as it's often seen as more of an art form than a sport.
The dance style first appeared on the streets of New York in the 1970s. In the 1980s, breaking swept around the world when it was adopted(采用)by pop stars such
as Michael Jackson. Young people worldwide were crazy about such kind of dance style.
Over the past few years, there has been a talk that the Olympic Games have become less interesting to young people. The IOC is trying to make the Games more "youthful", with sports that young people do in their spare time. "We want to take sport to the youth, "said IOC President Thomas Bach.
To be added to the Olympics, a sport must be practised by men in at least 75 countries on four continents (洲)and by women in no fewer than 40 countries on three continents. Also, it should be competitive and requires training just like other sports. Dancers need to have strong upper body and core strength. "It's great that it gives us more recognition as a sport, " said British breakdancer Karam.
