Passengers were treated to a very different experience on “the Wellness Train” in May, which was designed to reduce pressure, by doing thoughtful activities like reflection or arts and crafts.
The unique experience was operated on Saturday, May 7,2022 by the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and traveled from London’s King’s Cross to Lincoln in the UK, according to Time Out. It was to raise people’s understanding of what they can do to manage stress in time for Mental Health Awareness Week (May 9-14).
The idea was conducted by LNER. “Our teams often share some of enjoyment when travelling by train. It’s about making the most of a relaxing environment to get involved in activities that increase your sense of wellbeing,” Kate McFerran, director of communications at LNER said in the news release.
This special train trip offered mood-improving activities by a team of experts, according to Country Living. Each passenger received a seat that featured one activity and a special bag.
So whether you wanted to learn relaxation activities with behavior therapist Ann Richardson, or learn the traditional art of paper folding with Origami Party London, there was actually something for everyone. Other mindful activities included a knitting class, adult doodling, meditation, fitness, and one was even dedicated to games and puzzles.
“The LNER Wellness Train will provide customers traveling between London King’s Cross and Lincoln with a unique experience to engage in some of the most mindful activities you can do from the comfort of your own seat onboard the LNER Azuma service,” the events organizers told Country Living.
While this was just a one-day event, it is hoped that people will take away the idea that train travel can be a relaxing and stress relieving way to commute every day.

Seventeen young turtles raised from eggs saved from the smashed bodies of mothers killed on roads got their release back into the wild by a class of kindergartners.
It was part of a program that has saved thousands of turtles and returned them to the wild over the past 25 years. The turtles were either raised from the eggs of their dead mothers or were themselves rescued from roads, storm drains or other dangerous places over the years.
“It’s a great community connection,” said Lisa Ferguson, director of research and conservation at the Wetlands Institute, which runs the program along with Stockton University and Stone Harbor schools. “It shows how conservation works, and that everyone has a part to play, from adults down to kindergarten students.”
The turtle release took place during egg-laying season, when turtles come up out of the wetlands onto dry land to lay eggs, thus exposing themselves not only to natural predators, but also to the far more deadly threat of motor vehicles.
Aside from caring for injured live turtles, the Wetlands Institute harvests eggs from females killed on the road and incubates (孵化) them at 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), a temperature that will ensure they develop as females (egg temperature determines the sex of these turtles, Ferguson said).
When they have grown enough in their first year, they are ready for release into the wetlands surrounding the institute. That’s where the kids come in. Kindergartners from Stone Harbor schools get to know the turtles as they grow. They give them names, draw posters of them, and even bake and sell cookies to raise money for turtle conservation.
When it was time to set them free, some eagerly grasped the turtles from behind; others were more quiet to get up close and personal with squirming turtles and squishy mud, but each student seemed excited to see the turtles paddle away into the shallow water.
8.Why did the turtles need rescuing?
A.Because their eggs couldn’t develop as females.
B.Because they couldn’t walk across the road.
C.Because they lost their mother to the sea.
D.Because their habitat was threatened.
9.What did Lisa Ferguson think of the program?
A.Professional. B.Natural. C.Educational. D.Optional.
10.What did kids do for the program?
A.They learnt to befriend turtles. B.They provided turtles with food.
C.They saved the turtles from road kills. D.They cared for the injured live turtles.
11.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Go on fighting for them B.Work harder, worry less
C.Help them, happy together D.Save them to save ourselves
D
Heat can kill. It lowers a worker’s ability to concentrate and leads to notable increases in workplace injuries, research suggests.
Yet, for reasons including financial need, workplace pressure and a lack of awareness of the health impacts of high temperatures, many people continue to work past their heat tolerance. Outdoor workers, notably those within the construction and agricultural industry, are the most affected by rising heat. Even the fittest people in the world are impressionable like the Olympic athletes collapsing in the baking heat of Tokyo.
There are some easy ways to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion (热衰竭). Optimizing work hours to avoid workers being out when the sun is at its hottest may have the greatest effect on employee health.
Individualized, wearable sensors could be a useful tool for determining likely heat exhaustion. Early adoption of these devices would be a win-win, according to Dr Jennifer Runkle, an environmental epidemiologist (流行病学家): boosting productivity and reducing injury “while ensuring the health and safety of an ageing workforce and reducing the risk of heat exhaustion”.
Wider take-up of wearable heat sensors by employees, employers and healthcare providers would also help overcome gaps in heat awareness.
“One important finding we discovered in our research with outdoor workers is that there was a mismatch between workers ability to sense heat risk and their actual exposure to extreme heat gained by wearables” , said Dr Runkle.
Another aid could be wearable cooling technology, but such devices are limited in availability. One such device is Sony’s Reon Pocket 2, which it launched in April. A wearable cooling or warming device worn inside clothing, it uses electrical conductors that transfer (转移) heat when electricity is run through them.
There are promising examples of companies taking more responsibility for protecting workers from extreme heat, such as managers of bus drivers in Jinan, China. Responsible employers should be providing drinks and shaded rest areas to outdoor workers.
12.What does the underlined word “impressionable” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Highly impressive. B.Slightly sensible. C.Easily influenced. D.Hardly evaluated.
13.What did Dr Runkle find out?
A.The workforce was ageing rapidly.
B.Wearable heat sensors lacked great accuracy.
C.Employers attached little importance to heat exhaustion.
D.Workers’ heat awareness and actual heat were different.
14.Why are bus drivers in Jinan mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To stress the popularity of Reon Pocket 2.
B.To show their employers are responsible.
C.To reveal they are very tolerant of extreme heat.
D.To describe their unbearable pressure of work.
15.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Adjustments to Work Hours Can Be Life-saving.
B.Campaigners Are Calling for Workplace Protection.
C.How Can New Technology Protect Outdoor Workers?
D.How Were Body Temperature Monitors Invented?

Everyone sleeps. However, taking the time to develop a sleep habit is probably the last thing on your mind and some sleep advice simply can’t be forgotten. ______16______.
Watching TV until you fall asleep
It has nothing to do with what you watch —TV news isn’t a better pre-sleep choice than TV series.
_____17_____. The bright light keeps you awake all the night. So even if you nod off (in front of the TV, for example), you probably won’t stay asleep for long.
Sleeping with pets
______18______. They get comfortable, and then they move. This goes on all night, and whether you admit it or not, it interrupts your ability to get the level of sleep needed to feel rested.
Eating fatty, heavy foods too close to bedtime
Heartburn (烧心、胃痛) strikes anyone of any age, but it’s the most common GI disorder (胃肠失调) in older adults. If you’ve ever tried to go to sleep after eating a fatty meal, you’ve probably found the discomfort of stomach preventing you from falling asleep or staying asleep.
___19___
Remember how poorly you sleep when you have a fever—turning over and over again, never really feeling rested? Well, heavy exercise too close to bedtime has the same effect—it raises your body temperature so that your sleep is disturbed until your body temperature drops to normal, which may take several hours.
Accepting snoring (打呼噜) as normal sleep behavior
Snoring may seem as common as breathing, but it’s considered the biggest sleep killer, and it’s linked to several causes: sleeping on your back, being overweight, having a cold, drinking, or taking drugs. ______20______. For the snorer, it disturbs sleep by awakening him/her every so often in order to breathe normally. For the partner, the noise can be unbearable.
A.Exercising heavily too close to bedtime
B.Here are some suggestions you’ll need to follow
C.Reducing your body temperature before bedtime
D.Rather it’s the TV’s bright light that is the criminal
