In my childhood, my mother spent her evening hours doing something for someone else. Sometimes she knitted(编织)hats for babies, and at other times, she cooked chicken soup for sick neighbors. Therefore, I wasn't surprised when one evening my mother announced she had undertaken a new project.
“I am going to telephone seniors,” said my mother. “Every night? But you don't even know these people.” “It doesn't matter,” she said, “What's important is that I listen.”
I was sixteen years old and couldn't understand why my mother was willing to spend her evenings talking to strangers. She had friends and my two older sisters to call if she felt lonely. “They will talk your ear off. Some people didn't even stop to catch breath.” I said.
My attitude didn't stop my mother's enthusiasm for the project. That evening, she settled on the sofa and dialed. When she finished the call, I said, “Why do you care whether she had cookies or rice pudding for dessert? “My mother grasped one of my hands and said in a proud tune, “I'm the only person she talked to today.”
It took me more than thirty years to fully understand the meaning of that statement. Now, as my mother is near eighty, I find myself thinking about those nightly calls she used to make. I am often the only person who telephones my mother, and sometimes I'm the only person she speaks to all day. I ask her what she cooked for dinner, but mostly I just listen as she describes a walk she took, or how her dog Lucky stole foods from the refrigerator. I realize that my mother's calls were life lines that ensured housebound seniors remained connected to the world. Without her, their world would have been empty.
24.What is the mother's purpose of calling the seniors?
A.To improve their living conditions.
C.To ease their loneliness.
B.To inquire their eating habits.
D.To teach them surviving skills.
25. What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 probably mean?

A.The author started to telephone seniors as her mother.
B.The author realized the value of her mother's efforts.
C.The author's mother preferred to live alone.
D.The author's mother remained connected to the world.
27. What is the suitable title for the passage?
A.Seniors'comfort
C.Aging:my concern
B.Mother's evenings
D.Nightly calls,lifeline calls

One way to prevent anxiety from getting out of control is to recognize its benefits. It is a mistake to think that we can make better decisions if we keep our feelings under control.Instead,a mix of feelings like anxiety and logical thinking leads to sound decision-making. There is plenty of research showing that higher levels of anxiety can make us more likely to avoid risks in our decision-making.There is also evidence that anxiety can increase the attention you pay to relevant information.
Recent studies have shown that people who are anxious about their relationships (for example, they fear to be abandoned) tend to be better at recognizing people who tell lies and are more likely to raise the alarm when danger approaches.
In the real world though, it's worth realizing that feeling anxious for a while is very common. It helps you communicate with others that you care about, and what's more, it's probably a sign that you are intelligent. At least two published studies have identified that people who score higher on measures of anxiety also tend to perform better on intelligence tests. This seems reasonable: If you're a thinker, you are sure to be always thinking about the future and imagining possible plots, including bad ones.
The important thing, if you are a person likely to worry, is not to let your fear destroy your dreams. And don't bury your head in the sand. Instead, act on your fears - do research as well as preparation. So rather than walk blindly into what you fear, why not meet challenges in full readiness?
When anxiety beats you, or casts a shadow over your life, this is a serious problem. No one is denying that. But like everyday anxiety of this kind that you feel before a presentation or interview, you needn't see it as your enemy. Anxiety is an important feeling, developed through evolution(进化).As for people who are fairly anxious by nature, there is a reason to cheer, too.Your nerves are a sign of your watchfulness. Listen to them and act on them. Then you can turn your nervousness into your advantage.
28. What can we infer about anxiety from paragraph 1?
A.It enables us to be more focused.
B. It stops us from thinking logically.
C. It makes us more willing to take risks.
D.It contributes to bad decision-making.
29. What can be learned about anxious people?
A.They sense danger in advance.
B.They score higher in tests.
C.They prefer to interact with strangers.
D.They tend to be thoughtful about future.
30. How should we deal with anxiety in the author's opinion?
A.By regarding it as our enemy.
C.By making use of it properly.
B.By taking action to control it.
D.By treating it as a minor feeling.

Not long ago, “blind box economy" suddenly became popular, winning the heart of large numbers of faithful fans.People simply get interested in it. A couple spent 200,000 yuan on them.Another sixty-year-old guy spent over 700,000 yuan in buying blind boxes. Statistics showed that last year 300,000 hobbyists made deals through a second-hand shopping platform.
The blind boxes usually contain attached dolls of comics and animation, or film and television, or specially designed ones. A single blind box usually costs about thirty to fifty yuan. But there is no mark on the box, and only after opening it can the buyer see what he has bought. This is rather like buying lottery (彩票)tickets, for the buyer has to bet on his luck.
However, addiction to blind box is much like that to gambling(赌博).It is not easily obvious compared with lottery ticket. Nobody knows whether sellers of blind boxes exaggerated(夸大)the winning rate so as to attract people to buy them, thus digging a consumption trap. Besides, it is also unknown whether the objects in the blind boxes are genuine or not. The blind box economy promoted its second-hand trade. The price of some classic dolls or dolls of limited edition have skyrocketed in second-hand trade platforms, and some may reach thirty to forty times. But it is difficult for buyers to judge whether it is the result of real supply and demand, or the consequence of business men's tricks.
The basis of the “blind box economy” is the cultural trend of collection. Many of the target consumers are young people who lack experience of life. They are thus attracted by deliberately exaggerated probability of “winning a prize" and constantly throw money to buy blind boxes in order to gain dolls that they desire. Or they may buy at second-hand trade platform high-priced blind box dolls, thinking they can keep value preserved and appreciated, thus falling into the fixed pattern of trap carefully designed by businessmen.
Therefore, it is necessary to remind young people to control their consumption in case they become addicted.
32. Why are a couple and a sixty-year-old guy mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.To stress the importance of “blind box economy”.
B.To give the sum of money spent on “blind box economy”.
C.To show the popularity of “blind box economy”.
D.To prove older people can afford to pay more.
33. What might contribute to “blind box economy”?
A.The unknown objects in the blind boxes.
B.The desire to make a fortune overnight.
C.The skyrocketed price of some classic dolls.
D.The high winning rate exaggerated by sellers.
34. What can be learned from paragraph 4?
A.Young people should be reminded to control themselves.
B.Young people are more likely to be attracted and tricked.
C.Young people have the potential to win big prizes
D.Young people can manage their life economically.
35. What's the author's purpose of writing the passage?
A.To inform readers.
C.To list reasons.
B.To promote products.
D.To warn consumers.

There's a small, brown brick house, almost hidden by evergreens in front that I visit from time to time. It's not the house that is special to me, but rather the person who lives inside. After I parked my car,I knocked on the door and heard a singsong voice inviting me in.
“It's me, Miss C,”I said as I took off my coat.
“Put your boots under the heater, lovey,"she said as she slowly appeared in the hallway with her walker.
We gave each other a long, tight hug.
I met Miss C about 45 years ago when she was my sister's kindergarten teacher. I remember looking into her classroom wishing I was her student. My parents reassured me I could start school when I was 4. However, when I turned 4 in the spring, I couldn't understand why I had to wait until September.
My classmates and I knew our teacher deeply cared about us. For me, that is the mark of an extraordinary educator-one who instills (灌输) both the love for learning within their students and the excitement of going to school.
Miss C created a safe place where we could be whatever we wanted to be in that moment: a painter, a construction worker, a dancer, a writer. One spring morning, we were overjoyed by the arrival of baby chick eggs. We named and cared for them for a few weeks. After they hatched, we became keen scientists carefully documenting their development through pictures and words in our egg journals. We also made handicrafts with empty yogurt containers, which Miss C collected or we brought from home.
I loved her and I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher just like her. When I graduated,I couldn't wait to invite Miss C to my classroom. For years, Miss C volunteered in my classroom. I feIt fortunate to learn about teaching from her. I looked forward tour conversations as colleagues and friends.

第一节
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Li Hua from senior Grade Three. With graduation approaching, I'd like to apply to study further in Hong Kong University. Now I'm writing to ask you for some information regarding its admission policy.
To begin with, could you tell me what I am expected to do to gain admission to the major I have the greatest passion for ? Still, I’m wondering whether there is any English admission examination upon registration/enrollment? If so, I will get fully prepared ahead of time. Moreover, it would be better if you could offer me some information related to tuition fees, scholarship, living costs and accommodation as well.
Your generous assistance and prompt reply would be highly appreciated.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version
I brought up boxes from her basement and placed them at her feet. Then I sat on the floor and opened each box for her. One by one we went through every painting a student had given to her and every thank-you note a parent had written. Before I left, she handed me a bag of “garbage” as she called it, which consisted of many of her teaching aids and the empty containers she saved for me.She knew these are treasures only to kindergarten teachers. I happily accepted them and gave her a hug goodbye.
With the bag of "garbage", I left her house. I got into my house and backed out of her driveway. While driving home, I couldn't help thinking of my 45-year friendship with my kindergarten teacher. It was under her influence that I became a teacher and it was our friendship that made me a good teacher. Teaching is a profession that is devoted to the development of young individuals. The lucky teachers get to see what their students have done with their lives. The exceptional ones never leave their students’ hearts.

(Text 3)
M: It looks like your engine's been running low on oil, and that caused a bit of damage. I'll have to keep it overnight and repair it in the morning.
W:Ugh...I should've paid attention to the head light. But how am I going to get home tonight? M:We have an older model we could loan to you until tomorrow.
(Text 4)

第二节
(Text 6)
M:That sailing course was great.
W: I couldn't agree more. And it was a good job I'd read a bit about how to do it before I went, because I couldn't actually hear a lot of what the teacher said.
M:The sails made quite a lot of noise in the wind, but there was just the right amount for learning how to sail.
W:And the waves were really small too, which made things easier. I think the club needs to spend some money on new boats, though. The one I was in felt like it might fall to bits at any moment.

M:Have you finished that book we're studying in our literature class yet?
W:Yes, last night I stayed up late because I couldn't stop reading the last few pages. I really didn't expect the hero to be killed.
M:I thought he might be. I read an interview with the author who said some readers would be disappointed by what happened at the end. I've never read anything that had someone like him
as the hero, though. That's what made it so interesting. Most books rely on the story and lots
happening, but this was more about his thoughts and feelings.
W:True!

W: Oh, man. Someone ran a pen through the dryer, and now all of the clothes and the dryer are a real mess.
M:Ugh.Wow.That's rough. Well, I have to go. I'm playing tennis with Jacob in a few minutes.
W:No way! Wait, wait. What about the mess?
M:Well,uh,what clothes did you have in there?
W:Listen. I had two of my new shirts, a pair of shorts, the children's running socks, and one of your work shirts.
M:No way!
W:Look! Here's the pen, and it has your company logo on it. I guess it was your fault.
M:Oooh.Uh...
W:Call your friends and tell them you're going to be late. And try using this remover. It'll help get the ink marks out of the dryer.

M:We've got TV actress Brittany Briers in the studio.Brittany, how did you discover your love of acting?
W:I was always trying to be like TV characters at home but never thought of acting. When I was twelve,Mum sent me to drama classes. Then I learned enough to act in a school play. Being on stage then was definitely what got me interested!
M:What was your first professional theatre performance like?
W: The person I played had an American accent - I kept thinking I'd go back to my own.I'm sure things like not remembering your lines are embarrassing when there's a huge audience.I made sure that didn't happen.
M:Later you went into TV acting. Why?
W: I was seen on stage by a director who thought I was perfect for a TV series he was making.I thought “Why not learn some fresh skills?” The extra money was useful, but I'd never take a job just for money, though.
M:What do you love most about your job?
W:When a new TV series comes out and my family get excited - but I avoid watching myself on screen. I get the real excitement from picking up the envelope containing my new role.
听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在,你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
(Text 10)
W:Hello everyone. My name is Luca. Welcome you all to Los Cabos. The bus ride to your hotel will take about fifteen minutes. Right now I'd like to take a minute to familiarize you with the area.Firstly, please realize that it is against the law to get drunk in public.
I promise you are going to enjoy your stay here in Los Cabos. This is a beautiful, quiet city where you can relax, sit by the beach, enjoy great meals and feel very safe. You can walk into town and enjoy the fountains or take a moonlit walk along the water.Suntan Tours offers a variety of special discounts depending on your travel plans. There will be a short information session at 1:00 pm in the hall of the hotel tomorrow where you can learn all about these offers. If you need to exchange your dollars into pesos, please use a bank or money exchange. We don't recommend exchanging your money neither at the hotel nor at a scenery spot because you won't get a fair rate. Also, if you want to get around the city, you'd better off taking the local bus. If you do decide to take a taxi, make sure that you negotiate a price before you go.
We're going to be pulling up to the hotel in just a few minutes. Javier and Diego will be meeting us at the bus to help you with your bags. I hope to see you tomorrow at the information session.
