    Unit 3 Language in use

    设计说明

    本单元是复习单元,复习宾语从句和定语从句的用法;复习巩固本模块的重点单词、短语和句型。本课从指导学生朗读Language practice中的句子入手,引入语法的集中讲解与练习。除语法专项训练外,本单元还安排了词汇和听力的训练以及拓展视野的Around the world栏目,介绍了美国中学的毕业舞会。在本课的末尾安排了实践性环节制订未来计划。所有这些环节的设置,旨在提升学生的语言运用能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标:

    (1) 复习本模块新单词、短语和句型;

    (2) 复习巩固宾语从句和定语从句的用法。

    2. 能力目标:

    (1) 熟练运用本模块所学的单词、短语和句型;

    (2) 为自己制订未来计划。

    3. 情感目标:

    珍惜师生情,珍重同学情,为了远大的目标,继续努力。

    Step 1 Review

    1. Ask the students to read the new words and expressions in Module 8.

    2. Get some students to read the conversation in Unit 1 in different roles.

    3. Get the students to read the passage in Unit 2 on their own.

    Step 2 Lead-in

    Show the picture to the class and ask them to discuss:

    You will finish junior high school soon. What is your future plan?

    Step 3 Language practice

    1. Read the sentences in the box to the class.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    2. Get the students to read the sentences.

    3. Encourage some of them to repeat the sentences.

    Step 4 Grammar

    一、定语从句

    定语从句在句中作定语, 用来修饰某个名词或代词, 这个名词或代词叫先行词, 而定语从句位于先行词的后面。用来引导定语从句的词叫做关系词。

    关系词分关系代词(that, which, who, whom, whose)和关系副词(when, where, why)

    关系词引导定语从句, 指代先行词, 并在从句中作一定成分, 如作主语、宾语或状语等。

    用来引导定语从句的关系代词有that, which, who, whom, whose

    that引导的定语从句

    that引导定语从句时, 既可以指人, 也可以指物, 在从句中可以作主语或宾语。

    He is a person that does what he says. (person是先行词, that在从句中作主语)

    他是一个说话算数的人。

    The cat that I bought yesterday is ill. (cat是先行词, that在从句中作宾语)

    我昨天买的那只猫病了。

    who引导的定语从句

    who引导定语从句时只能指人, 在从句中可以作主语或宾语。

    A friend who helps you when you have trouble is a real friend.  (friend是先行词, who在从句中作主语)

    在你有困难时帮助你的朋友才是真正的朋友。   

    whom也可以引导定语从句, 在从句中只能作宾语, who作宾语时可与whom互换, 但介词后只能用whom, 不能用who

    He is the man who / whom I have been looking for.

    =He is the man for whom I have been looking.他就是我一直在找的人。

    which引导的定语从句

    which引导定语从句时, 只能指物, 在从句中可以作主语或宾语。

    I want to take away the book which you showed me yesterday.

    (book是先行词, which在从句中作宾语)

    我想带走你昨天给我看的那本书。

    【注意】

    在由that, whowhich引导的定语从句中, 当它们在从句中作主语时, 不可以省略;作宾语时, 可以省略。

    Do you know the girl who/that is singing in the classroom?

    你认识在教室里唱歌的那个女孩吗?

    This is the most beautiful butterfly (that) I have ever seen.

    曾经看过的最漂亮的蝴蝶。

    介词后面只能用whichwhom, 不能用thatwho

    【注意】

    ◆当先行词是物时, 关系词只能用that的情况:

    a. 先行词被序数词或形容词最高级所修饰,或本身是序数词、基数词、形容词最高级时, 只能用that,而不用which。例如:

    It was the first thing that I must do. 是我必须做的第一件事情。

    b. 被修饰的先行词为all, everything, anything等不定代词时, 只能用that, 而不用which

    Is there anything that you want to buy in the shop? 想在商店里买什么东西吗?

    c. 先行词被the only, the very, the just等词修饰时,只能用that,而不用which  

    This is the very bike that I lost.就是我失的辆自行车。

    d. 先行词里同时含有人或物时, 只能用that, 而不用which      

    I can remember well the persons and some pictures that I saw in the room.

    能清楚地记我在房间里看到的人和一些照片。

    Practice

    Work on 1.

    Complete the sentences using which, that, who or whom.

    (1) Ask the students to complete the sentences on their own.

    (2) Check the answers as a class.

    Possible answers:

    2. A handbag is a small bag that/which women use to carry their things.

    3. School-leavers are young people that/who are leaving school.

    4. A classmate is someone that/who is in the same class as me.

    5. A friend is someone that/who/whom I trust.

    6. A stranger is someone that/who/whom I don’t know.

    Work on 2.

    Work in pairs. Look at the picture and the menu. Discuss the questions.

    1. How do you know that the party is international?

    2. Why are the people cheering?

    3. What do you think the person making a speech is saying?

    (1) Ask the students to work in pairs and discuss the questions.

    (2) Encourage some pairs to ask and answer.

    Possible answers:

    1. I think the party is international because the food is international.

    2. I think the people are cheering because they are happy about what the speaker is saying.

    3. I think the speaker is saying that now the speech is over and it is time to eat!

    二、宾语从句

    引导词(连接词)

    宾语从句三要素      语序

    时态

    1. 宾语从句要用陈述语序

    2. 宾语从句的引导词:that, 疑问词, if/whether

    3. 宾语从句的时态

    (1) 主句若为一般现在时,从句根据实际情况可用相应的任何时态。

    He says (that) they have returned already他说他们已经回来了。

    He tells me that he was born in 1985.他告诉我他生于1985年。

    (2) 如果主句用一般过去时,从句要用过去时态的某种形式。

    He said (that) he bought a new dictionary他说他买了本新词典。

    I knew they were studying English我知道他们正在学英语。

    【注意】如果从句表达的是客观事实、真理、自然现象、名言、警句、格言、谚语等等,无论主句是什么时态,从句都用一般现在时。如:

    Our teacher told us that light travels faster than sound.

    我们老师告诉我们,光比声音传播得快。

    He said that one and one is two.他说11等于2

    4. ifwhether引导的宾语从句

    (1) ifwhether引导宾语从句时,作“是否”讲,一般情况下,二者没有区别,可以换用。但if常用于口语中,whether比较正式。   

    Millie asked if/whether he liked this sweater.

    米莉问他是否喜欢这件羊毛衫。

    The fisherman wants to know if/whether it will rain.

    渔民想知道天是否会下雨。

    (2) 下列情况只能用whether而不能用if:

    or not直接跟在关联词后时,只能用whether

    Nobody knows whether or not he will go to the party.

    没有人知道他是否去参加聚会。

    在动词不定式之前只能用whether

    I can’t decide whether to go or to stay.我不能决定是走还是留。

    在介词后只能用whether

    The boy worried about whether he could pass the exam.

    这个男孩担心他是否能通过考试。

    Practice

    Work on 3.

    Complete the passage with the clauses in the box.

    (1) Ask the students to read the clauses in the box. Make sure they understand all of them.

    (2) Tell the students to complete the passage on their own.

    (3) Ask them to compare their answers with their partners. Discuss the different answers.

    (4) Check the answers as a class.

    Step 5 More practice

    1. Work on 4.

    (1) Read the words in Box A and Box B together.

    (2) Join the words in Box A with the words in Box B to make new words.

    Answers:

    (3) Complete the passage with words in groups.

    (4) Check the answers as a class.

    Answers:

    2. Work on 5.

    Complete the sentences with the words or expressions in the box.

    (1) Ask the students to read the words and expressions in the box and then complete the sentences.

    (2) Compare answers in pairs.

    (3) Check the answers as a class.

    Step 6 Listening

    Work on 6.

    Listen and answer the questions.

    (1) Ask the students to read the questions before listening.

    1. Did Adam go to Africa or America?

    2. What did Adam do there?

    3. What does Adam like most about the country?

    4. What did Adam do at weekends?

    5. What does Adam want to do in the future?

    (2) Play the recording for the students to listen to and answer the questions.

    (3) Play the recording again for them to check their answers. Then ask them to compare their answers with their partners’.

    (4) Check the answers as a class.

    Answers:

    1. Adam went to Africa.

    2. He helped to build a primary school.

    3. The people are very friendly.

    4. He visited the beaches.

    5. He wants to go to college and maybe become a teacher.

    Step 7 Reading

    Work on 7.

    Read the passage and choose the correct answer.

    (1) Ask the students to read the passage first, then the questions and the answers.

    (2) Tell them to choose the correct answer.

    (3) Check the answers as a class.

    Step 8 Around the world

    1. Ask the students to listen to the recording.

    2. Ask them to read the passage.

    Step 9 Making plans for your future

    1. Think about your life in the future. Make notes about the following things:

    what you are planning to do in the next three years

    what you would like to do after that

    what other areas of your life you want to develop

    what sort of values you think will be important to you

    2. Use your notes to write sentences.

    3. Join your sentences and write a passage about your future plan.

    Step 10 Homework

    Write a passage about your future plan.
