￭ 在过去某段时间一直在进行的动作(a) Frm 1983 t 1998, he was teaching at Yale.(b) They were building a dam last winter.
2. 过去进行时的句式 (1) 基本结构：was / were + verb-ing (2) 否定式：was / were nt + verb-ing was nt = wasn’t were nt = weren’t

(3) 疑问句：将 was / were 调到主语前 结构为:Was/Were+主语+verb-ing? 回答：Yes, 主语+was/were. N, 主语+ was nt/wasn’t. were nt/weren’t.

Past cntinuus tense with ‘while’ , ‘when’ and ‘as’
when, while 和 as 这三个词都有 “当……时候”的意思。 There were fewer sandstrms when my grandparents were yung. 我祖父母年轻时沙尘暴要少些。
While Mille was watching TV, her mum was sleeping.米莉在看电视时，妈妈在睡觉。I saw a traffic accident as I was riding t schl this mrning.今天早晨我骑自行车时看到一起交通事故。
2.when 和 as 既可以指某一点时间，也可以指某一段时间，其从句谓语动词表示的动作既可以是瞬间性的，也可以是延续性的；while指一段时间，从句中的谓语动词必须是延续性的。即：指一段时间时when, while 和as都可用；指一点时间时，只能用when或as，不能用while。
试比较： When/As he wke up, it was eight ’clck.2. While he wke up, it was eight ’clck.3. When/While/As I was waiting fr a bus, I met her.
3. 当 while , when 和 as 放在句首时， 两个句子应用逗号隔开。
When the teacher came in, we were talking.While the pig was dancing, the rabbit was jumping.As the tw men were leaving, a message arrived.
长动作(过去进行时) +when +短动作(一般过去时) 某个动作正在进行时, 另一动作突然发生 I was sleeping when it started t rain. I was walking in the street when a dg barked at me.
2. 长动作(过去进行时) + while +长动作(过去进行时) 两个长动作同时进行 Mum was cking dinner while Dad was reading newspapers.
3. as…可以表示“随着….”或“一边…一边….”，此时不可用when/while.1) As years g by, China is getting richer and strnger.2) The little girl sang as she played.
