Asha, Tanzania
Hi there! My name is Asha and I'm from Tanzania. Like most teenagers,I start my day early and end it late. After school,I study at a night school to prepare for the university entrance exam. When I have time off, I prefer to be outdoors. I love nature and animals.I'm quite upset about how we treat the environment,so I do my best to help. I volunteer to plant trees and I'm a member of our school's Nature Club.
Samika, Bangladesh
Hi! I'm Samika and I'm 15. I wish I were a student, but I'm not. I had to leave school when I was 13 so that I could get a job and help my family. I work in a garment factory. It's unbelievably hard work and the days are so long. Although everyone works hard, we still find time to play and laugh together. At times like these, the world feels like a wonderful place.
Frieder, Germany
Hi, Frieder here. So, I'm 16 and I go to a high school in Munich. I'm not crazy about school — listening to a teacher isn't my thing — but I know I have to get an education. It's very difficult for young people to find a job in Europe, so I worry a lot about the future. Oh, and I'm a gaming nerd. I love Internet games so much that I have started a gaming club in my school. Maybe I'll see you online — my screen name is FastFreddy.

My high school life has been filled with many ups and downs, whether it was social or academic.Even though my current high school was not my first choice, I never regretted attending Southside High School.“Since you have chosen it, then it is the best for you,” said my parents.
Up until the junior year I did not realize my capabilities (能力) as a student.Being in the IB Program, I was told that my junior year would be the toughest in all the years of high school. With this “little” piece of information, I walked into my junior year, scared of my grades. As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong. My grades were rapidly declining (下降) and by the end of the first term I had had five Cs in seven of my classes! I could not believe it — I did not want to believe it. I tried my best to get my grades up myself without any help from anyone, but my pride just made my grades worse. And I had to miss out on one of the most important speech and debate competitions all year:States. I was heartbroken. I realized that I could not survive my junior year on my own, so I had to get help fast.
Once I got a tutor, my grades went from Cs, Ds, and even some Fs, to nothing but As and Bs. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself. By the time the third and fourth quarter came around, I had been on the honor roll twice, and I was receiving awards from speeches and debates, tennis and school.
Southside has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me.I am proud to be a Southside Tiger.

We'll finally grow up someday, leaving our parents and facing the challenges in life. Parents may not be able to solve every problem for us. Instead, we should have enough life skills to cope with the problems that come our way.
This is what our country tries to do now:Helping more students gain working spirit. To stress the importance of hard-working spirit education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council released a guideline recently. The guideline calls for students to respect work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.
The government has been trying to stress the importance of hard-working spirit education. But this has been overlooked in recent years. Many teens do not value the importance of working hard and are uninterested in doing so.
According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday chores around the house.
Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says. Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experiences. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.
As children's first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

It's school time again! You're probably feeling excited or maybe a little sad for the vacation is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and maybe even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around for a little while. Let's find out more about going back to school.
Most teachers kick_off the school year by introducing themselves and talking about what you'll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class.
When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules so you'll know what's allowed and what's not. Pay close attention so you'll know if you need to raise your hand to ask a question and what the rules are about visiting the restroom.
You might already know a lot of people in your class on the first day. But it's a great day to make new friends, so try to say “hello” to the kids you know and the new ones that you don't. Make the first move and you'll be glad about what you did and so will your new friends!
Most teachers let you pick your own seat on the first day, but by the second or third morning, they'll have mapped out a seating plan. It's a good idea to write down where your seat is in your notebook so you don't forget.
Here are a few final tips for a fantastic (奇异的) first day: Get enough sleep; Have a healthy breakfast; Try your best; Develop good work habits, like writing down your assignments (作业) and handing in your homework on time; Take your time with schoolwork; If you don't understand something, ask the teacher.

I will share the kind act that I met with all of you.We had dozens of restaurant options within a short distance, so we often took advantage of this luxury. On one occasion,I ran out to get some food.I saw the clouds in the distance and decided I could make it there and come back in time, but I was wrong. I was about to leave the restaurant when the rain just poured. The street was flooded within minutes.
But I had my little girl and husband waiting for me back at home, and they were hungry,so I knew I had to make a run for it.The owner of the restaurant tried to encourage me to wait inside, but I insisted that I should go.At this point, he grabbed his umbrella and said,“Okay, let's go.” Of course I tried to convince him that it wasn't necessary for him to walk me home, but I knew I wouldn't prevent him from doing so.So off we went.We quickly realized that the umbrella wouldn't help much in keeping us dry.He walked me all the way to my apartment building, where he said goodbye and ran back to the restaurant.
Again I encountered this act of kindness when I was making my way to the bus. As I waited at the crosswalk, it began to rain lightly.Nothing was too bad, but a young guy nearby felt like it was heavy enough to make him step next to me and hold his umbrella above both of us.After a while, the lights turned green.I thanked him and walked across the street.
Getting around the city when you are six months pregnant and have a two-year-old kid can be challenging sometimes. One spring afternoon,I realized I needed something from the store to finish preparing for dinner. The weather seemed a bit questionable but the store was around the corner so I decided to risk it.

Paragraph 2:
As we crossed the street the woman offered me her umbrella.I said my apartment building was nearby but she insisted that I take it.I refused, but she said it just started to pour. At the same time, she handed me the umbrella and left with her husband.Staring at her figure,I was too moved to express thanks to her.I went home with the umbrella and put it away in a secret place. It was a sign of kindness.
