    A
I had not hugged a friend or a family member for more than two years until recently when my sister flew in for a brief visit. For safety, we met outside. Despite the wintry weather, her hug warmed me from the inside out. It’s strange, but only now do I truly realize how much I’ve missed embracing loved ones.
I grew up through war in my hometown of Sarajevo, Bosnia, and every moment was full of danger. On one peaceful morning, I had begged my mom to let me go outside after spending weeks indoors. She finally agreed. I was outside for only 10 minutes when I was caught in an explosion. I ran to my neighbor’s house for safety and hung my arms around her neck just as my legs collapsed underneath me.
Thankfully, I made a full physical recovery, but the emotional scars never left me. Years later there was another explosion near my house. I was safely inside, but my father had left to buy a loaf of bread. He had only just missed the explosion. When he came back inside, I gave him the biggest hug imaginable. I was caked in tears as I held him tight.
That same night my parents managed to arrange my escape from our war-torn city. I was 16 and came to America on my own. A generous host family took me in. They had a large dog called Oscar. Over the next several months, I secretly struggled with feeling homesick and worried about my family back home. Despite managing quite well at school, I couldn’t express my feelings. The only way I shared how I felt was by giving Oscar a big hug.
It is yet another sad aspect of our pandemic(疾病大流行的) lives that hugging a stranger is the last thing on our minds. For many of us, even hugging a relative or a friend comes with stress and anxiety over risks and precautions. As I look back on my past, I count myself truly lucky to have been held, shielded and encouraged at some of the most key moments of my life by the power of a hug.
    1. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Experience of war. B. Love for family.
    C. Impact of pandemic. D. Power of embracing.
    2. How did the author feel when she hugged her father?
    A. Frightened. B. Ashamed. C. Relieved. D. Astonished.
    3. What can we learn about the author from the passage?
    A. She had her arms hurt in an explosion.
    B. She missed her family very much while in America.
    C. She couldn’t catch up with her classmates at school.
    D. She recovered quickly from the wounds of the war.
    4. What does the underlined word “shielded” mean in Paragraph 5?
    A. Protected. B. Persuaded. C. Covered. D. Understood.
D 2. C 3. B 4. A

根据第三段“Thankfully, I made a full physical recovery, but the emotional scars never left me. Years later there was another explosion near my house. I was safely inside, but my father had left to buy a loaf of bread. He had only just missed the explosion. When he came back inside, I gave him the biggest hug imaginable. I was caked in tears as I held him tight. (谢天谢地,我的身体完全康复了,但情感上的创伤从未离开我。几年后,我家附近又发生了一起爆炸。我在里面很安全,但我父亲已经去买面包了。他差一点就撞上了爆炸。当他回来的时候,我给了他一个能想象到的最大的拥抱。我紧紧地抱着他,热泪盈眶。)”可知,能见到父亲平安回来,对爆炸有着心理阴影的作者才“放下了心(Relieved)”,给了父亲的大大的拥抱。故选C项。

We're willing to bet you know at least one kid who loves Peppa Pig. The British TV show has been attracting youthful audiences around the world for almost two decades and has even created a generation of American kids with fake British accents. Well, all those millions of young Peppa fans will soon have their own theme park in the United States that they can visit with their parents. Moving over Disney World, Peppa Pig is headed to Florida.
The new theme park is slated to open in Orlando, Florida in 2022 and will feature rides, attractions, a water play area and live shows all popular with preschool-age children and their families. Kids will have the opportunity to meet Peppa, George, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and the rest of the animal group as they explore the adorable world that looks like it's been dropped right out of TV and into central Florida.
Peppa fans will love rides such as Grandad Dog's Pirate Boat Ride, where the little piggies can hop aboard and set sail for Pirate Island, and Peppa Pig's Balloon Ride, where they get to fly high above the park in one of Miss Rabbit's hot air balloons. Other rides feature characters like Grampy Rabbit and Mr. Bull.
The park will also feature two play zones: A splash pad where kids can mimic (模仿) jumping in muddy puddles filled with fountains, slides and interactive water features perfect for hot Florida summers and Pirate Island where everyone in the family can look for buried treasure or build sand castles with Danny Dog. Are you looking for something adults will love too? Check out the classic boardwalk with free arcade games. When it's time for a break, head to the cinema, where kids can watch their favorite episodes of Peppa Pig in a cool dark theatre.
Yearly passes are already available for the new park for $75. The opening day is still to be announced, but we're guessing there are enough Peppa Pig episodes to keep you and the kids occupied until next year.
    5. What can we learn about Peppa Pig from paragraph 1?
    A. It has a negative effect on kids. B. It enjoys great popularity.
    C. It deserves to be adored by kids. D. It appeals to no Americans.
    6. Which of the following is closet in meaning to "slated" in paragraph 2?
    A. Prohibited. B. Pressed. C. Planned. D. Permitted.
    7. What is the author's writing purpose?
    A. To introduce us to the vivid characters involved in Peppa Pig.
    B. To evaluate whether such a theme park will possibly be a hit.
    C. To convince us of the endless entertainment the park can offer.
    D. To inform us of a Peppa Pig theme park to be opened in Florida.

The opening day is still to be announced, but we're guessing there are enough Peppa Pig episodes to keep you and the kids occupied until next year.(新公园的年票售价为75美元。
    C
When you buy something for yourself, you probably spend hours shopping around for the best deal on the highest quality product. Some of you may even desire to know how a brand operates as a company. However, when we donate money to one of the countless charities out there, most of us don’t conduct such research. We have absolutely no idea about where that money goes to, what it buys or who it helps. At least that is the case for the majority of charities. Perhaps you should start to take a greater interest in the winding path that your charitable donations take, because many of them may lead to dead ends.
You really should ask the question: will my donation to this charity actually help the people or cause? Sometimes it makes matters worse. For example, many charities help African people install water pumps to deliver clean water to their communities. Money has been invested over the past 20 years to install a total of 60, 000 pumps across sub-Saharan Africa. However, today 40% of those have failed to work at some point. They have been left there, like expensive but useless decorations.
One of the least effective means of giving is when charity sends endless shipping containers full of material goods to underdeveloped nations. For instance, Kenya imports more than 100, 000 tons of clothes from global charities each year. The issue is that these mountains of regularly imported clothes have completely destroyed local textile industries, which have previously supported local economies.
Ultimately, to whom and how much you give is your choice. It is important to provide highly specialized services instead of material goods. As a general rule of thumb, the more your donation matches the need of the receivers, the better it will be for the long-term prosperity of those you want to help.
    8. What do most people do when they donate?
    A. They keep track of their donations.
    B. They neglect the process of charities.
    C. They select products of highest quality.
    D. They do research on application of funds.
    9. Why is the example of water pumps mentioned in paragraph 2?
    A. To stress effective giving. B. To illustrate a fault investment.
    C. To confirm a charitable failure. D. To complain the pumps' quality.
    10. Which view will the author most probably agree with?
    A. Donations should meet local demands.
    B. Ineffective charities must be abandoned.
    C. Material goods can boost textile industry.
    D. Specialized services turn out satisfactory.
    11. Which is the best title for the passage?
    A. Has your donation hit a dead end?
    B. Why should you make a donation?
    C. Where does my donation take its way?
    D. Will my donation to charity really help?
B 9. C 10. A 11. D
根据第一段“When you buy something for yourself, you probably spend hours shopping around for the best deal on the highest quality product. Some of you may even desire to know how a brand operates as a company. However, when we donate money to one of the countless charities out there, most of us don’t conduct such research. We have absolutely no idea about where that money goes to, what it buys or who it helps. At least that is the case for the majority of charities. Perhaps you should start to take a greater interest in the winding path that your charitable donations take, because many of them may lead to dead ends.”(当你为自己买东西的时候,你可能会花几个小时的时间去购买最优质的产品。
根据第二段“You really should ask the question: will my donation to this charity actually help the people or cause? Sometimes it makes matters worse. For example, many charities help African people install water pumps to deliver clean water to their communities. Money has been invested over the past 20 years to install a total of 60, 000 pumps across sub-Saharan Africa. However, today 40% of those have failed to work at some point. They have been left there, like expensive but useless decorations.”(你真的应该问这样一个问题:我对这个慈善机构的捐赠真的能够帮助人们或者事业吗?
根据最后一段“As a general rule of thumb, the more your donation matches the need of the receivers, the better it will be for the long-term prosperity of those you want to help.”(根据一般的经验法则,你的捐赠越符合接受者的需要,对你想帮助的人的长期繁荣就越有利。) 故选A。
根据第二段“You really should ask the question: will my donation to this charity actually help the people or cause?”(你真的应该问这样一个问题:我对这个慈善机构的捐赠真的能够帮助人们或者事业吗?)和最后一段“As a general rule of thumb, the more your donation matches the need of the receivers, the better it will be for the long-term prosperity of those you want to help.”(根据一般的经验法则,你的捐赠越符合接受者的需要,对你想帮助的人的长期繁荣就越有利。)
We may “friend” more people on Facebook, but we have fewer real friends-the kind who would help us out in tough times, listen sympathetically no matter what, lend us money, or keep a secret if we shared one.
___12___ He is a Cornell University sociologist who surveyed more than 2,000 adults and found that from 1985 to 2010, the number of truly close friends has dropped even though we're socializing as much as ever. On average, participants listed 2. 03 close friends in his survey. ___13___ “These are the people you think of as your real friends, your go-to people if you need something," Brashears said.
Brashears asked people online from a database called TESS-Time-Sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences-to list the names of people with whom they had discussed "important matters" over the previous six months. 48 percent of participants listed one close friend when asked, 28 percent listed two and 19 percent listed more. ___14___ He reports the results in the journal Social Networks.
___15___ Brashears said his survey can't tell us conclusively (确定地), but his guess is that while we meet just as many people as we used to, we sort them differently.
Does that suggest we're more isolated in these times when we seem to meet more people online than in person? Social scientists say Facebook may actually be healthy for us. Keith Hampton from the University of Pennsylvania wrote a report. “Internet, or Facebook users have more close relationships than other people. They get more overall social support than other people. ___16___” wrote Hampton in his blog post.
But online contact and personal contact are different. While Hampton reports we know more people because of Face-book, Brashears reports there are fewer whom we choose to trust with our most intimate worries.
    A. What's the reason behind them?
    B. What's the meaning of the survey?
    C. That's the conclusion made by Matthew Brashears.
    D. The report reflected issues behind the phenomenon.
    E. At the same time, a little more than 4 percent didn't list anyone.
    F. Compared with 3 in a previous study, the number was down by one point.
    G. And in particular they report more emotional support and companionship.
C 13. F 14. E 15. A 16. G
空格后说“He is a Cornell University sociologist who surveyed more than 2,000 adults and found that from 1985 to 2010, the number of truly close friends has dropped even though we're socializing as much as ever.(他是康奈尔大学(Cornell University)的一名社会学家,他调查了2000多名成年人,发现从1985年到2010年,尽管我们的社交活动一如既往,但真正亲密的朋友的数量却在减少。)”,因此空格处会提到一个人,C选项“That's the conclusion made by Matthew Brashears.(这是Matthew Brashears得出的结论。)”
空格前说“the number of truly close friends has dropped even though we're socializing as much as ever. On average, participants listed 2. 03 close friends in his survey.(尽管我们的社交活动一如既往,但真正亲密的朋友的数量却在减少。在他的调查中,参与者平均列出了2.03个亲密的朋友。) ”,F选项“Compared with 3 in a previous study, the number was down by one point.(与之前的研究中的3个相比,这个数字下降了1个百分点。)”
空格前说“48 percent of participants listed one close friend when asked, 28 percent listed two and 19 percent listed more.(48%的参与者列出了一个亲密的朋友,28%列出了两个,19%列出了更多。)”,E选项“At the same time, a little more than 4 percent didn't list anyone.(与此同时,略多于4%的人没有列出任何人。)”
空格后说“Brashears said his survey can't tell us conclusively (确定地), but his guess is that while we meet just as many people as we used to, we sort them differently.(Brashears说他的调查并不能给我们决定性的答案,但他的猜测是,虽然我们遇到的人和过去一样多,但我们对他们的分类却不同。) ”,这是在解释原因,A选项“What's the reason behind them?(他们背后的原因是什么?)”
空格前说“Internet, or Facebook users have more close relationships than other people. They get more overall social support than other people.(互联网或Facebook用户的人际关系比其他人更亲密。他们比其他人得到更多的社会支持。)”,G选项 “And in particular they report more emotional support and companionship.(特别是他们报告了更多的情感支持和陪伴。)”

When I was a kid about twelve years old, I had a lot of freckles(雀斑). I had reached the age when I had begun to really look at myself in the mirror, and I was overwhelmed. Apparently my mother was too, because sometimes she’d look at me and shake her head.
I had a cousin whose name was Janette Elizabeth. She looked exactly like her name sounds because she had a flawless peaches-and-cream complexion (肤色). I couldn’t help comparing myself with her and thinking that my life would be a lot different if I had beautiful skin too.
And then, in the back pages of Janette Elizabeth’s magazine, I found the answer: an advertisement for freckle-remover cream. I knew that I could afford it if I saved my money, and I did. The ad assured me that the product would work well. For three weeks I went to the mailbox every day precisely at the time the mail was delivered. I knew that if someone else in my family got the mail, I would never hear the end of it. There was no way that they would let me open the box in private.
Three weeks later, my package finally came. I went to my room with it, sat on the edge of my bed, and opened it. I was sure that I was looking at a miracle. When I got up the next morning, I applied the cream all over my body. Then I took my hoe (锄头) and went with my brother and cousins to hoe the field, where I got rid of some tiger lilies (虎百合), seemingly ugly with black and small spots.
The sun was so strong that even my face started to bum. By the end of the day, when I came back to the house, my family, knowing nothing about the freckle-remover cream, began to say things like “I’ve never seen you with that many freckles before.” When I saw myself in the mirror, I found my freckles even darker and clearer. I dissolved into tears and hid in the bathroom.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
My mother called me to the dinner table, but I ignored her.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After what seemed a century, I heard a gentle knock on my bedroom’s door.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My mother called me to the dinner table, but I ignored her. When she came to the bathroom door and demanded that I come out and have a meal, I burst out of the door, tears streaming down my cheeks. Before she stopped me, I stormed into my room and slammed the door shut behind me. Looking into the mirror, I saw a girl with more and darker freckles on the face instead of peaches-and-cream complexion. Only then did I realize that the cream had a reverse effect when wearing it in the sun. I threw myself down on the bed and sobbed.
After what seemed a century, I heard a gentle knock on my bedroom’s door. Hesitating for a moment, with puffy eyes and still wet cheeks, I shuffled across the room to open the door. At the door stood my mother and Janette with a big bunch of tiger lilies, which were covered with black spots but amazingly beautiful. I stared at them in stunned surprise, not knowing what to say. My mother held me in her warm embrace. “There are all kinds of flowers, and they are all beautiful and sweet,” said she. Hearing this, and smelling the fragrance of the tiger lilies, the freckles on my face seemed to have magically faded.
