When summer ends and autumn comes, people feel cold and start to wear more clothes. But when winter ends and spring comes, people may not feel as cold. The truth is that the temperature in autumn and spring is the same. But it seems that people feel colder in autumn than in spring. Why is that?
This may have something to do with how our bodies get used to(习惯于) the cold. Scientists studied people who work in cold temperatures. They found that their bodies get better at tolerating (忍受) the cold over time. For example, fishermen work long hours with their hands in cold water. The temperature of their hands is higher than that of other people’s hands. It is the same for workers who handle(处理) cold meat.
Our bodies experience cold all winter long. They get used to the cold and gradually warm up. They will not feel that cold day by day. So when winter ends and spring comes, we don’t feel too cold, an expert on cold weather told The New York Time.
11.Why do people seem to feel colder in autumn than in spring?
A.Because their bodies don’t get used to the cold.
B.Because it’s warm in spring.
C.Because it’s cold in autumn.
12.In Paragraph 2, how does the writer show the result of the study?
A.By giving examples. B.By telling a story. C.By comparing numbers.
13.What does the underlined word “gradually” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Quickly. B.Slowly. C.Comfortably.
14.According to the text, which of the following is NOT TRUE?
A.Our bodies get used to cold temperatures over time.
B.The temperature in autumn is different from that in spring.
C.The temperature of other people’s hands is lower than that of fishermen’s.
15.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Difference between Autumn and Spring.
B.Don’t Believe Our Bodies.
C.Getting Used to the Cold.

(2021·江苏·盱眙县教师发展管理中心研训部八年级期末)Some people like travelling in their spare time, and they can enjoy beautiful views. My hometown is such a beautiful city that a number of visitors come to my city for a visit. There are delicious food to eat, and they also can watch colorful peacocks (孔雀) here, but recently I find some problems about the peacocks.
The peacocks mostly live on the grass land of Dongfeng Square. They are given food freely by visitors. They usually throw food to them, and don’t think about whether the food is right or not. Some of the peacocks became ill, some even died after eating the bad food given by the visitors.
I’m sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like the birds, but don’t realize (意识到) that they may be doing harm to them.
The visitors should be told that what they have done is very harmful to the birds, and this kind of thing must be stopped from happening.
Perhaps we can build some small shops beside Dongfeng Square to sell peacock food. My teachers often tell me that it is everyone’s duty to give more love to these beautiful birds. I am willing to share the beautiful views with visitors and let’s look after peacocks carefully together.

(2020·河南·南阳市第三中学八年级期末)Clothes are important and necessary to us, but do you know how to choose suitable clothes in a correct way? Here are some ideas for you.
When you go shopping and want to buy some clothes, you should think about which kind of clothes you really need and decide how much money you can spend on them. Then look at the labels that are inside the new clothes. They tell you how to take care of the clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash it in cold water. The label on a coat may say “dry clean only” and cleaning in water may ruin (损坏) this coat. If you do as the directions say on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best.
Many clothes today must be dry-cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, you had better check if they need to be dry-cleaned. You can save money if you buy clothes that can be washed or that are well-made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good even after they have been washed many times.
Clothes that cost more money don’t always mean they are better made. They may not fit you, either. On the other hand, less expensive clothes may sometimes look better and fit you well.

A.to know how to wash them B.to 1ook for well-made clothes

(2021·江苏东台·八年级期末) During the novel corona-virus outbreak(新冠病毒疫情) we wear masks(口罩) to keep us safe. But many of you may have a problem-you can’t eat when you wear a mask. Now an Israeli company has invented(发明) a kind of mask that you can wear while eating.
The mask has a remote-control mouth. You just need to push down a lever to open a slot in the front of the mask so that you can eat the food. When you take out your eating utensil(餐具), it will close.
The company says the mask can protect people from the virus while they eat. It plans to start selling the mask in the coming months at a price of ¥6-20 higher than that of a regular medical mask.
People have different opinions about the mask. John says it’s a must-have because it helps him to eat while staying safe. But Ron thinks it won’t work when he eats ice cream. He doesn’t want to wear it because the mask will get dirty. But it is fine for solid(固体的) foods like meat.
Besides this kind of mask, people create some other cool inventions during these days. For example, a Chinese company invented a fever-catching helmet(头盔). It can catch people with fevers from up to five meters away. At the same time, it can show the person’s name and medical history, and send this information to nearby hospitals. (2020·四川·大英县教育科学研究所八年级期末) There are some easy things you can do to protect(保护) the environment and the earth. Choose ideas from the list or come up with a few of your own.
●Plant flowers, grass or trees.
●Whenever you visit a park or beach, take away what you bring there—keep rubbish(垃圾) in a bag until you can put it in a dustbin(垃圾桶).
●Turn off the lights, TV sets when you leave the room. This saves a lot of electricity.
●Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. You can save some water by not letting it run. Also, use a glass cup instead of a paper cup because this saves paper.
●Keep the doors and windows closed in winter to keep warm air in.
●Give your old books and magazines to a library instead of throwing them away.
●Give your old clothes to poor children you know instead of throwing them away.
●Use both sides of paper.
●Stop pouring dirty water into the rivers or the lakes nearby.
●Encourage all your friends to do the same things you do to help protect the earth.
You don’t have to wait until Earth Day to do these things. Make every day Earth Day.
If everyone makes a contribution (贡献)to protecting the environment, the world will become much more beautiful.
