(2020·江苏·无锡)When you hear Westerners (西方人) say “ Drop in anytime” (随时来玩) or “Come and see me soon”, you should realize that it doesn’t mean you are welcome to come over to their house anytime. It’s wise to telephone before visiting someone.
Never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go. You may refuse by saying, “Thank you for inviting me, but I may not be able to come.” If you are unable to come after accepting the invitation, be sure to tell those who invite you in advance (提前) that you will not be there.
When you have accepted the invitation to a party or a dinner, it is polite to bring small gifts with you, such as bottles of drink, flowers and chocolate. Sometimes Westerners may take you out to dinner in a restaurant and it does not necessarily mean that he is going to pay the bill at the end of the meal. He might want you to “go Dutch”, which means each person pays his own bill.

(2020·江苏·无锡)Most of us believe that our parents will always be there for us. But this is not the case for “left-behind” children (留守儿童). Their parents work in cities, leaving them behind in the countryside to be cared for by their grandparents.
As of August, China had 6.97 million left-behind children, accounting for (占据) about ⅓ of all rural (农村的) children. With Spring Festival arriving, Ministry of Civil Affairs is calling on migrant (外出打工的民工) parents to return home and celebrate the new year with their kids.
In fact, children living without their parents can face many problems in terms of their education, safety and mental (心理的) health.
For example, their grandparents may not be able to help them with their homework or raise them properly. This can result in children having an unsociable (孤僻的) personality, according to Workers’ Daily.
The government has taken some action to care for and protect left-behind children, such as sending social workers to rural areas. They will report to the government if they find that any left-behind children are suffering from (遭受) abuse (虐待), China Daily noted.
But the best way is to bring their parents back. The government has encouraged migrant workers to return to their rural hometowns to look for work. Another solution is to make it easier for rural children to attend urban schools in the cities, People’s Daily noted.
Some of the government’s efforts have paid off. The number of left-behind children has dropped by 22.7 percent from 9.02 million last year, according to Xinhua.

(2020·江苏·无锡)Libraries give kids a quiet and safe place to read and learn. For over 100 years, libraries have played an important role in Americans’ education. But how are these book-filled buildings changing with the times? You may be surprised to find out.
Benjamin Franklin famously founded (创建) America’s first lending library in 1731. But the public library system (系统) got its biggest development in the American history in the late 1800s. Businessman Andrew Carnegie donated millions of dollars to help build free public libraries across the country. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie’s donations helped build 1,679 new libraries.
Carnegie believed that libraries could offer the chances to Americans, young and old. He knew that the more libraries there were, the more people would have opportunities to read and use books, speeches and news.
If you can easily find a public library in your community (社区), you’ll get more chances. After all, the United States has 9,225 public libraries. Today, libraries keep growing. Seven tenths of the libraries have free Internet. It provides much more information and opportunities (机会) to ask for jobs online.
Libraries are also teaching kids about the fun of reading. The new program Read! Build! Play! adds reading into playtime. As kids listen to a book that is being read aloud, they use Legos (乐高积木) to build images (图像) from the story happily. Today’s libraries are always looking for creative programs to bring people into the library.

(2021·江苏无锡)When I got to school today, everybody was acting all strange around me, and at first I didn’t know what was up. Then I remembered: I still had the Cheese Touch from last year. I got the Cheese Touch in the last week of school, and over the summer I forgot about it.

The problem with the Cheese Touch is that you’ve got it until you can pass (传递) it on to someone else. But nobody would even like to get close to me and talk to me. Every time they saw me, they screamed “Ah~ Greg Heffley is coming!” I knew the Cheese Touch would stick with me for the whole school year. Luckily, a new kid named Jeremy Pindle was in the classroom, so I passed the Cheese Touch to him.

My first class was Maths, and the teacher put me right next to Alex Aruda, the cleverest kid in the whole class. If the kids’ last names start with the first few letters (字母) of the alphabet (字母表), the teacher will call them most, and that’s why they end up being the cleverest. Some people think that’s not true, but I can prove it. You see the picture on the left? Alex Aruda is a top student, while Christoper Ziegel is different.

I can only think of one kid. He broke the last-name rule, and that’s Peter Uteger. Peter was the cleverest kid in the class all the way up until the fifth grade.
When we kept saying his initials (首字母) out loud, it sounded funny. This gave Peter a difficult time.
These days, Peter doesn’t put up his hand at all, and he’s pretty much a C student. I feel a little bad about the whole P.U. thing and what happened to Peter.
17.If someone gets the Cheese Touch, _____________.
    A.he is dangerous to others
B.others may keep away from him
C.he should pass it on to someone else
D.it will stick with him for the whole school year
18.What does the word “prove” mean in Paragraph 3?
    A.证明 B.质疑 C.修改 D.撤回
19.What did Peter Uteger think of those kids when they kept saying “P.U.!” out loud?
A.Active but strange. B.Noisy and impolite.
C.Humorous but impolite. D.Crazy and impatient.
20.What can you infer (推断) from the passage?
A.Peter Uteger broke the class rule in the fifth grade.
B.The kids in the class don’t play with Jeremy Pindle now.
C.Christoper Ziegel is among the cleverest kids in the class.
D.Jeremy Pindle got the Cheese Touch in the last week of school.

There are delicious food to eat, and they also can watch colorful peacocks (孔雀) here, but recently I find some problems about the peacocks.

The visitors should be told that what they have done is very harmful to the birds, and this kind of thing must be stopped from happening.

(2021·江苏盐城)During the novel corona-virus outbreak(新冠病毒疫情) we wear masks(口罩) to keep us safe. But many of you may have a problem-you can’t eat when you wear a mask. Now an Israeli company has invented(发明) a kind of mask that you can wear while eating.

(2020·江苏南京)For most of us, 2020 is hard. We have lost some great men. The 41-year-old basketball legend (传奇人物) lost his life in a plane crash on January 26, 2020. However, when it rains, it pours. Football superstar Maradona died of heart disease at the end of 2020.
If there is one thing in life that we could choose not to experience (经历), it is the death (死亡 ) of someone we love. Losing a friend or family member is heartbreaking and hard to accept, but how we deal with it, and how we move on, is different from person to person.
Everyone has to face death, but sometimes we feel the passing of a loved one has come too soon. At first, we may feel sad. Though we may try our best to accept the fact, it’s natural that the sadness will still last a while.
When someone dies, we may put on a brave face and hide our feelings. But experts say that this is the time to talk about feelings. There’s nothing wrong with trying to keep the memory of the dead alive. You can talk to them in your head, write them a letter or share memories with other people who knew them.
At last, the pain (痛苦) will disappear slowly. But the memories of that person and the times we spent together can stay with us forever, and talking about them and expressing your feelings will work. But as singer and songwriter Patti Smith told the BBC: “Loss is something that we never get over.”

    (2020·江苏南京)
Most of us know about fires, earthquakes, droughts and floods. But from time to time, Mother Nature surprises us, and brings a terrible weather event (事件).Here are some examples of unusual weather.
Strange rain: One day in 2005, people in a small town in Serbia looked out their windows and saw an unusual sight. It was raining frogs! Without any warning (提醒), they found the streets full of small animals jumping about. “There were thousands of them,” someone said. “I thought maybe a plane carrying frogs exploded (爆炸),” said another. Scientists believe the tornado passed over the lake, lifted the frogs into the air, and then dropped them in a remote Serbian town.
Tornadoes (strong windstorms moving in a circle) of Fire: Tornadoes don’t seem to be dangerous enough, but some of them can be made of fire. When a wildfire reaches very high temperatures, it causes the air to become hot and to rise. Cooler air rushes in to replace (替代) hot air. This causes strong winds. These winds suck away (吸走) burning plants and even the fire itself. When this happens, just as it did in Denver on March 14, 2014, a tornado of fire was produced. This tornado can be up to 15 meters wide and up to 40 stories high.
Great Balls of Ice: In 1942, hundreds of thousands of years  skeletons (骨骼) were found under the ice of Lake Roopkund in the Himalayas. Many had holes in their skulls (头盖骨). But they weren’t hurt in any other way. Scientists thought the people must have been hit from above. But for years, they haven’t found out the cause of their deaths.
Today, scientists think these people were killed by giant hailstones—balls of ice. The blocks of ice grew bigger and bigger and turned into hail, until(直到) the wind couldn’t lift them and the hail fell to the ground, often at a speed (速度) of over 160 kilometres an hour. Unlucky people at Lake Roopkund had nowhere to run away, so they were all killed by the hailstones.
51.Which one is TRUE about the frogs raining down in Serbia?
A.They fell out of an airplane that exploded.
B.They grew in the clouds and then fell down to Earth.
C.A heavy rain brought the frogs from a town far away.

Before an earthquake. It is necessary to prepare yourself and your family. All family members should know how to turn off gas, water and electricity (电) and know useful telephone numbers (doctor, hospital, police and 119 etc.). Never put heavy things over beds.

The purpose is to protect yourself from falling things. Stay away from windows, large mirrors, heavy furniture and so on. If you are cooking, turn off the gas. If you are outdoors, move to an open area like a playground. Move away from buildings, bridges            and trees. If you are driving, stop the car as soon as possible, staying away from bridges and tall buildings, stay in your car.
After an earthquake. Once the shaking has stopped, DO NOT run out of the building at once. It is better to wait and leave when it is safe. Check around you and help the people who are in trouble. (2021·江苏·沭阳县)Reading is a good habit, but the problem is, there is too much to read these days, and too little time to read every word of it. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills that I think are very good.
Preview—if it is long and hard. Previewing is very useful for getting a general (笼统的) idea of heavy reading like long magazine articles and business reports.
    Here is how to preview.
Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
Previewing does not give you all the information. It keeps you from spending time on things you don’t really want or need to read.
Skim(略读)—if it is short and easy. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading like popular magazines or the sports and entertainment of your everyday paper.
    Here is how to skim.
Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep them across each line.
Pick up only a few key words in each line.
Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same article, but we will get a similar idea of what it is all about.

(2021·江苏·沭阳县)Many parts of China had heavy rains and serious floods this year. It made us think back to the time in 1998 when the worst floods happened.
Hubei got better after the fight against COVID-19. Just weeks after that, Hubei tried its best to face up to the heavy floods. Many other places had the same problem. For example, the flood problem in Hubei’s neighbouring provinces of Jiangxi and Anhui was also serious. Quite a lot of people came to the Yangtze River area to help build dikes (堤坝) to fight the floods.
The worrying fact is that heavy rains and floods are becoming so common (常见的) , not only in Asia but also in other parts of the world. Heavy rains and floods aren’t the only serious natural disasters. Cyclones, serious droughts (干旱) , and quickly melting ice cover in the Arctic and Antarctic are all very common now.
This madness of nature is called climate (气候) change. China is one of the first countries to get to know the bad results of climate change. It is doing a lot of things to fight it, such as cutting pollution and creating a greener environment. However, one country’s power (力量) is limited. It needs the whole world to work together.
It’s up to us humans to decide how the world will develop in the future. Let’s play a part in the fight against climate change by building a green world together.
77.The first two paragraphs mainly tell us ________.
A.the floods this year were serious
B.it’s important to think back often
C.COVID-19 is more serious than floods
D.we should do something to fight COVID-19
78.What is the third paragraph mainly about?
    A.The most worrying natural disaster.
    B.Natural disasters around the world.
C.The results of different kinds of disasters.
D.Different kinds of ways to save the earth.
79.What does the underlined word “limited” mean?
    A.Magic. B.Friendly. C.Popular. D.Small.
80.The writer asks us to ________.
A.find out the reasons for floods
B.go green to fight climate change
C.pay a visit to Hubei and Jiangxi more often
D.learn more about the bad results of COVID-19

(2021·江苏·扬州市广陵区教师发展中心八年级期末)If you need to call your parents but your phone is not with you, can you remember their numbers?
To remember a series of numbers is not that difficult. However, many of us are losing this ability because of the smartphone. What’s more, smartphones weaken our skills at giving directions, as well as killing face-to-face conversations. Even when friends are having a meal together, it’s common for most of them to check their phones from time to time.
According to a report by Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, an American company, Chinese people spend about 170 minutes on their smartphones daily.
Many students are addicted to using smartphones. It does no good to their study. Research by Japan’s Education Ministry showed children who spend more than four hours a day on their phones get much lower scores in school test than those who play with their phones for less than 30 minutes.
It’s true that the smartphone has made our lives easier. But many also think people spend too much time on it, and this is bad for their study or work. People are trying to change that.
A new app called Forest was introduced this month. It lets users plant a seed that grows into a tree over the next 30 minutes. Within the half hour, users cannot use their phones, or the tree will die.
A restaurant in Los Angeles, US, gives people a 5% discount if they don’t check their phones when they are having a meal. The owner of the restaurant Mark Gold said he hopes it gives people a way to enjoy their meal and actually talk with their friends and family in person.

(2021·江苏·扬州市广陵区教师发展中心八年级期末)The King and Queen of Hearts were seated on their throne when Alice arrived. In the very middle of the court was a table with a large dish of tarts.
Alice had never been in a court (法庭) before but took pride that she knew so much about it from her studies. She knew there was the judge and the jury box.
“Herald!” cried the King. “Read the charges.”
The White Rabbit stood up and opened a piece of paper. He cleared his throat and read:
The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts,
    All on a summer day:
The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts,
    And took them quite away.
“Call the first witness!” said the King impatiently.
The first witness was the Hatter. He came in with a teacup in one hand and a piece of bread and butter in the other. “I beg your pardon, Your Majesty,” he began, “for bringing this into the court. But I hadn’t quite finished my tea when I was sent for.”
The Queen put on her glasses and looked angrily at the Hatter. The Hatter’s face turned white.
“Give your evidence(证据),” said the King, “and don’t be nervous or I will have you killed right here.” This did not seem to calm the Hatter at all. He shook hard and bit a large piece out of his teacup instead of the bread and butter.
“I’m a poor man, Your Majesty,” said the Hatter, “I hadn’t but just begun my tea. Not above a week or so. After that, I cut some more bread and butter.”
“If that’s all you know about it, you may go,” said the King.
The Hatter left the court in a hurry without even waiting to put on his shoes.
“Just take his head off outside,” the Queen said to one officer. But the Hatter was already out of sight.
“Call the next witness!” said the King.

(2021·江苏·扬州市广陵区教师发展中心八年级期末)Height is just one of the thousands of features your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you with a height that usually lands somewhere between the heights of your parents. If both your parents are tall, then most probably you will be tall, too. If you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.
But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential (潜力). Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected height.
Maybe you’re wondering how fast you should grow. It depends. There’s no right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about two inches (six centimeters) a year between age three and the time when they start puberty.
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the year. Two centimeters here and two inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.
Don’t be nervous if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt (高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later, between 7 and 13 for girls and between 9 and 15 for boys.
You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year or so after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.
92.How can we know how tall we will be?
A.You should have a healthy diet. B.You can ask your doctor for help.
C.You should have enough exercise. D.You can record your growth during puberty.
93.The underline word ‘puberty’ means ________ in Chinese?
    A.童年时期 B.婴幼儿时期 C.习惯养成期 D.生长发育期
94.Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A.Your body may be going through other changes when you are growing taller.
B.You should go to a doctor when you have grown a lot in a short time.
C.Boys are always taller than their parents when they grow up.
D.Girls start their puberty much earlier than boys do.
95.This passage is mainly about ________.
A.why the genes are important B.how fast your growth can be
C.why you look like your parents D.how tall you are going to be

    二、阅读填表(共0分)
    (2020·江苏·无锡)先通读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,在文章后表格的空格内填入一个最恰当的单词。每个空格只能填一个单词。
Many animal lovers would like to do more to help animals, but aren’t sure where to start or feel like they just don’t have the time. The good news is that there are many simple things you can do to help protect animals.
    Think twice before you decide
Try eating a vegetarian (素食的) diet. If you aren’t ready to make this change, there are still things you can do. You can’t buy animal products from companies known to use practices that go against the law such as using drugs (毒品) to increase milk production (生产) in cows.
    Help get the word out
Getting the word out about the problems faced by animals can be as easy as putting up a notice on your car. Also, talk to your friends and family members about important things that are related to animals. Give some simple advice to a friend with a new pet about the serious pet over-population (人口) problem we’re facing. Turn to some books if you are not so clear about the advice you give to your friend.
    Write a letter
If a company has practices or rules that are harmful to animals, write them a letter to let them know you are angry about them, and that you won’t buy their products until they make some changes. Write letters to state and local legislators (立法者) to let them know how important it is that they support legislation that protects animals.
    Be more loving
If you’re thinking about adding a dog or a cat to your family, think about getting one from a homeless-animal house. You’d better not buy a pet. There are many wonderful animals just waiting for a home. By taking back an animal from there, you will be helping in the fight against pet over-population, as well as giving your money to those who are responsible for taking care of animals.
Take action to protect them by yourself
It may sound simple, but one of the best ways to help animals is to let your actions speak to the world. You should do the following things first by yourself. Treat all living creatures (生物) with respect (尊重). Care about your pets and look after them well. Never go to entertainment (娱乐) places that use animals to perform (表演). Support laws that protect animals. All of these things set an example for others to follow.

A whooping crane is a large white North American crane famous for its loud call.
You may weigh more than a whooping crane, but maybe you aren’t taller than one! Whooping cranes can grow up to five feet tall. It makes them the tallest birds in North America. But even as tall as they are, whooping cranes weigh only about 15 pounds, because of their hollow (空心的) bones.
    WHAT’S FOR DINNER?
Whooping cranes live in wetlands, wet prairies, and fields. They’re not picky (挑剔的) about their meals—they have a mixed diet and eat small fish, and insects, as well as grains and marsh plants.
    CALL OF THE WILD
Whooping cranes really like to ‘whoop it up’ when they want to attract a mate (伙伴). They call loudly and do what might look like a crazy dance to be eye—catching. They flap their wings, and move their heads from side to side quickly, jumping up and down.
    A SPECIAL TRICK
These cranes are in danger, but scientists have used some very interesting tricks to help them stay alive. At first, they moved one group of cranes to Florida, but the cranes never learned to migrate (迁徙). When they got to Florida, they didn’t know how to fly back home. Scientists did all they could do to make the number of the cranes larger, so they used a special trick with another Florida group of cranes. Scientists “taught” the younger cranes to migrate by having them follow a very light airplane from Florida to Wisconsin. After the cranes gave birth to their babies in Florida, they’d follow the plane back to Wisconsin!
Some whooping cranes stay in Florida all year round, some fly from Florida to Wisconsin, and others fly from Texas to Canada and back again each year.

    三、阅读回答问题(共0分)
(2021·江苏·盱眙县)There are many wetlands in China and some of them have become the world’s important wetlands.
The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home for many different kinds of animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve is in them. More than 700 Milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Crane Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.
The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife. Offering (提供) food and home for some special kinds of animals is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and less space for wildlife.
Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize that we should protect the wetlands as soon as possible. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.

(2021·江苏盐城)Many years ago, in a small Indian village, a farmer owed(欠) a lot of money to a village moneylender. The moneylender was old and ugly, but he liked the farmer’s beautiful daughter. So he said that the farmer didn’t need to pay off the debt(债务) if he could marry the farmer’s daughter.
Both the farmer and his daughter were frightened. So the moneylender suggested that they let God decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble(鹅卵石) and a white pebble into an empty bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.
If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father’s debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble, she wouldn’t need to marry him and her father’s debt would still be forgiven. If she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into prison.
They were standing on a pebble-strewn path in the farmer’s field. As they talked, the moneylender picked up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.
The girl put her hand into the bag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she let it fall onto the path which was full of pebbles. So it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.
"Oh, how clumsy(笨拙的) of me!" she said. "But never mind, if you look into the bag for the left one, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked."
The moneylender didn’t let them know his dishonesty. The girl needn’t marry the moneylender and her father was free of debt now.
