(2022·江苏南京)Many Westerners have the assumption(假设) that everyone in China knows how to do kung fu. This is, of course, a silly belief. But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.
Like most people from the West, I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films. Stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The flashy(炫酷的) and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble In The Bronx and Enter The Dragon made them household names in the US and elsewhere.
However, my own personal interest in kung fu was actually inspired by a hip-hop group. Wu-Tang Clan(“武当派’’), founded in the early 1990s in New York City, is one of the most influential(有影响力的) hip-hop groups in history.
In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts(哲学理念) that come from wudang quan—the style of Chinese martial arts from which they take their name—and the Shaolin Monastery. I was just a teenager when I first started listening to Wu-Tang Clan—little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!
I myself do not practice kung fu. However, the concepts behind it are quite interesting to me. There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I’m struggling with challenges in life. Be formless...shapeless, like water,” he once said. By this, he meant that you should be ready to adapt(调整) and change your attitudes or beliefs when you face difficulties. I think this is a good way to deal with life.
3.What makes the writer interested in Kung fu?
    A.Famous Hong Kong action films.
B.A Chinese friend in New York City.
    C.A hip-hop group called Wu-Tang Clan.
D.Film stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
4.What can we learn about Wu-Tang Clan according to the passage?
A.It isn’t influenced by Chinese culture.
B.It was founded in the early 1990s in New York.
C.It makes kung fu quite popular in the Western world.
D.It is one of the most popular hip-hop groups in China.
5.In the writer’s opinion, which may be a good way to deal with life?
A.Practice Kung fu to relax yourselves.
B.Be ready to take on new challenges anytime.
C.Listen to Wu-Tang Clan when you feel stressed.
D.Change your attitudes or beliefs when facing difficulties.

When Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre in 1847, she chose a strong woman character. At this time in history, women were thought to be very emotional beings(感情冲动的生物). They were only suitable as wives or teachers. Bronte wanted to show a different side of women.
In the novel, Jane is a poor, quiet orphan who has to live with her aunt and cousins. They are very strict with her and treat her awfully. Her cousin John in particular hates her. After one serious fight with him, Jane is sent to a strict boarding school. There she discovers her love for learning although she’s treated in the cruel way. When she turns 18, she leaves the school. She is asked to go to Thornfield Hall to educate a little French girl named Adele. She is the ward(受监护人) of the master of the house named Mr. Rochester. He is a very wealthy and mysterious man. At first Jane does not like Mr. Rochester. She finds him moody and unkind. But they start to grow closer and eventually fall in love. Mr. Rochester wants to marry Jane, and she accepts.
Their wedding day is anything but happy. It is said that Rochester is already married. He does not love the woman, Bertha, who is mad. But to keep her out of a mental hospital, he keeps her in a room of Thornfield Hall. Jane feels sad about that and runs away from Thornfield. She walks slowly around for days without food or money. She is finally taken in by two cousins, Diana and Mary, and their unfeeling older brother St. John.
He finds Jane a job as a teacher in a nearby village. St John decides to go to India as a missionary(传教士) and asks Jane to accompany him as his wife. Jane does not love St. John, so she refuses. One night she hears Mr. Rochester’s voice calling to her. She hurries back to Thornfield Hall only to discover it has been burned to the ground. Bertha loses her life during the fire, and Mr. Rochester loses his sight. She seeks him out, and they rebuild their relationship. They get married, have a son and live happily ever after.

B.Bertha loses her life in order to save Rochester from a big fire.

D.Jane falls in love with Rochester when she teaches a girl named Adele.
    8.What’s the purpose passage?

(2022·江苏南京)When we see babies or pets, we can’t help gently touching them to show our love. And they give us happy feelings back. But a recent study shows that it’s different for plants.
A study, published in The Plant Journal, shows that plants don’t “like” to be touched. That’s because touching changes their genes (基因) and, even worse, can slow their growth.
Professor Jim Whelan of the La Trobe Institute in Australia gave an explanation. “The lightest touch from a human, animal, insect, or even plants touching each other in the wind, leads to a huge gene change in the plant,” Science Daily reported.
In order to test the theory, the scientists did an experiment on plants. They grew a number of plants to the age of four weeks. Then they touched them with a paintbrush every 12 hours over a 36-hour period.
They found that as a response to the touch, the mitochondria (线粒体) in the plants had been partly destroyed. The mitochondria, as Science Alert noted, are the “powerhouse of the cell. The mitochondria produce energy for the rest of the cell in both animals and plants.
If this “powerhouse” is weakened, the plants will lose a large amount of energy that should have supported their growth.
Whelan further explained to Science Daily, “If the touching is repeated, then plant growth is reduced by up to 30 percent.”
Although the process does have a strong effect on plants, usually the plants survive. Touching changes the plants, but it’s not necessarily a bad change.
According to Science Alert, frequent touching or moving plants will make them grow shorter than other ones.
The researchers believe this change, in some ways, could be helpful. It may help plants fight threats to their health such as insects and bad weather.
The new research findings have led to a deeper understanding of the plants’ response to touching. And the research might “open up new ways to reduce sensitivity (敏感性) and optimize (优化) growth in the future”, Science Alert reported.
9.Why don’t plants like to be touched?
    A.Plants’ genes will be changed.
B.Plants will grow much taller than others.
C.Plants growth will be reduced by up to 40 percent.
D.Plants will lose the ability to fight against bad weather.
10.What does the underlined word “weakened” in Paragraph 6 possibly mean?
    A.Becoming stronger. B.Becoming less strong.
C.Becoming less changeable. D.Becoming more changeable.
11.What can we get from the new research?
A.A new way to increase sensitivity in the future.
B.A totally bad and strong influence on plants’ growth.
C.A wonderful method to help plants grow better and better.
D.A deeper understanding of the plants’ response to touching.

(2022·江苏南京)My mom’s life was a busy one. Raising four kids on her own was a full time job in itself, but she also worked outside the home. Surprisingly, she always seemed to find a little bit of extra time for us despite (不管) her schedule (预定计划).
She would take us over to my aunt’s in the evening when she worked as a waitress in a small diner. We would just be finished with school and have to hurry, so my mom would be on time for work. I thought she would pass us over to our aunt and hurry off as soon as we made it through the front gate, but that didn’t happen. Instead, we would sit on the porch (门廊), my mom in her waitress uniform, and we would rock in my aunt’s big wooden swing (秋千) and talk about what happened that day.
“I learned how to add numbers up to the hundreds,” my sister Sandy would say.
“That’s wonderful,” my mom would reply, holding her tight.
“I learned how to write my name!” Larry, my younger brother, would shout.
My mom would get a piece of paper and a pencil out of her purse and hand it to my brother. “Show me how you do it,” she’d ask softly.
“Do you have enough time to hear what I did today?” I’d ask her.
Mom would smile at me and nod. “I’m never too busy for something important like that!”
She gave us the gift of time again and again throughout the years. Later on in her life, when she came to live with us after her retirement (退休), my mom gave the gift of time to my children too. They would run around excitedly, asking their grandma if she would play with them, or read them a story, or go for a walk with them. By then my mom had health problems, but she would always nod and sit down and read to them or tell them stories about when she was a little girl. Those moments were a wonderful gift that my children still talk about and treasure.
In the last few years of her life, I would take her to lunch or sit with her on the porch, and we would talk about the past, the dream of the future, and just enjoy being with each other. My mom would listen as I shared all of my hopes, my fears, and my dreams for my family. I would look at her and ask her if she minded me taking up so much of her free time.
“Nonsense,” she’d tell me. Then she’d give me a wink and say, “I’m never too busy to spend time with you. It’s one of the greatest joys of my life.”
I will always remember those wonderful words and the loving heart behind them. It is a gift my mom give to me for which I will forever be grateful. In this busy world of ours, and in a life filled with challenges, she always had time to share her joy with me.

Two little boys had two little toys
    Each had a wooden horse.
Joyfully they played each summer’s day
    Soldiers (士兵) both, of course.

(2022·江苏扬州)You may study differently from your friends, but your study habits are not wrong!
Kelly and Maria are best friends with a lot in common. They love doing things together, such as going to movies and concerts, shopping, or just sitting at a small cafe. Since they take a lot of the same school subjects, they would love to study together, but they find this impossible. Their working styles are so completely different that they can’t be in the same room while they are studying!
Kelly would like to study in a clean, open space, while Maria works best with books, papers and other things around her. Kelly prefers to study in a totally silent room, but Maria loves to play music or even have the TV on. Kelly can sit for hours without moving, and often gets all her homework done in one sitting. Maria, however, is always getting up, and says that she thinks best when she’s on the move.
You might be asking yourself: which way of studying gets better results? Many people believe that a silent, tidy setting(环境) is the way to go, ________. Some research has even shown that outside noise and untidiness help some people focus(聚焦) their attention, because it makes them form a “wall” in their mind around what they are doing and improves their focus.
So, if you’re a student who chooses to study while sitting at a table in a busy shopping center, don’t worry about it. If you work in total silence, that’s OK; too. Judging from Kelly’s and Maria’s study habits, the best way to study is the way that works for you. In their very different ways, both of them do well in school, and both finish their work within the required time as well.
19.Kelly and Maria are mentioned as an example in this passage to______.

C.show the importance of a good study habit D.express the writer’s worry about their friendship
20.Which of the following is the best to fill in the blank in Paragraph 4?
A.and they have difficulty in study B.and it can be true for most of them
C.but that doesn’t seem necessarily true D.but nobody does research on this question
21.What can we infer from the last paragraph of this passage?
A.Students who like to study in silence will be more successful
B.Both study habits can help students make progress in their studies.
C.Only a small number of students can study well in a noisy situation.
D.Friends with different study habits can do better by studying together.
22.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Are you studying the “right” way? B.How can you improve your study habits?
C.Is it possible for friends to study well together? D.What are the advantages of different study settings?

(2022·江苏扬州)The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. In China, the 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural production.
Rain Water stands for the increase in rainfall and rise in temperature. With its arrival, lively spring—like scenery starts: the river water melt, wild geese fly from south to north, and trees and grass turn green again.
Here are four things you may not know about Rain Water.
Rain in spring is as precious as oil.
According to an old Chinese saying, the rainfall in spring is as precious as oil. In northern China the spring drought is common and the rain of this season is only 10 to 15 percent of yearly average(平均) rainfall.

    ② The river freezes up.
③ Birds fly to the south in small groups.
    ④Trees are green in color.
    A.①② B.②③ C.①④ D.③④
24.We can infer that Rain Water is a key period for________.
    A.building houses in the countryside
B.providing land or crops with water
C.keeping sheep, horses, hens and other animals
    D.spending all days on farming
25.During Rain Water, it is strongly advised the elderly and children________.
A.not to take off thick clothes too early
B.not to stay up late all night
    C.to exercise more
D.to protect them from the heat

You might have seen beautiful rainbows in the sky before. They form when sunlight falls on water drops in the air. But in fact, moonlight can also create rainbows in the same way. They are called “moonbows”. They are similar to rainbows, but they are created by moonlight instead of direct sunlight.
Moonbows are rarer than rainbows. Different weather and astronomical (天文学的)conditions have to be just right for moonbows to be created.
The moon has to be very low in the sky-only 42 degrees from the horizon (地平线). The moon period has to be a full moon or nearly full. The sky must be very dark for a moonbow to be watched clearly-any bright light can obscure it. Water drops must appear in the air in the opposite direction of the moon.
Moonbows appear on the opposite side of the moon and usually look white to the human eye. This is because their colors are not bright enough to be noticed by the human eye. It is possible, however, to view the colors in a moonbow using long exposure (长时间曝光)photography.
Moonbows more often appear in some locations around the world. Most of these locations usually have waterfalls, which create thin fog in the air. Some of these locations are the Yosemite National Park in California and Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky, US; Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe; and Waimea in Hawaii, US.
Moonbows do really happen. So at a certain time and a certain place, when a moonbow happens to appear, you can’t miss it if you’re right there.
27.According to the first two paragraphs, moonbows are ________.
A.created by sunlight B.much easier to find
C.seen during the day D.more difficult to form
28.Which of the following can be the conditions for a moonbow to form?
A.A half moon hangs high in the bright sky.
B.A full moon is 50 degrees from the horizon.
C.A nearly full moon hangs low in the dark sky.
D.Water drops are in the opposite direction of the sun.
29.What does the underlined word “obscure” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A.cover B.drop C.connect D.produce
30.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.Conditions of moonbows. B.Background of moonbows.
C.Locations of moonbows. D.Development of moonbows.

I’m Jessica, a big fan of James Bond. I’ve got most of the Bond films on DVD.We’ve recently bought Quantum of Solace, in which Daniel Craig plays the role of Bond. I don’t know why the film has got that name—but it’s a great movie, anyway.
All the actors who’ve played James Bond have been great, but Daniel Craig, who’s made lots of other films, plays the role better than any of them. Though he doesn’t talk much, I think he’s the most perfect actor for the role. He even does a few of the more dangerous things in the film himself, instead of getting someone else to do them. I sometimes wondered whether he would be clever to defeat (击败) the bad people—but I’m not going to tell you the ending
The actress who stars with Craig gives a fantastic performance too—I loved all the fashionable clothes she wore!.
The director probably had a hard job making this Bond film as full of action as earlier ones. But the excitement starts just at the beginning, with a car running after another quickly along a mountain road, and plenty of other exciting scenes, too—Bond jumping off tall buildings and so on. However, I found the story difficult to understand, and it also seemed to be over very quickly—it lasted less than two hours. I also felt there weren’t as many jokes as in the old Bond films. And where was all the funny Bond equipment (装备) —the underwater car or exploding watch that everyone laughed at? This is a more serious, darker Bond film, but I still really enjoy it.
34.What can a reader find out from Jessica’s article?
A.What other films Daniel Craig has made.
B.Which other actors have played James Bond.
C.Why she thinks Daniel Craig is the best James Bond.
D.Whether Quantum of Solace is her favourite Bond film.
35.How does Daniel Craig play James Bond in the new Bond film?
A.He has a lot to say to the actress.
B.He himself performs some dangerous action scenes.
    C.He wears some fashionable clothes.
D.He looks strong enough to fight the bad people.
36.What is Jessica trying to do in her article?
A.To tell readers about the Bond DVDs she owns.
B.To explain what first attracted her to Bond films.
C.To give a balanced review of a Bond film she has seen.
D.To describe how Daniel Craig got the role of James Bond.

The law describes personal information as any kind of information about people who are or can be identified. (2022·江苏苏州)“Have you ever heard Louis say good morning and good night to us, as the others do?”
“Since you mention it, I never have,” said the husband. “Goodness! What are you getting at? Do you wish me to believe that I have a son who is dumb in any way? This would worry me. I want everything to go well in my family life. Fatherhood is hard. I do not want the added stress of having a dumb child.”
“Well,” said the wife, “I’ve been watching Louis recently. I think the little guy can’t talk. I’ve never heard him make one sound. I think he came into the world lacking (缺失) a voice. If he had a voice, he’d use it, same as the others do.”
“Why, this is terrible!” said the husband. “This is painful. This is a very serious matter.” His wife looked at him. “It’s not too serious now,” she said. “But it will be serious two or three years from now when Louis falls in love, as he will surely do. A young male swan will be greatly handicapped in finding a mate if he can’t say the usual sweet words to the young female of his choice.”
The husband stood quietly, thinking about what his wife had just told him. He was a brave bird, and already he was beginning to work out a plan for his little son Louis.
“If it’s really true that Louis has no voice,” said the husband to himself, “then I shall provide him with a device (装置) of some kind, to enable him to make a lot of noise. There must be some way out of this difficulty. After all, my son is Trumpeter Swan; he should have a voice like a trumpet (小号). (2022·江苏苏州)Hello, I’m Rob. Welcome to our programme. Today we’re talking about high-speed train travel. Many countries have very fast trains that transport people from city to city in super-quick time. Yes, high-speed train travel is becoming popular. Well, we’ll be finding out why the UK is hoping to do something that is already popular by building a new high-speed rail line.
We know that high-speed train travel has many good things. It helps to take traffic off the road, it causes less pollution, it can move lots of people and it’s quick. Yes, speed is important. Now, the TGV train in France takes about three hours to travel over 750 kilometres from Paris to Marseille in the south - very impressive.
But the UK has been slow to build high-speed rail lines. It has one from London to Paris, but the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, thinks one line is not good enough. People can go from London to Paris on high-speed trains, but can’t go from London to Birmingham. That means you can get to Paris by train more quickly than you can travel to many British cities. The government wants to build another one — called HS2 — connecting London to the middle and north of England.
But not everyone agrees to the plan and there is much discussion. Some say it will be very expensive to build, although some experts(专家)say for every 1 pound spent, it will bring 2 pounds back. There are also worries that some of the countrysides will be destroyed. It could be a long time before a final decision is made. So now we’ll just have to accept that our trains in the UK will carry on at an unhurried speed while we watch with envy as another country’s high-speed train passes us by!
Thank you. We hope you’ve enjoyed today’s programme.

A.It is slow. B.It is expensive. C.It falls behind. D.It becomes popular.

(2022·江苏无锡)How do you treat your books? Do you use a bookmark to avoid folding(折叠)a page and keep your books tidily on a shelf? Or perhaps you pay less attention to their condition — you’re happy to take notes down the margins(页边空白) of a page. What’s your idea — do you think they should always be kept in good condition?
Yes. Books deserve our respect. It is important to care for your books. This is especially true if the book costs a lot of money or is given to you as a present. It also won’t last long if they are damaged(破坏). If a book is full of ripped(撕破的) pages, it is less possible that a friend will want to pick it up and read. If you donate it to a charity shop, it is less possible that someone will buy it. Over time, treating books badly could become a bad habit.
NO. It doesn’t matter if you just read. One of the great things about an actual book is that readers can make it their own with notes. If it’s a gift, you can write a nice message. It can make a book feel personal and special to you. It doesn’t matter if this means that a book isn't in perfect condition — you can always buy a new copy if the old one gets too damaged. In the end, writers just want people to read their stories: they don’t mind how or where people do it.

A.it costs a lot of money B.it is a present

79.Some people think keeping books in good condition is unimportant probably because ________.
A.they like untidy books better than those in good condition B.they would rather buy new copies than read old ones
C.they think books with messages may make people less interested D.they care more about writers’ stories than how books are kept

    二、阅读填表
    (2022·江苏南京)任务型阅读(每空一个单词)
“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” the old saying goes. Unluckily, as a teenager, that is often exactly what you do to yourself. Dark thoughts about your physical appearance can hang over you all the time like a rain cloud. Do I look fat in these jeans? Do others think I am too short? These thoughts can have a negative(消极的) influence on people of any shape or size, both male and female, and it is important to guard against the causes behind them.
Standards of beauty in the media can have a big influence on what you think of your physical appearance. Teens who try to copy the looks of their favourite stars are fighting a losing battle—these standards are simply impossible for most of the population to live up to. They will only end up feeling worse about themselves.
Your friends also influence the way you view your physical appearance. If you have friends who are good-looking or have a great fashion sense, it can feel like you are living in their shadow. For children of digital age, social media makes this problem even worse. Your friends may post a “never ending” series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them. This has proved to have a negative effect on what you think of your physical appearance.
These external influences are always present, but there are certainly ways to deal with them. First of all, be careful not to follow popular beauty standards blindly. They are out of reach for 99% of us, so it is better to just forget about them.
Another tip is to remind yourself that you are unique(独一无二的). Keep in mind that your family and friends love you just the way you are. Talk about your feelings with someone you trust. Focusing on your strength also helps you build your confidence. Everyone has their own talents—you may be good at painting or playing the piano, so take pride in things you do well instead of worrying about things you cannot change.
You may often judge yourself by what is on the outside, not on the inside. However, like a book, your contents are much more important than your cover. If you can learn to see the good things about yourself—your individuality, your value to others, your achievements—you will soon begin to love yourself just the way you are.

Every day, from morning until night, under the hot sun, the slaves picked cotton and put it in their sacks. When they finished, Legree weighed it, and there was whipping for the slaves that didn’t pick enough cotton.
One day a new woman called Cassy started working not far from Tom. Tom noticed that she was very fast. He also noticed an older slave Martha was in pain and slow. Her sack was almost empty. Tom went near Martha, and silently put a lot of his cotton into her sack.
“No, don’t!” said the woman, looking surprised. “They will punish you.”
Just then Sambo arrived, kicked Martha and whipped Tom across his face. “Work faster, you animal!” But when he left, Tom quickly gave her some more of his cotton. Suddenly, the beautiful new woman put a large quantity of cotton in Tom's sack.
“Tom kept putting cotton into Martha’s sack,” Sambo told Legree that night. “Then we’ll have to teach him a lesson,” said Legree. Slowly the tired slaves entered the room for the weighing of the sacks. First Legree weighed Tom’s sack, and it was enough. So was Martha’s. But Legree shouted at her. “You lazy animal! This is not enough!” Then he said to Tom, “I want to give you a better job than picking cotton, take this woman and whip her—you know how.”
“I’m sorry, Master,” said Tom. “I can’t do it.” Legree whipped Tom and hit him with his fists many times. “There!” he said. “Now will you tell me you can’t do it?”
“Yes, Master,” said Tom, with blood running down his face. “I will work night and day, but I will never whip another person.”
“I bought you, and you’re mine, body and soul,” he said, kicking Tom.
“My soul isn’t yours, Master! You can’t buy it!”

Trying to find the perfect present is about as easy as trying to read someone’s mind. Few people will actually tell you what they want for a special occasion and most of the time your loved ones will insist that they don’t need or want anything! So, what to do? Here are some tips that could help.
    Start Early
Starting your shopping early can have many advantages. For example, it gives you enough time to come up with ideas for what you should buy for your friends or family members. Moreover, the closer it gets to holidays, the higher the prices go up. So, save your money by being an early bird.
    Make a List
Here, you can write down everything your friends or family members love. This can include food, hobbies, experiences, and more. Then try to determine how to use this information to find a gift that perfectly suits them. If you are lucky, you should be able to find good ideas in one of these lists.
    Think outside the Box
Often, the reason why you get stuck(卡住)for gift ideas is that you only focus on the same kind of presents. If you are still coming up empty, it is time to get creative. You can find something your friends or family members can use every day. When in doubt, you can simply put smaller presents together to make up a larger, more meaningful gift.
    Gift an Experience
In case you are still feeling a little stuck, go ahead and find something that the two of you can do together. It may be a class, or anything else where you can enjoy each other’s company(陪伴). In short, you will be able to give them the gift of friendship.

What is the most popular body building in 2018? Plogging, which is a mash-up(混合)of jogging and the Swedish (瑞典语)“plocka upp” , meaning pick up, has come into our eyes.
The idea of plogging was created by Erik Ahlstrom, a Swedish. He was surprised by the amount of rubbish there in nature. The same rubbish could remain in the road for several weeks without anyone picking it up. So he made up his mind to do something to change it. He started picking it up. To his surprise, stopping to clean up rubbish became a habit then part of his exercise plan as he put the activity into his runs. By 2016, other people were joining in, and plogging runs became official events in Sweden. They run with trash bags and gloves. After plogging, they will have a competition to see who picks up the most rubbish. Nowadays, plogging has attracted more people to take part in.
According to fitness app Lifesum, which allows users to record calories (卡路里)burned while plogging, plogging bums more calories as it requires some bending (弯腰)and some strength to hold all the rubbish — a half hour of plogging will bum 288 calories on average, compared (与……相 比)to just 235 calories from jogging.
