A new policy(政策) about school education has come out. It brings some changes in students’ everyday life. Let’s have a look.
According to the policy, students in the primary and junior high schools should have a clear time to do their homework. They are supposed to finish their homework in a certain time.
And the homework is neither too difficult nor too much. For example, the first and second graders must finish their homework at school. They needn’t do written homework at home. The third to sixth graders should finish their homework in 60 minutes. The junior high school students are expected to do their homework in 90 minutes.
Besides less homework, schools are required to provide more physical training so that students can learn basic sports skills and become healthier. For example, many schools divide the after-school time into two parts. In the first part, students have one hour of physical exercise each day. In the second part, students can take part in all kinds of interesting activities. The two parts are expected to meet the different needs of students.

Although similar in appearance to hyenas (土狼), African wild dogs are nevertheless true wild canine (犬). They are a mixture of black, yellow, and white in such various patterns that no two individuals look exactly alike. African wild dogs are widely distributed across the African plains but they do not live in jungle areas.
They are social animals, living in groups of usually from 2 to 45 individuals. A hierarchy (等级制度) exists within the group, but the animals are friendly to one another. The young and the weak are given special privileges (特权) within the group.
African wild dogs use their sense of sight, not smell, to find their prey (猎物). They can run up to 55 km/h for several kilometers. In eastern Africa, they mostly hunt Thomson’s gazelles, but they will also attack calves, warthogs, zebras, impalas, and the young of large antelopes such as the gnu.
Growing human populations have decreased or damaged the African wild dog’s habitat and also reduced their available prey. Road kill and human persecution (迫害) have also had a negative impact on African wild dog populations. This species is also susceptible to a variety of diseases such as distemper, which is controlled in domestic dogs. Protection of the African wild dog’s natural habitat must be given great concern, as these dogs suffer in habitats changed much by human intrusion (入侵).

A.Easily affected or suffered. B.Badly doubtful.
    C.Seriously harmful. D.Highly dangerous.
7.What factors affect the population of the wild dogs?
    a. the distribution of the dogs                                        b. social living

Cities are taking an interest in electric scooter-share systems as affordable transportation to cut down on pollution and traffic jams. The electric scooters, which weigh between 30 and 40 pounds, reach speeds of about 15 mph.
In September 2017, Santa Monica, California, became the first U.S. city to have an electric scooter-share service. Users find and unlock one of the more than 1,000 scooters with a smartphone app. A ride costs $1, and then 0.15 cents for each minute of riding throughout the beach town.
Bird, the startup operating the scooter-share, picks up the scooters every night to charge(充电) them, and places them around Santa Monica each morning to be ready for people’s use. The company was created by Travis VanderZanden, who once worked in Uber and Lyft, after he realized ridesharing services failed to help with traffic jams and air pollution. Since its beginning in September 2017, Bird’s system has served more than 50,000 riders who have taken 250,000 trips—more than half of which have been in the last month. It’s since expanded(扩展) into Venice, California, and some neighborhoods in Los Angeles and San Diego. Bird plans to expand into lots of markets by the end of 2018.
Competitors, backed by millionaires, are appearing. Two bike-share startups, LimeBike and Spin, have spoken of plans to provide electric scooters in cities this year.
Electric scooters have also gotten the attention of Mayor Pete Buttigieg from South Bend, Indiana. The city is interested in using them as a way to improve public transportation. South Bend was one of the first to use bike-share systems, which allow people to park shared bikes on public land. “We love to be early pioneers,” said Buttigieg. “If we work out the safety problem, we would be open to welcoming the technology.”
“We need to make sure these new transportation systems are lawful and safe for users,” Constance Farrell, a spokeswoman for the city of Santa Monica told CNN. “We would like to see electric scooters continue to operate in the city. They are in line with our goal of multi-modal living and low-carbon living.” According to Farrell, there have been eight accidents, including one with a serious head injury, in Santa Monica after the scooters were rolled out. Users are required to have a driver’s license(驾照), and shouldn’t ride on sidewalks.
Bird has given out free helmets to some riders and told the users to ride in bike lanes, but some users ride on sidewalks, and most U.S. streets don’t have bike lanes. “The global community of cities is going to have to work out all these problems for scooters,” Buttigieg said. “They can move unbelievably quickly. That’s exciting, but a little dangerous.”
10.The words “are in line with” in Paragraph 6 probably mean “ ”.
    A.stop B.meet the need of
    C.change D.are ahead of
11.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Future electric scooters will be very slow and safe.
B.Electric scooters will cause fewer accidents than cars.
C.More cities will try to help with the electric scooter-share service.
D.Future traffic problems will be solved with the help of electric scooters.

You can’t choose your family. Being born into a family is one of many choices you can’t make. Your family help you choose your name, what you eat and wear, when to study, how to behave, and what to believe. Put all these together and you have a “family culture”, which you can’t choose but you help create. And the family culture shapes who you are.
Every family culture is different. There are millions of families just like yours, but none are identical. My family is normal in some ways. My parents, a teacher and a worker, try their best to raise three children in a small village in England. It is important to be respectful, to try(even if we fail), and to take responsibility for our actions and for each other. But what culture do we have? I think my family culture is simple—to live well and learn.
When Yao Ming was young, he was punished for being dishonest, so honesty is very important to him. Famous writer Mo Yan, born in Shandong, lives a simple life. He works hard and is nice to others. He thinks positive family values (价值观) make good people. All families have their advantages and disadvantages. No family is perfect, but that doesn't matter.

October 16 is World Food Day. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is always trying to make everyone in the world have enough food to eat by providing help for them. However, some people are still in a poor situation. In some African countries, some people fall ill because of poor diet(饮食) and some even die of hunger. So their countries have to borrow money from other countries to buy food.
After reading this, does it make you start to think more about the food you eat? Do you waste food? Do you throw food away without finishing it?
As a student, what can you do to reduce(减少) food waste? Here are some of my ideas.
Firstly, do not order too much while eating in a restaurant. If you can’t eat all the food, take the rest of it home. Secondly, the food you eat may not taste good sometimes, but your body needs it. Always try to finish the food on your plate. This is a way that you can easily take care of yourself. Thirdly, make a plan before you go shopping. Don’t buy too much.
In fact, it is everyone’s job to save food. Remember, start with something small and you can make a big difference to others.

20.What is the advice on shopping?
A.Buy what you like. B.Buy what you need.
C.Buy cheap things. D.Buy the best things.

Child choking(窒息) is one of the serious problems many parents face. When it comes to choking, time is everything.
In a South Carolina restaurant, a 10-month-old baby choked on a piece of cake. His parents, Jayne and Jon, hit him on the back first. However, nothing was working. and the baby was starting to turn blue.
His parents quickly realized how serious it was. Jayne began calling for help. “It happened really fast. At that point, my son couldn’t breathe(呼吸), I thought he was going to die.” Jayne said.
All people in the restaurant wanted to help, but nobody actually knew what to do. Suddenly, a man said he was able to save the baby. But instead of running to the baby, he ran to his car to get a machine called LifeVac. “The moment was scary for me as well. The baby looked really bad. The mother trusted me, like the last hope,” the man said later that day.
LifeVac is an airway-clearing machine. The man had kept the machine in his car for almost five years and had never needed it before. He used it to try to get the cake out of the baby’s mouth. Luckily, after several tries, he saved a life that day.

    A.Lucky. B.Lovely. C.Healthy. D.Friendly.

In Britain you may often hear “Drop in any time” or “Come to see me soon”, but you can’t really do that. People just say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to telephone before visiting someone at home. If you receive a written invitation to an event that says “RSVP”, you should reply to let the person who sent the invitation know whether or not you plan to go.
You should never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go. You may refuse by saying,“Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come.” If, after accepting, you are unable to go, be sure to tell those who are expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there.
Though it is not necessarily expected that you give a gift to your host, it is considered polite to do so, especially if you have been invited for a meal. Flowers, chocolate, and a small gift are all appropriate (合适的). A thank-you note or telephone call after the visit is also considered polite and is an appropriate way to express your appreciation for the invitation.
25.What can you do when a British friend says, “Drop in any time”?
A.Visit him or her at any time. B.Say no time to him or her seriously.
C.Visit him or her soon. D.Telephone him or her before visiting.
26.What should you do if your British friend sends you an invitation but you do not want to go?

B.Tell another friend to go instead of you.
C.Tell him or her that you can’t be there for some reasons.
D.Tell him or her that you don’t want to go there.
27.Which of the following is considered impolite in Britain?
A.Refuse the invitation without telling anyone.
    B.Buy small presents when invited.
    C.Write a thank-you note after a visit.
    D.Give a telephone call after a visit.
28.Where would you probably see this passage?
    A.In an invitation. B.In a guidebook. C.On a poster. D.On a postcard.

①Anger often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child’s anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to relieve (缓解) this feeling, parents will often encourage children to “stop crying” and say things like “It’s nothing to cry about?” It’s moments like these that plant the seeds of unhealthy anger. If a child never sees his or her parent express anger, he or she should never express anger, either. But if a parent always expresses their anger loudly, the child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening. So we should learn how to create healthier anger in our kids.
②The first thing you can do to create healthier anger in your children is to practice creating healthier anger in yourself. Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids.
③Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong. You may feel bad when you believe you   are wrong. When children express their feelings and are told that it’s nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad.
④We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kid expresses anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry? How did it do that? Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of our feelings are in our control.
⑤Anger is natural and normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.
29.From the first paragraph, we can infer ________.
A.parents have a great influence on their children
B.parents should get angry with their children
C.expressing anger loudly is right not wrong
D.children should express their anger like their parents
30.Parents should set a good example for children by ________.
    A.stopping them from expressing
B.raising them in a safe environment
C.letting them know they are bad or wrong
D.expressing their own anger in a healthier way
31.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
    A.①/②/③④⑤ B.①/②③/④⑤ C.①/②③④/⑤ D.①②/③④/⑤
32.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Parents should create healthier anger in themselves.
B.Anger often makes us and our children uncomfortable.
C.How parents should create healthier anger in their kids.
D.What parents should do to keep children’s anger under control.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people under lockdown feel lonely and bored. “There is a loneliness epidemic (流行病),” said John Datlilo from Pennsylvania State University, US.
So he, together with an international team of researchers, studied how to reduce loneliness and increase positive feelings during the pandemic. According to their new study, reduced (减少) loneliness has something to do with doing enjoyable activities that require both concentration (全神贯注) and skill. When people keep eyes on what they are doing, they enter a state called “flow” Dattilo explained. “Flow can be achieved by doing activities that we value and that require us to concentrate fully to use our skills.”
To achieve a state of flow, there must be a balance between the challenge of the task and your skill level. For example, if you’re trying to create a complex computer program but your skill level is low, then you may feel stressed instead of achieving “flow”, On the contrary (相反地),if the task, is too easy, then you may feel bored and “flow” will not appear, either.
If you have artistic skills, for example, playing the piano or painting can lead to flow. So can things like skiing, writing and storytelling, depending on who you are.
“When we enter a state of flow, we become absorbed and focused, and we experience momentary enjoyment,” Dattilo said. “When we leave a state of flow, we are often surprised by how much time has passed.”
However, watching television usually doesn’t help people enter flow, according to Dattilo, because there aren’t any challenges.
“People tend to thrive (茁壮成长) on healthy activities and challenge,” said Dattilo. “We hope this research will help people live fuller, happier, healthier lives.”
33.According to the Passage 2, Dattilo studied ________.
A.why people feel lonely B.how to reduce loneliness
C.what enjoyable activities are D.why people like a new challenge
34.How do people feel when they enter the “flow” state?
    A.They are concentrating and happy.
B.They feel time passes too slowly.
    C.They feel stressed and tired.
    D.They are lonely and bored.
35.The underlined word “complex” in passage probably means ________.
    A.normal B.difficult C.basic D.complete
36.What can we do to reduce loneliness during lockdown, according to Dattilo?
    A.Follow a simple lifestyle.
B.Learn as many skills as possible.
C.Do some enjoyable and challenging tasks.
    D.Complete impossible challenges.

    【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了父母如何让孩子形成“良性愤怒”的方法。
29.推理判断题。根据第一段“If a child never sees his or her parent express anger...the child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening”可知,如果一个孩子从来没有看到他或她的父母表达愤怒,他或她也应该永远不要表达愤怒。但如果父母总是大声表达他们的愤怒,孩子可能会开始认为愤怒总是一件可怕的事情,由此可推测出,父母对孩子有很大的影响。故选A。
30.细节理解题。根据第二段“Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids”可知,一旦父母能更好地体验愤怒,并以一种健康的方式表达它,就能为孩子树立一个好榜样。故选D。
结合全文和“So we should learn how to create healthier anger in our kids”可知,文章主要讲述了父母如何让孩子形成“良性愤怒”的方法,即我们应该学习如何培养孩子们更健康的愤怒情绪。故选C。

    【导语】本文主要讲述了如何在疫情期间减少孤独感,增加积极情绪,做一些需要注意力集中和技巧的有挑战性的活动会令人感到愉快,减少孤独感。
33.细节理解题。根据文章“So he, together with an international team of researchers, studied how to reduce loneliness and increase positive feelings during the pandemic.”可知,他和团队研究的是如何在疫情期间减少孤独感,增加积极情绪。故选B。
34.细节理解题。根据文章“When we enter a state of flow, we become absorbed and focused, and we experience momentary enjoyment,”可知,当我们进入“心流”的状态时,我们会变得专心和专注,我们会体验到短暂的享受。故选A。
35.词义猜测题。根据“For example, if you’re trying to create a complex computer program but your skill level is low, then you may feel stressed instead of achieving “flow”,”可知,如果你试图创建一个……计算机程序,但你的技能水平很低,那么就可能会感到压力,而无法达成心流。结合语境以及单词“low很低”可以推测,complex意为“困难的”。故选B。
36.细节理解题。根据文章“According to their new study, reduced (减少) loneliness has something to do with doing enjoyable activities that require both concentration (全神贯注) and skill.”可知,根据他们的新研究,减少孤独感与从事愉快的活动有关,这些活动既需要注意力集中,又需要技巧。也就是说,做一些需要注意力集中和技巧的有挑战性的活动会令人感到愉快,减少孤独感。故选C。
