Christy and Ted Wilson set aside time every Sunday evening to go over their shared to-dolist. Most of the items are tasks like scheduling doctor appointments and organizing play datesfor their three young children.
In every relationship, there’s a question of who is pulling their weight around the house.
Now that a majority of married-couple families have two working parents, the old “rough day atthe office” excuse doesn’t really cut it.
Women still handle more of the household activities, but men increasingly are spending timeon food preparation and cleanup. To keep things fair or at least to avoid fights, couples areturning to technology. They are using project management apps designed for the workplace todivide up and track household to-dos and reserving a portion of their date nights to comparechores. In some cases, they are even turning it into a game, setting rewards for getting thingsdone.
The imbalance doesn’t always follow gender lines (性别界线). There was a time when Mr.Wilson was in more of a “Mr. Mom” role: He was attending business school, while Mrs. Wilsonwas clocking long hours as a lawyer. So Mr. Wilson had more flexibility to take on more of thechild-care and household-management work. The couple’s roles changed after Mr. Wilsongraduated and started an e-commerce company. “We have had a lot of switching back and forthof who was in the driver’s seat in terms of household management so one person wasn’t too putupon,” she said. They began using calendars to keep the family schedules straight and sharing ato-do list in the Notes app on their phones. Each can take on chores the other dislikes.

A. Gender plays a key role in management.
B. Couples need to switch their roles each day.
C. Digital apps can only handle household arguments.
D. Understanding and sharing can help solve problems.
31. What would be the best title for the text?
A.Ways to finish housework. B.Advantages of the Notes app.
C.A family to-do list goes digital. D.Working parents face difficulties.

We may think we’re a culture that removes our worn technology at the first sight ofsomething shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices well afterthey go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment – and our wallets – as these outdateddevices consume much more energy than the newer ones that do the same things.
To figure out how much power these devices are using, Callie Babbitt and her colleagues atthe Rochester Institute of Technology in New York tracked the environmental costs for eachproduct throughout its life – from when its minerals(矿物) are mined to when we stop using thedevice. This method provided a readout for how home energy use has evolved since the early1990s. Devices were grouped by generation. Desktop computers, basic mobile phones, andbox-set TVs defined 1992. Digital cameras arrived on the scene in 1997. And MP3 players, smartphones, and LCD TVs entered homes in 2002, before tablets and e-readers showed up in 2007.
As we accumulated(积累) more devices, however, we didn’t throw out our old ones. “Theliving-room television is replaced and gets planted in the kids’ room, and suddenly one day, youhave a TV in every room of the house,” said one researcher. The average number of electronicdevices rose from four per household in 1992 to 13 in 2007. We’re not just keeping these olddevices – we continue to use them. According to the analysis of Babbitt’s team, old desktopmonitors and box TVs with cathode ray tubes are the worst devices with their energyconsumption and contribution to greenhouse gas emissions (排放) more than doubling during the1992 to 2007 window.
So what’s the solution ? The team’s data only went up to 2007, but the researchers also
explored what would happen if consumers replaced old products with new electronics that servemore than one function, such as a tablet for word processing and TV viewing. They found thatmore on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers couldcut energy consumption by 44%.
32. What does the author think of new devices?
A. They are environment-friendly. B. They are no better than the old.
C. They cost more to use at home. D. They go out of style quickly.
33. Why did Babbitt’s team conduct the research?
A. To reduce the cost of minerals.
B. To test the life cycle of a product.
C. To update consumers on new technology.
D. To find out electricity consumption of the devices.
34. Which of the following uses the least energy?
A. The box-set TV. B. The tablet.
C. The LCD TV. D. The desktop computer.
35. What does the text suggest people do about old electronic devices?
A. Stop using them. B. Take them apart.
C. Upgrade them. D. Recycle them.

It was not uncommon to see a person like me in an amusement park, who held purses, cellphones and sunglasses while others enjoyed themselves riding roller coasters(过山车) . Iadmitted their courage, but refused to challenge myself.
One day when we were at the Happy Amusement Park in Seattle, my friends tried to get meto ride a roller coaster. But the click, click, click of the cars climbing up the tracks made mescared. The stop at the top, before falling with people's screams, seemed terrible.
My friends were still trying to persuade me, and I was saying no as usual, when I suddenlysaw a familiar face, one I had never seen in real life. It was Raine, a popular young tennis star atthe top of her game, who was my heroine. I pulled out a pen and the only paper that I could findand walked to her.
She was making her way through a rope that led to a ride called the Loudest Scream. I wasrunning fast because I didn't want to miss the chance to meet her face to face, but I was also a bitnervous. So I waited at the exit to calm down and get closer to her as she came off the ride.
Several minutes later, she got out from the exit, laughing and talking with her brother. I
focused on her walking toward me. She walked past. It was more difficult to talk to a star than Ithought, but I had to take the chance. I called her name, not very confidently, but more like aquestion, “Raine?” She turned around. Our eyes actually met. “Would you mind signing forme?” I asked, handing the pen and paper toward her. Her hand wrote over the paper and she said,“You are the first person who has recognized me in the park so let's take a roller coastertogether.”

读后续写:
Her warm invitation actually filled me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I felt extremely excited that I was the only fan who got the priceless opportunity. I admired Raine very much and was eager to stay with her a little longer. On the other hand, I was scared of riding a roller coaster. The thought of having a try nearly pushed me to the verge of collapse. However, I must take the chance and it didn’t take much time to make my final decision. Mustering my courage, I nodded firmly and went to the roller coaster with her.
My friend came up and asked,"Are you sure you will take the Loudest Scream?" “Yes,” I answered without hesitation. She was rather surprised, with her mouth open and eyes widened. After all, she had spent years trying to persuade me but in vain. Fears of heights and moving too fast seemed unimportant to me now. Although I screamed during the entire time like a girl being chased by a hungry wolf, spending a good time with my idol made all of it worthwhile and my fear was miraculously overcome. And since then, I have lived in a world where I am a bit braver.
