On May 14, three students frm Jinan Experimental Middle Schl, Shandng, wn the junir grup f the bttle sum cmpetitin during the 16th Rbfest Wrld Champinship. Rbfest is an internatinal cmpetitin that challenges students t design, build and prgram autnmus (自动的) rbts.
This year, it was held at Lawrence Technlgical University in the US.
Unlike human sum, rbts fight each ther n a table. A bttle is in the center f the table. If a rbt pushes the ther rbt r the bttle ff the table and remains n the table fr three secnds, it wins. Each rund nly lasts tw minutes.
The Chinese team beat their rival (对手) tw runds in a rw. What were the secrets that helped them win?
First, they made their rbt pwerful with its design. Their rbt lks like a frklift (铲车) with a big shvel (铲). Als, they used a high-pwered mtr. "The pwerful mtr makes ur rbt strnger when it fights ther rbts." said Lü Tianyang, 13.
At the same time, their rbt was very smart. The team cnsidered all kinds f situatins and designed sme prgrams t deal with them. It helped a lt.
In ne rund, their rbt was pushed t the end f the table and almst fell ff. But suddenly, it stpped and mved the ther way instead.
"In fact, ur rbt has a special prgram: Once it finds the table's margin (边缘), it will mve back and avid falling ff," said Xu Shanghui, 13.
