A couple had a son eleven years after they married. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eye. When the boy was around four years old, one day the father was very tired after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son. The mother, who was very busy in the kitchen, totally forgot about it.
Later the boy lost his way on the street. When the son was found missing, the mother hurried to look for him, but she didn’t find him. The mother felt very sad and didn’t know how to face her husband.
When the father went to the police station after hearing that the son was missing, he looked at his wife and said just four words. What do you think the four words were? The husband just said “I love you, darling.”
The son was missing. If he had picked him up earlier, this would not have happened. There is no point in blaming anyone. His wife had also lost her only child. What his wife needed at that moment was comfort and understanding from her husband. That is what the husband gave his wife. Several weeks later, with the help of the police, the couple finally found their lost son. The family’s relationship became stronger over that time.
Sometimes we spend lots of time asking who is to blame. We miss many chances to give each other support and let each other feel the warmth of human relationships. Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful.

A. He was very lazy. B. He forgot to do so.

A. Warm-hearted. B. Careful.
C. Hard-working. D. Broad-minded.
7. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Learn to forgive others. B. Love is the most important.
C. Everyone can make mistakes. D. Be careful in everything you do.
D 5. C 6. D 7. A

根据第一段“one day the father was very tired after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son.”(一天,父亲在工作后太累了所以他就让妻子去接孩子。)
根据第三段“The husband just said ”I love you, darling.”(丈夫只是说“亲爱的,我爱你。”)
根据最后一段“Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful.”(摆脱你对于原谅,自私和恐惧的不情愿,你将发现世界比之前更美好。) 故选A项。
C
In the nearly two centuries since German physician Carl Wunderlich established 98.6℉ as the standard“normal” body temperature, it has been used by parents and doctors alike as the measure by which fevers and often the severity of illness have been assessed.
In more recent years, however, lower body temperatures have been widely reported in healthy adults. A 2019study showed that the normal body temperature in Americans is about 97.5℉. A multinational team led by Michael Gurven and Thomas Kraft have found a similar decrease among the Tsimane, a native population in the Bolivian Amazon.
A key question, then, is why body temperatures have declined over time both for Americans and Tsimane. Extensive data available from the team’s long-term research in Bolivia addresses some possibilities.
Declines might be due to the rise of modern healthcare and lower rates of lingering mild infections now as compared to the past. But while health has generally improved over the past two decades, infections are still widespread in rural Bolivia. Therefore the results suggest that reduced infection alone can’t explain the observed body temperature declines.
It could be that people are in better condition, so their bodies might be working less to fight infection. Or greater access to antibiotics(抗生素) and other treatments means the duration of infection is shorter now than in the past.
Another possibility is that our bodies don’t have to work as hard to regulate(调节) internal temperature because of air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter. While Tsimane body temperatures do change with time of year and weather patterns, the Tsimane still do not use any advanced technology for helping to regulate their body temperature. They do, however, have more access to clothes and blankets.
The researchers were initially surprised to find no single “magic bullet” that could explain the decline in body temperature. It’s likely a combination of factors—all pointing to improved conditions.
8. What role has 98.6℉ been playing?
A. It can show an illness is incurable.
B. It can help doctors determine a fever.
C. It can arouse people’s attention to health.
D. It can indicate an abnormal body temperature.
9. Why rural Bolivia is mentioned in the text?
A. To arouse readers’ sympathy. B. To imply other existing factors.
C. To call for improved medical access. D. To discuss methods to reduce infections.
10. What contributes to the decline in body temperature?
A. The growing adaptability. B. The international policies.
C. The improved conditions. D. The worsening environment.
11. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Modern life improves the general health.
B. Living conditions greatly affect mankind.
C. The normal body temperature is declining.
D. Various factors influence the body temperature.
B 9. B 10. C 11. C
根据第一段中的“ it has been used by parents and doctors alike as the measure by which fevers and often the severity of illness have been assessed.”(父母和医生都用它来衡量发烧和疾病的严重程度。)
根据第四段最后两句“infections are still widespread in rural Bolivia. Therefore the results suggest that reduced infection alone can’t explain the observed body temperature declines.”(玻利维亚农村地区的感染仍然很普遍。
通读全文尤其是最后一段最后一句“It’s likely a combination of factors—all pointing to improved conditions.”(这很可能是一系列因素组合,所有这些因素都表明情况有所改善。)
根据文章第三段“A key question, then, is why body temperatures have declined over time both for Americans and Tsimane. Extensive data available from the team’s long-term research in Bolivia addresses some possibilities.”( 那么,一个关键问题就是为什么美国人和齐曼的体温都随着时间的推移而下降。

Football scarves, shirts and...eggshell art?A retired schoolteacher is making mascot memorabilia(吉祥物纪念品) from eggshell, skillfully crafted by hand.
Nguyen Thanh Tam, 67 years old, spends hours every day making the models. He is driven by his soccer enthusiasm shared by millions across Vietnam glued to the World Cup.
The soccer tournament kicked off in Russia a few weeks ago. Most of his tiny statues are of the tournament mascot, a wolf named Zabivaka. The wolf wears big sports glasses and is kicking a soccer ball. Tam also has plans for models of soccer heroes Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Though not widespread in Vietnam, using eggshell in art is not unheard of. Traditional fine works often feature in laid eggshell that is used to replace white paint.
Tam first developed the unique hobby around New Year in 2002. He was looking for the right material to make a statue with his 13yearold students. He discovered that an eggshell perfectly displayed Saint Nick's round belly. He eventually married his passion(酷爱) for crafts and soccer. Others are of celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Barack Obama and Gangnam Style's PSY. He also does birds and animals. He has his pigrelated series to mark the Year of the Pig in 2019.
Tam says the biggest challenge is to find the right egg shape to fit the creation, so he has expanded beyond chicken eggs to include ostrich(鸵鸟) and quail(鹌鹑) eggs. He has also widened his egg artworks by using up all the yolks(蛋黄) and whites he used to throw away.
Tam doesn't sell the delicate dolls, preferring instead to keep them on display to impress his visitors. He has already received a nod from Vietnam's record center for the most eggshell art created, but he has a global ambition.“I hope one day my eggshell art will be recognized as a world record, ”he said with a smile.
12. What can be learned about Tam's artworks?
A. They're made of eggshell. B. They adopt white paint.

Ways to Improve Yourself by 1% Each Day
Many people treat “life” as something that happens to them. They are the victim. ____16____ And then there are those who are clear on their goals. When something goes wrong, they are the first to admit where they went wrong. How can you live a life by design instead of by default?
Set goals and actually achieve them
____17____ “New Year’s Resolutions” are the worst (or best) example of this. It’s easy to set goals, but very few people follow through with them to the end. People who live by design practice the habit of setting goals and actually achieving them. This constant practice is what allows them to set bigger and bigger goals and see them through to completion.
Surround yourself with people you want to be like
Choose your friends carefully. As they say, “____18____” Make sure that the individuals who occupy your life and time share your values. Ideally, these people should even be a little bit ahead of you, forcing you to stretch and continue to grow in the direction you’d like to go.
Don’t be afraid to go your own way
When you go your own way everyone will tell you that you're wrong at first. Everyone will point and share their opinion and then somewhere down the line, they will all come back around. ____19____ And they will ask you how you did it.
Practice discipline
In order for you to get to where you know you can go, you have to say “no” a hundred times more than you say the word “yes”. ____20____ And the only way to do so is to have a strong sense of self-awareness and discipline.
A. Everybody sets goals.
B. They create the life they want to live.
C. Some people just don’t know when to quit.
D. They will see the life you’ve built for yourself.
E. You must be faithful to yourself and your goal.
F. When things go wrong, it’s someone else’s fault.
G. You are a reflection of those who you spend the most time with.
F 17. A 18. G 19. D 20. E
根据上文“Many people treat “life” as something that happens to them. They are the victim.(许多人把“生活”看成发生在他们身上的事情。他们是受害者)”以及后文“And then there are those who are clear on their goals. When something goes wrong, they are the first to admit where they went wrong.
根据后文““New Year’s Resolutions” are the worst (or best) example of this. It’s easy to set goals, but very few people follow through with them to the end. People who live by design practice the habit of setting goals and actually achieving them. This constant practice is what allows them to set bigger and bigger goals and see them through to completion.(“新年决心”是最坏(或最好)的例子。
根据上文“Choose your friends carefully.(慎重选择你的朋友)”以及后文“Make sure that the individuals who occupy your life and time share your values. Ideally, these people should even be a little bit ahead of you, forcing you to stretch and continue to grow in the direction you’d like to go.(确保那些占据你生活和时间的人与你有共同的价值观。
根据上文“When you go your own way, everyone will tell you that you're wrong at first. Everyone will point and share their opinion and then somewhere down the line, they will all come back around.(当你走自己的路时,每个人一开始都会说你错了。
根据上文“In order for you to get to where you know you can go, you have to say “no” a hundred times more than you say the word “yes”.(为了让你到达你知道你能到达的地方,你说“不”的次数要比你说“是”的次数多百倍)”以及后文“And the only way to do so is to have a strong sense of self-awareness and discipline.(而要做到这一点,唯一的方法就是要有强烈的自我意识和纪律性)”可知,本段主旨是要忠于做自己,忠于既定目标,我们必须要有强烈的自我意识和原则性纪律性。
