Every year arund August, millins f teens take their parents t stres t buy new clthes fr the start f the schl year. Nt every parent can affrd this, and sme teens are frced t g t schl in the same clthes they wre last year. The bvius differences in clthes cause differences amng students. There is a simple slutin: schl unifrms.
I knw frm persnal experience and surveys that wearing unifrms creates a sense f equality amng peers.
Frm the sixth grade until I graduated frm high schl, I attended a schl that required students t wear unifrms. The unifrm was very simple: dark brwn shes, green-brwn pants, and a white shirt. The unifrm left little rm fr any kind f self-expressin, especially thrugh clthes.
Hwever, I learned hw t stand ut by expressing myself thrugh my persnality, art, and sprts. I did nt knw I culd draw until the sixth grade. I als wuld never have learned f my musical abilities if it were nt fr my desire t find ways t express myself. Unifrms taught me that I was myself, except what I wre.
Unifrms als help t a much safer learning envirnment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junir year f high schl. A man ran away frm prisn and wanted t hide in the gym f ur schl. Luckily, cameras all ver the schl quickly fund the stranger befre any danger culd ever happen as he was ut f place. Schl fficials kept the man lcked inside ur gym until the plice came t take him back t prisn.
Unifrms help prvide a better educatinal experience fr all students n matter what race, culture, r ecnmic class. Wearing unifrms is gd fr bth schls and students.

Yu prbably learned in elementary schl that cunting the rings f a tree trunk is a simple way t measure its histry and age. But what if yu need t find ut hw ld a live and healthy tree is withut calling in an expert?
Cutting it pen t determine its age wuld cause irreversible (不可逆转的) damage t a live tree. But there is ne quick way t determine a standing tree’s age and it calls fr a bit f math. First use a tape measure t recrd the circumference (周长) f the tree trunk at rughly 1.3 meters frm the grund. Next, it’s time t determine the tree’s diameter (直径). T d that, divide the tree’s circumference by pi (3.14). Then, take the diameter and multiply it by the species’ specific grwth factr number. This is where knwing the tree species is vital.
Scientists used their knwledge t uncver grwth factrs fr each tree species. Multiplying the tree’s diameter by the tree’s specific grwth factr will give yu the tree’s rugh age.
Grwth factrs vary frm tw t seven and beynd. The grwth factrs fr sme f the mst cmmn tree species include: red maple: 4.5, cttnwd: 2, sugar maple: 5.5, dgwd: 7, and white ak: 5. S let’s take a red maple, which has a grwth factr f 4.5, and assume it has a circumference f 22 inches. T get its age, divide 22 inches by pi t get the tree’s diameter — 7 inches. Nw take 7 and multiply that by 4.5, which is the red maple’s grwth factr and yu get 31.5, the rugh age f the tree.
This is a simple way t cunt rughly a tree’s age withut threatening the tree’s health, but it desn’t guarantee 100 percent exactness; grwth factrs are mst exact fr trees fund in healthy frests. Urban trees face stressrs like pr sil r limited grwing areas that may affect their verall health and grwth.
28. What is the prblem with the familiar methd f cunting a tree’s age?
A. It is nt exact. B. It is nt suitable fr a living tree.
C. It needs the help f an expert. D. It takes t much time.
29. What is the mst imprtant in calculating the age f a live tree?
A. The tree species. B. The grwth speed f the tree.
C. The height f the tree. D. The living envirnment f the tree.
30. What is the age f a sugar maple 6 inches in diameter?
A. 27. B. 30. C. 33. D. 42.
31. Which wuld be the best title fr this passage?
A. Uncver Trees’ Grwth Factrs
B. What Affects the Age f a Tree
C. Hw t Keep a Tree Live and Healthy
D. Hw t Get the Age f a Live Tree Mathematically

The ability t use the left hand is referred t as left-handedness. Left-handedness is actually mre cmmn in the male ppulatin than in females. There are a number f myths abut them.
It is difficult fr left-handed children t learn writing f the alphabet, withut persnal tutring. Nt true at all. Observe the left-handed tddler. Lefties have a lesser chance f surviving a hand-t-hand fight. This is anything but true. In fact, a cmmn bservatin is that the left-handed fighter is able t strike a strng surprise attack n the pen, unprtected right side.
Left-handed peple are many a time at the disadvantage f using tls designed fr the right-handed. A number f mathematical, artistic and sprting geniuses were and are left-handed. Hwever, mst left-handers ver the wrld, might have, at sme stage in their life, been n the receiving end f devalued cmments regarding their chice f hand. I am sure this list and discussin abut left-handed peple wuld be reasn enugh t be prud f being left-handed.
32. Cmpared t right-handed children, what can we learn abut left-handed nes?
A. They find it hard t learn writing. B. They are tired f the left-handedness.
C. They are used t writing tls t late. D. They may have mre beautiful handwriting.
33. What advantage d lefties have in hand-t-hand fights?
A. They culd start a surprise attack with their left hands.
B. They culd attack their partners’ left sides surprisingly.
C. They have a better chance t beat their partners in histry.
D. They are gd at fighting especially within the bxing ring.
34. What is the cmputer muse mentined t shw us?
A. Left-handed peple are in fact high achievers.
B. Left-handed peple have many disadvantages.
C. Many tls are designed fr the left-handed.
D. Many left-handed receive bad remarks daily.
