I was never very neat while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but my always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up. She quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, crying. Obviously. that was something she could not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy (同情) rose up in my heart.

I got so absorbed into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching. Her tears dried and her expression was such disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me. “Thanks.”

根据第二段的“Soon, I heard her screaming, ‘Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!’(很快,我听到她尖叫:“把你的鞋子拿开!为什么在我的床底下!”)”可知,凯特在床下看到了作者的鞋子让她生气了,故选D。
    【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段的“From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly climbed up the bed into her covers, sobbing. Clearly, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.(从她的谈话中,我立刻就知道她奶奶病得很重。挂断电话后,她迅速爬上被窝,抽泣着。显然,这是她不应该独自经历的事情。突然,一种温暖的同情之情在我心中升起。)”及第四段的“Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side.(慢慢地,我收好了铅笔,拿回了书,整理了我的床,擦了袜子,扫了地板,甚至在她旁边。)”

The introduction of the iPad, with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in the school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them?
Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. The main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents can be emailed straight over to workmates during a meeting. Children hand in their homework by e-mail or through the school’s learning environment. Teachers now take the register using the iPad, which means that there is a centralized record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.
The use of iPads has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now down by e-mail. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s book by attaching the iPad to the whiteboard. Has forgotten the textbook. The teacher can take a photograph of the relevant and send it to the student in class.
While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in cross as some children prefer the contact. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, Parents feared that the iPads would replace and the children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says, “The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources that can be used. But we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for revision.”
    8. What can teachers do when everyone uses an iPad in school?
    A. They can have deep conversations with students.
    B. They can have more time to prepare the lessons.
    C. They can learn more about students’ activities at home.
    D. They can communicate with their workmates more conveniently.
    9. What is an advantage of using iPads in the classroom?
    A. It saves students bringing the textbooks.
    B. It reduces parents’ worry about teaching.
    C. It improves the relationship between teachers.
    D. It makes sharing information easier.
    10. What is parents’ attitude towards the use of iPads in the classroom?
    A. Worried. B. Uncaring. C. Annoyed. D. Positive.
    11. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
    A. Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching.
    B. The iPads won’t take the place of printed materials.
    C. More and more schools are using iPads.
    D. Exercise books are more valuable now.
D 9. D 10. A 11. B

由第四段中的“In Anne Laure’s school, Parents feared that the iPads would replace and the children would lose handwriting skills. (在安妮·劳尔的学校里,家长们担心iPad会被取代,孩子们会失去书写技能)”可知,家长们很担心(Worried)。故选A项。
由第四段中的“While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. (虽然iPad在学校的使用彻底改变了孩子们的教学方式,但它并没有完全取代更传统的教学方式)”,“The children all have a textbook and exercise books. (孩子们都有课本和练习本)”以及“The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources that can be used. But we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for revision. (老师们还没有准备好放弃传统的教学方式。我们非常欢迎iPad,因为它有助于沟通,拓宽了可使用的资源。但我们还没有准备好放弃纸。孩子们自己仍然珍视他们的练习本,并依赖它们来复习)”可知,最后一段主要是说 iPads在学校中的使用变革了儿童的教育方式,但它并没有完全取代更传统的教学方法,B项“iPads并没有完全取代传统的纸质教材”符合段落中心大意。故选B项。

Record fires sweeping across the Amazon this month have been catching global headlines as scientists and environmental groups are worried that they will worsen climate change and threaten biodiversity(生物多样性).
As the largest rainforest in the world, the Amazon is often called “the lungs of the world”. It is also home to about 3 million pieces of plants and animals, and one million local people. The vast lands of rainforest play an important role in the world’s ecosystem because they take in heat instead of it being reflected back into the atmosphere. They also store carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) and produce oxygen, making sure that less carbon is given off, mitigating the effects of climate change.
“Any forest destroyed is a threat to biodiversity and the people who use that biodiversity,” Thomsa Lovejoy, an ecologist at George Mason University told National Geographic. “The shocking threat is that a lot of carbon goes into the atmosphere,” he stressed. “Facing the global climate change, we cannot afford more damage to a major source of oxygen and biodiversity. The Amazon must be protected.” UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.
Data from the National Institute for Space Research(INPE) Show that the number of forest fires in Brazil quickly increased by 82% from January to August this year from a year ago. A total of 71,497 forest fires were recorded in the country in the first eight months of 2019, up from 39,194 in the same period in 2018, INPE said. “It’s reported that the forest areas in the Brazilian Amazon have decreased something between 20 and 30% compared to the last 12 months,” Carlos Nobre, a researcher at the University of Sao Paulo, told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
Brazil owns about 60% of the Amazon rainforest, whose drop could have severe results for global climate and rainfall. The size of the area burned by fires has yet to be determined, but the emergency has transcended Brazil’s borders, reaching Peruvian, Paraguayan and Bolivian areas.
    12. What is the second paragraph mainly talking about?
    A. The effects of climate change?
    B. The role of the Amazon rainforest.
    C. The results of the Amazon rainforest fires.
    D. The courses of the decreasing biodiversity.
    13. Which of the following best explains mitigating underlined in paragraph 2?
    A. Reducing. B. Causing. C. Worsening D. Benefiting
    14. What can we learn from Thomas’ and Antonio’s words?
    A. The biodiversity makes the rainforests unique.
    B. The rainforest fires result in serious results.
    C. The global climate crisis brings more rainforest fires.
    D. The dry weather leads to the rainforest fires.
    15. Which section of a magazine is this text probably taken from?
    A. Sports and music.
    B. Science and technology.
    C. Nature and geography.
    D. Business and culture.
B 13. A 14. B 15. C

The vast lands of rainforest play an important role in the world’s ecosystem because they take in heat instead of it being reflected back into the atmosphere.(它也是大约300万株动植物和100万当地人的家园。
根据文章第二段“They also store carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) and produce oxygen, making sure that less carbon is given off(它们还储存二氧化碳并产生氧气,以确保释放的碳更少)”可推知,确保碳排放更少,会减轻气候变化的影响,所以画线词是“减轻、减缓”的意思。故选A项。
根据文章第三段“Any forest destroyed is a threat to biodiversity and the people who use that biodiversity(任何被破坏的森林都是对生物多样性和使用这种生物多样性的人的威胁)”和“Facing the global climate change, we cannot afford more damage to a major source of oxygen and biodiversity. The Amazon must be protected(面对全球气候变化,我们承担不起对氧气和生物多样性的主要来源造成更大的破坏。亚马逊必须得到保护)”可知,我们可以从托马斯和安东尼奥的话中了解到雨林大火造成了严重的后果。故选B项。
