I was on a train in Switzerland(瑞士). Thirty minutes later, the train came to a stop and the conductor’s(乘务员)voice over the loudspeaker delivered a message in German, Italian and French. I’d made the mistake of not learning any of those languages before my vacation. Everyone started getting off the train and an old woman saw that I was confused and stressed. (I had to catch an overnight train to Rome, and I was flying home from there). She could speak some English and told me that an accident had happened on the tracks(轨道). She asked me where I was trying to get to, then went and talked to some workers, and came back to tell me that we’d have to hop(换乘)trains three or four times to get there.
I was really glad she was heading the same way because it would have been impossible for me to figure it out on my own(自己弄清楚). So we went from one train station to the next, getting to know each other along the way. She was really the sweetest woman. Today there are 6.4 billion people on the earth. By the year 2050 there may be 12.5 billion. There are many people to feed. We need more and more food.
One way to produce more food is growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983, scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic (遗传的) material. Foods from plants grown in this way are called genetically modified (转基因的) foods, or GM foods.
By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. Scientists make plants which are strong against plant diseases. They can also help in our diseases: a kind of rice will be grown, for example, which stops people becoming blind.
Rich countries produce GM foods because they are easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food.
GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2050. There are strong feelings against them because they are unnatural. They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later. But both rich and poor countries are interested in their uses, and they are not going to go away. In 2050, we may think differently about them.
27.There may be __________ billion people by the year 2050 on the earth.
A.6.4 B.12.5 C.18.5 D.20.5
28.Why do rich countries produce GM foods?
A.Because they are easy to grow and bring in more money.
B.Because they are easy to grow and very cheap.
C.Because they help produce more food.
D.Because they are the best plants.
29.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.GM plants are not natural.
B.GM plants are strong against plant diseases.
C.Everyone knows how good or bad GM plants are.
D.GM foods may hurt people or their children later.
30.What can we learn from the passage?
A.GM foods will go away one day in the future.
B.GM foods will not go away in the future.
C.People will not be interested in GM foods.
D.People will have to stop eating GM foods.
第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
下面文章中有五处(第31—35题)需要添加一个问题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段的提问。选项中有一项是多余选项。

Failure is such a common matter that every one of us may meet from time to time. Even the most successful people in the world have trouble times. People often say that “Failure is the mother of success.” This might have some truth to it, but it does not tell us how to turn a loss into a win. We know we shouldn’t give up when we fail-but in fact, we do. The following advice can help you turn failure into success.
____32____
Accept that things did not work out as planned. Even if you worked especially hard on something, it’s important to know and accept that it didn’t work. Don’t let a failure stop you from trying a new idea in the future.
____33____
You may not want to jump right back into your project after a failure. If you’re tired or need some time to clear your head, take some time off. For some people, this may mean closing a project for some time while for others it may mean taking a vacation or road trip. Remember that leaving it for a while is not the same thing as stopping.
____34____
You might feel painful at first, but spend some time thinking about why you failed. What went wrong or didn’t work? For example, if you failed a test, think about how you studied for it. Do you need to study or learn in a different way? Answering these questions can help you learn from the experience and do better on your next exam.
____35____
If you get some advice on your project, take it to heart. Find out what parts other people think are working and which parts are not working. For example, if you’re performing a musical piece, ask for advice on how to improve. You may get some valuable suggestions. Also, you can ask successful people what have led to success.
Failure is a common thing in our daily life. Once you learn how to do this, you will never be afraid to fail again.A.Take a break.
B.Listen to others.
C.Accept your mistakes.
D.Work hard on everything.
E.Find out what went wrong.
F.How to turn failure into success.
