定语：修饰，限定名词或代词的成分，翻译为“…的”常见作定语的词：名词，代词，形容词，数词，介词短语等。

Where, when,why
指代先行词，又在从句中充当相应的句子成分。
当先行词是物时, 用which 或that引导.
These are the trees which/that were planted last year.
当先行词是人时, 用wh或that (whm)引导.

Whm 作定语从句的宾语

that 可以作定语从句的主语和宾语.
关系代词作动词宾语时均可省略。

当先行词同时指人和物时，关系代词只能用that.
下列情况只能用that
1.当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时。
eg. Tm is the cleverest by that I have ever knwn.
2. 当先行词是指物的不定代词时。如：all, anything, smething, nthing, nne, the ne, everything, little, few, much, any .
eg. Here is smething ( that) I will tell yu.
3．先行词被the nly，the very， the last等修饰时。
eg. This is the nly nvel that yu want t brrw．
4．先行词是或被all，n，sme，any，little，much 等修饰时。
eg. I've written dwn all the things that the teacher desn't allw us t d．
5．先行词是人和物的名词时,用that, 既不用which,也不用wh。
eg. He tld us many interesting things and persns that we had never heard．
6.主句的主语是疑问词wh /which时 ,为了避免重复。
eg. Wh is the girl that is crying？ eg. Which is the bike that yu lst?
下列情况只能用which
1. 介词前置时，不用that。即介词提在定语从句前。
eg.This is the rm in which he lives.
2. 先行词为that时,避免重复，用which.
eg. What's that which is under the desk?

关系代词只用that不用which的情况
1. 当先行词是all,little,much,nne,few,everything, nthing, smething, anything等不定代词,或被它们修饰时，只能用that。
