一.Learning goals:
1. To understand the passage by finishing 3 tasks clearly.
2. To be able to tell or perform their own jokes .
3. To be able to use a few new phrases in sentences correctly.
二.Lead-in:
First, invite two groups of students to perform two jokes about themselves which happened on April Fool’s Day. The two groups have prepared for it ,but the other students don’t know that. First joke is about eggs and the other one is about a monster bug. After performing, I will ask the other students one question: When do the two jokes happen ?

1. Task1: 2b. Read the passage quickly. Then match each paragraph with the main idea.

Para. 4 A sad story that happened on April Fool’s Day
2. Task 2: 2c. Read the passage again and answer the questions.
(1). Why did the supermarkets run out of spaghetti on April Fool’s Day?
(2). What did the TV show say the special water could do?
(3). Why did the TV star’s joke have a bad ending?
(4). When did Orson Wells tell people about aliens from Mars landing on the earth?
(5). Why did so many people believe Orson Wells?
3. Task3: Read the four jokes again and try to retell the jokes , or change one of them
into a conversation in pairs . Then ask two or three groups to perform .
五.After-reading:
1. Tell your own joke :
First share your funny jokes in your group. Then choose the best and tell it to the class.
The class will vote(投票) for: Which is the funniest joke?
For example: Well, last year, on the first day of school, my sister put a piece of paper
on my back that said “Please say hello.” All morning at school ...
2. Language points:

(3). Many April Fool’s jokes may end up being not very funny.
