Stage1: Warming-up

Step1: Greetings.

Step2: Free talk.

Who is your favorite movie character?

Stage3: Pre-writing.

Step1: Modeling:

T: Can you guess my favorite movie character?

I will show you some pictures of it.

Step2: Show the movie review of Mulan.

      Discuss how to write a movie review: beginning, body and ending.

Step3: Show the movie review of The Lion King.

     Underline the topic sentence, body and ending of the movie review.

Stage4: While-writing.

Step1: Talk about the movie Tom and Jerry.

 The name of the movie: Tom and Jerry

Step2: Write a movie review of Tom and Jerry!

Stage5: Post-writing.

Step1: Evaluate a piece of writing.

      Choose a piece of writing to show how to evaluate the writings.

Step2: Group-work

      Choose the best the movie review in the group to correct it together and find out good sentences.

Step3: Show their work by group.

Summary: How can we write a movie review?

Homework:

Write a short movie review of any movie you like to watch.

Ability aims:

1. Ss will be able to master the skills of reading and writing.

Moral aims:

Students will be able to understand the Chinese culture.

Teaching importance and difficulties:

Ss can properly use the skills of writing.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Warming up and review.

Review the main phrases learned yesterday.

Step 2  Lead-in

1. Ask some questions about Mulan. Let the Ss think and answer the questions:

“Do you like cartoons? Do you know Mulan? Can you say anything about it?”   

 Ss discuss the questions and answer the questions. e.g.

 S1: Yes, I do. Mulan didn’t have any brothers. She took his father’s place to fight in the army. 

S2: Mulan dressed up like a boy. Nobody knew she was a girl in the army. 

Step 3 New words

2.Read the article about Mulan. Fill in the blanks in the movie review. Use the words in the box to help you. 

3.写作指导：

首先，阅读短文，整体把握短文大意。

其次，分析有空格的每个句子，看空格处的意思，联系所给单词的意思，确定空格处应填的单词。

最后，再通读一遍短文，看是否通顺合理。

4. Ss try to read the article and try to fill in the blanks.  

5. Check the answers with the Ss.

Step 5.Writing 

Work on 3b:

1. Think about your favorite movies. Write notes for your own movie review.

2. Give some examples to the Ss.

 Simba’s father was the king. But his uncle, Scar killed his father. When Simba grew up, he came back to the forest and became the true King.  

What you think of the movie/star?

It was fantastic.           

3. Ss try to think about their favorite movies. Write notes for their own movie review.

4. Try to fill in the blanks.  

Step 6 Work on 3c:

1. Write about your movie review using the notes in 3b. 

2. 写作指导：

 本文为写自己所喜欢的电影的剧情回顾，

 因此，时态应用一般现在时态与一般过去时态；

 首先，可介绍影片的类型，及主人公等。

 然后，介绍故事的梗概。

 最后，表达你对该影片的总体看法。

3. 学生们根据写作提示，及上面表格中的提示来写作这篇文章。

4. Let some Ss read their passage to the class. 

Ⅵ. Discussion

1. Read the kinds of shows or movies in the chart in 4. Ask and answer about them with a partner. Write the answers in the chart.

2. Give Ss some examples:

 S1: What do you think of soap operas?

S2: I think they’re boring. What about you?

S1: Well, I don’t like them, either. 

3. Ss ask and answer with their partners and try to fill in the chart.

4. At last, write a short report about your ideas and your partner’s.
