Students at St. Peter’s Lutheran Schl are helping fight hunger in Guatemala by vlunteering (自愿参加) with Lve the Hungry, a nn-prfit (非营利的) rganizatin.
The schl’s student bdy helped package 20, 000 meals fr the rganizatin based in Luisville, Kentucky.
St. Peter’s Lutheran has wrked with the rganizatin ver the last few years. But this year it prvided mre help by asking a larger part f its students t take part, said Sctt Krueger, a parent f three daughters wh attend the schl.
Students wearing glves lined up n bth sides f tables set up in the schl’s gym as part f the packaging step. The jb required scping (舀取) fd such as rice and ther fd frm a large bx that were prvided by Lve the Hungry.
Krueger, wh als was vlunteering fr Lve the Hungry, said he felt it was imprtant fr students t take part in it and see the imprtance f their wrk during the Sept. 13 event.
“This is ne way t try t give back, ” Krueger said.
Lve the Hungry, which was created in 2012, gives great attentin t packaging healthy meals that can prevent malnutritin (营养不良) in yung children, said Dale Oelker, the directr.
Other than Guatemala, Lve the Hungry als ffers fd t Nicaragua, El Salvadr, Haiti and cuntries in West Africa such as Sierra Lene, Mali and Sudan.
Fifth-grader Sydney Jhnsn was amng the hundreds f students wh helped and said she felt it was imprtant t make a difference fr the hungry peple.
“It makes me feel gd hw we all helped ut, ” Jhnsn said.
Lve the Hungry plans t ffer 100, 000 t 150, 000 meals t Guatemala befre the end f the year, Oelker said.
