Some Favorite European Attractions for Chinese Tourists
Bicester Village
The outskirts of the Oxford shire town is the second most visited UK attraction for Chinese tourists-after Buckingham Palace. Three in four Chinese visitors head to Bicester aided by Mandarin signs and announcements at London Marylebone; others travel by tour bus.
King's College, Cambridge
A famous tree-for Chinese people at least-can be found in King's College, Cambridge. The willow, ignored by most, is mentioned in a much-loved poem by Xu Zhimo, "Taking Leave of Cambridge Again. " Xu spent a year studying at King's College, where he was entranced (使 人迷)by the works of Keats and Shelley, before returning to China to lead its modern poetry movement. Xu died at the age of just 34 in a plane crash and the willow is now considered by his fans to be a mark. A memorial stone can be found beside the tree-an essential spot for Chinese tourists to take u photo.
Outletcity
Germany's answer to Bicester Village is Outletcity in Metzingen, the town in Baden- Wurttemberg, close io Frankfurt. where Hugo Boss was founded. It has little to attract anyone beyond scores of factories. Hugo Boss was the first, but Prada, Nike, Burberry, Armani and Gucci have since followed suit.
Bonn
The former West German capital is another popular port of all. Chinese people love classical music-particularly Beethoven- making his birthplace an obvious highlight of any trip to Europe. The city's tourist board offers maps in three foreign languages: English, Chinese and Japanese.
Verona
Both British and Chinese travellers like Venice, Rome and Florence-but Verona typically appears higher on the wish lists of China's tourists. That's because of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliel. The play is popular on UK shores, of course, but the love is doubled in China as it was among the first of the Shakespeare's works to be translated into Mandarin, while its plot is similar to a famous Chinese folk tale, The Butterfly Lovers.

A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not tunning for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yel, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P. E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn't do either well. He later informed me that I was "not athletic".
The idea that I was "not athletic" stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn't even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带)became untied. So I stopped 10 readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: "GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!"
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a. m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), Ican now call myself a "marathon winner".

Returning to a book you've read many times can feel like drinks with an old friend. There's a welcome familiarity-but also sometimes a slight suspicion that time has changed you both, and thus the relationship. But books don't change, people do. And that's what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative.
The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our bond with the work is based on our present mental register. It's true, the older I get, the more I feel time has wings. But with reading, it's all about the present. It's about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight.
There are three books I reread annually. The first, which I take to reading every spring, is Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast. Published in 1964, it's his classic memoir of 1920s Paris. The language is almost intoxicating (令人陶醉的), an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time. Another is Annie Dillard's Holy the Firm, her poetic 1975 ramble (随笔)about everything and nothing. The third book is Julio Cortázar's Save Twilight: Selected Poems, because poetry. And because Cortázar.
While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifts, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author's work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember, it's you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends.
28. Why does the author like rereading?
A. It evaluates the writer-reader relationship.
B. It's a substitute for drinking with a friend.
C. It extends the understanding of oneself.
D. It's a window to a whole new world.
29. What do we know about the book A Moveable Feast?
A. It's a brief account of a trip.
B. It's a record of a historic event.
C. It's about Hemingway's friends in Paris.
D. It's about Hemingway's life as a young man.
30. What does the underlined word "currency" in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Effort.
B. Energy.
C. Reward.
D. Face value.
31. What can we infer about the author from the text?
A. He loves poetry.
B. He's an editor.
C. He's very ambitious.
D. He teaches reading.
D
Siesta is a Spanish word referring to a nap or rest break usually after lunch. The word “siesta" comes from the Latin base "sexta", which means sixth and refers to the sixth hour, or “sexta hora", of daylight.
By definition, a siesta takes place six hours after dawn, if the sun rises at 7 am, the "sexta hora" would take place just after noon. However, most people do not time their siesta so literally. Traditionally, a siesta takes place after lunch in the mid afternoon. A small Spanish town called Ador, which still practices a daily siesta, closes all businesses between 2 pm and 5 pm each day. Historically, Spanish companies that built a two-hour break into the workday schedule made the working day end around 8 pm, a practice that continues among many Spanish workers today.
Although most people connect the siesta with Spain, its actual birthplace is Italy. Similar midday nap breaks are common around Mediterranean (地中海)and in many Latin American countries, where the midday is often hot. Before air conditioning was invented, the siesta offered a much-needed break from the hottest hours of the day.
In recent years, former Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy introduced a plan to end the siesta, which would allow many workers to end their workdays earlier, making Spain's standard work schedule at the same level with its European neighbors.
Although not a widespread practice, some countries outside of the Mediterranean area currently encourage midday napping. For example, parts of Japan have provided nap pods for midday breaks, and falling asleep at work is viewed as a positive sign that a person is working hard. In the US, some sleep researchers are trying to spread the concept of a power nap, which would allow people to briefly(短暂地)sleep while they are at work.
32. Why are businesses closed between 2 pm and 5 pm in the town of Ador?
A. It is the hottest time of the day.
B. Local people have a daily siesta.
C. It goes with its European neighbors.
D. It is a positive sign of working hard.
33. What can we infer from the practice of siesta around the Mediterranean countries?
A. The culture of siesta started from Spain.
B. Air-conditioners are a must in hot areas.
C. Nap breaks are popular around the world.
D. The custom comes from the need of daily life.
34. Why did Spain intend to end the siesta practice?
A. To stop workers from working too long.
B. To have a standard European work schedule.
C. There is no need to have a midday break now.
D. Spain is not one of the Mediterranean countries.
35. What can be the best title of the passage?

Daniel got a job as a delivery man to work his way through college. His parents couldn't save up all the money he needed to gel into law school, so since he was 15, he would take summer jobs and find some other jobs between studies to earn extra cash. The boy was determined and every day he would wake up at 5 a. m. , summer or winter, riding on his old bike to deliver parcels. It wasn't an casy job, especially during winter. Besides that, his old bike was slow, making things harder. But that wasn't a problem for Daniel.
Daniel's schedule was always the same every day and pcople in the neighborhood already knew him. He called them by their names, and they would often wave and greet him as he passed.
It was a normal day and Daniel was delivering parcels as usual. "Morning, Daniel! Check out my brand-new mountain bike!" called out a man whose home Daniel visited frequently. “Morning, Mr. Warren! That's a really fancy bike!"Daniel screamed back at him as he rode towards his first delivery.
He couldn't help imagining what it would feel like to own a bike like the one Mr. Warren had just shown him. “My deliveries would double with that"he thought longingly.
Suddenly, Daniel lost balance and fell on the road. He got up and leaned the bike against the wall to see what had happened. He found a nail stuck in the back tire(轮胎)and he unluckily had a flat tire.
As he turned around and tried to think of what to do, he saw something unusual. A strange man Daniel had never seen before furtively (鬼鬼祟祟地)looked around and placed a package under his jacket.
