 A British man has learned the skills needed to perform Beijing Opera, making the audience enjoy his lively performance of the Monkey King.

 Ghaffar Pourazar, born in Iran, said he’s been a big fan of Bruce Lee since he was a child. In 1993, he happened to watch Beijing Opera performed in London by professionals from Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing. Ghaffar said he fell in love with the beautiful voices, colorful costumes, excellent shows and so on. So after one year, he came to China alone and became a student of Beijing Opera at a school in Beijing.

 At the age of 32, he had to lean with teenage students every day, starting from the most basic training of the legs and waist. At the time, he was mostly troubled by the dialogue in Beijing Opera. But he never gave up.

 Four years later, he began to learn to perform the Monkey King, a traditional character from the Chinese classic story: Journey to the West. He said he arrived in the workroom an hour earlier than other performers and also bought books and CDs jo better understand the character.

 Ghaffar today is not only good at speaking Beijing dialect (方言) but has also built a fame for Beijing Opera. He once got a top international prize for performing the Monkey King.

 To help more people enjoy Beijing Opera, Ghaffar often teaches the traditional art form in schools in the US, Britain and other countries. When he found that the language was difficult to understand. he started to translate Beijing Opera song lyrics.  One spring morning years ago, I was searching for gold in southeastern Alaska when I froze in my tracks-no more than 20 paces away was a huge Alaska timer wolf who was caught in a, trap!

 Frightened at my approach, the wolf backed away. Then I noticed something else: It was a female and has breast milk. Somewhere there must be some hungry pups waiting for her.

 From her appearance, I guessed she had been trapped for only a few days. So her pups were probably still alive, surely no more than a few miles away. She needed my help, I thought. But I doubted whether she would tear me to pieces after I released later.

 So I decided to search for her pups instead. Following some foot prints, I finally spotted four tiny pups. One by one, I placed them in a bag and headed back. Picking up the smell of her young, the mother wolf let out ahigh-pitched, sad call. Then those pups raced to her and she began to feed them.

 The mother wolf was clearly suffering. Yet, each time I moved closer, she would make a frightening growl. If I could only win her confidence, I thought, it was her only hope!

 Over the next few days, I talked gently with her, throwing her some meat. Gradually, I kept edging closer but still remained beyond the length of her trap chain.

 At dusk on the fifth day, I delivered-Her dinner. Suddenly, I saw a wagging of her tail I moved with in the length of her chain. She remained still. My heart in my mouth, I slowly placed my hand on the wolf’s injured leg. “OK!” I said, “T’ll get you out of here. I pressed and the trap sprang open. Then the wolf pulled free
