It’s always easier to say “Yes” because most of us want to please other people. Somebody asks you to go for a party but you have tests the next day, or to help them although you are busy at the moment, or to join the activities you have to interest in at all! Even though your heart is crying NO, you find the word “Yes“ coming out of your mouth. However, it usually results in anger-not only for the person who asked you, but also for yourself for not being strong enough.
Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee. Actually, she usually ended up having 20 coffee meetings a week and that stopped her from doing business because she didn’t have time to do her own work.
Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time. ”. She believes if you say“Yes”, you will regret later. Or your heart will be filled with guilt, fear or anger because you feel bad for agreeing to do something you never want to. So you need to be brave enough to say “No”when you’re asked at first.
Janine Garner, CEO of The LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time. Garner said, “We may end up saying “Yes’ because we feel sorry for somebody who needs us. But we end up having that awful feeling in our heart. You can only achieve the best of you by stopping doing the things that take up your time and don’t add anything towards your goals. Take a good look at the time spent on others, which you really should spend on yourself. ”
4. How does the writer lead in the topic?
A. By giving examples.
B. By telling a story.
C. By making a survey.
D. By asking questions.
5. What can we learn about Messenger?
A. She always agrees to help her workmates.
B. She knows how to refuse others politely.
C. She likes drinking coffee in her work time.
D. She feels angry when she can’t help others.
6. Which opinion would Janine Gamer probably agree with?
A. Offering help is the key to making friends.
B. Helping others may make you successful.
C. You’d better say “No” bravely if necessary.
D. People who need us will care about our time.
7. What’s the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
【答案】4. A 5. B 6. C 7. B

【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time.”(Messenger终于学会了拒绝,“不,对不起,我没有时间”)”可知,Messenger学会了委婉的拒绝对方,也就是礼貌的拒绝对方。故选B项。

【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中的“It’s always easier to say “Yes” because most of us want to please other people.(说“是”总是很容易,因为我们大多数人都想取悦别人)”可知,人们面对他人请求时总是回复“是”,并举例说明引出文章话题;根据第二段中的“Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee.(Collective Hub首席执行官Lisa Messenger说,在她创业的头几年,很多人请她边喝咖啡边聊天)”与第三段中的“Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time.”(Messenger终于学会了拒绝,“不,对不起,我没有时间。”)”可知这两段均是以Lisa Messenger为例来说明要学会拒绝;第四段中的“Janine Garner, CEO of The LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time.(LBD集团首席执行官Janine Garner认为,我们需要非常明确我们的目标。除非我们朝着我们的目标努力,否则没有人会关心我们的时间)”是以Janine Garner为例来说明必要的时候要大胆说“不”,综合以上分析,文章的结构如图B所示。故选B项。

Can plants talk? Modern research has found something amazing: they do communicate with each other.
It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked by insects. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. This is like a warning, or a call for help: “I’m being attacked!” When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others attract the wasps (黄蜂)! The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system, so that we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can’t hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Com and chili (辣椒) plants do this. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the “wood wide web”. The wood wide web is linked underground by fungi (霉菌). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and e- ven food with each other. However, it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from. each other, or spread chemicals to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a “firewall” to help prevent these attacks within the wood wide web.
Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to “talk” with them ourselves.
12. What will plants do when they are attacked by insects?
A. Produce chemicals as a warning or a call for help.
B. Send out signals to humans to ask for help.
C. Control the wasps to kill the insects.
D. Kill the insects by themselves.
13. How is the wood wide web linked by fungi?
A. By making noises with their roots.
B. By connecting the roots of different plants to each other.
C. By sharing food and information with1 each other.
D. By spreading chemicals to each other.
14 What is the writer’s purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To praise scientists for their great achievements.
B. To call on people to protect the plants on Earth.
C. To inspire people to communicate with plants.
D. To give people hope for further studies.
15. What is the text mainly about?
A. The secret language of plants.
B. The plants that give warnings.
C. Why scientists do research about plants.
D. The study about the plant warning system.
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. A

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficullt, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibity,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got full marks on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary — the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribusion” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the wordlist. “C-O-N-T-R-I-B-U-S-I-O-N,” he whispered. He spelled it wrong.
“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I’m a master at spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I’ll have to give my prize back, or I’ll become an example for telling a lie.”
Staring at the full marks written on his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”
Paragraph 1:
Slowly, Peter raised his hand.

Paragraph 1:
Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’tget full marks on the test. I made a mistake.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper, “I spelled contribution with‘s-i’instead of‘t-i’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. Mr. White held up Peter’s test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something ever more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter, “He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”
Paragraph 2:
Peter looked around. He found many of his classmates were smiling at him. “Peter, I want you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us,” Mr. White said. Peter took the dictionary from his teacher and expressed his thanks to Mr. White. Meanwhile, he could’t wait to show it to Mum and tell her one of his best days ever.
