When Roy Austin went on his first wildlife trip back in 2018, his only goal for the leisurely vacation was to catch sight of some African wildlife in its natural habitat—but he ended up finding something much more meaningful. He was most captivated(迷住)by the people he met in rural Kenya—particularly at the Amboseli Primary and Secondary School in Amboseli National Park.
In addition to befriending many of the students and teachers, Austin was surprised to learn how difficult it was to get books and school supplies for the children. "In rural Kenya, the government does not build school buildings. You either build it yourself or raise money to have it built," says Austin. "A teacher was asked if they had a library. She replied, ' No, but we would love to have a library.' That stuck in my mind."
When Austin eventually returned to his home in Bluffton, South Carolina, he launched Libraries for Kids International. Since starting the charity, Austin has managed to ship more than 1000 books to 11 schools across Kenya and Tanzania. He sends the books through the post office rather than FedEx to keep the shipping costs down.
As it continues to collect books and donations for additional shipments, Austin says that the charity is now helping to move a shipping container of 22, 000 books from Atlanta to Kenya. In the future, the philanthropist(慈善家)hopes to start sending donations to South America as well.
"Many people told me that it can't be done. It's too expensive to ship books, and they will disappear going through customs," Austin says. "However, every worthwhile project will have problems and barriers. If you focus on the problems, you will never start. On the contrary, if you focus on the aim and solve the problems as they arise, most anything is possible."
24. What problem does Austin find in rural Kenya?
A. Education depends on charity. B. Students lack education resources.
C. Books get lost going through customs. D. Families can't afford the kids' schooling.
25. What does Austin do for the people in rural Kenya?
A. He teaches at school. B. He funds a library for them.
C. He reduces the shipping costs. D. He ships books to schools.
26. What can we learn from Austin's story?
A. It is the first step that costs. B. Success belongs to the persevering.
C. Every bit of effort makes a big difference. D. Nothing is difficult to a determined mind.
27. Which of the following best describes Austin?
A. A crazy adventurer. B. A devoted educator.
C. A charity enthusiast. D. A passionate volunteer.

Sun Ruifeng, a mother in Beijing, changed some of her plans for her 8-year-old son’s summer vacation. She looked for an English tutoring course, but in the end, she changed it to a swimming training class. “Due to the stricter regulations (章程) on subject-tutoring classes, many parents like me choose sports or other projects for developing interests instead,” Sun said.
Sun’s choice is part of the result of the government’s growing efforts to lighten the academic pressure on young students. On July 24, Chinese authorities introduced a guideline to ease the burden of too much homework and off-campus tutoring for primary and junior high school students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and the difficulty of homework and improving the quality of education and after-class services provided by schools. For example, homework for children below the third grade is not allowed, while homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish.
According to the guideline, tutoring institutions (辅导机构) cannot teach students content that is too advanced for the school curriculum (课程). No tutoring courses can be taught on weekends, national holidays or during winter and summer vacations. The moves aim to bring education back as public welfare and guide the educational training industry to focus on improving students’ all-round quality, Chen Xianzhe, a professor at South China Normal University, told Xinhua.
According to Global Times, more than 75 percent of Chinese urban children, from grade 1 to grade 12, are enrolled (报名参加) in tutoring programs. However, some training institutions take part in anxiety marketing, selling unnecessary programs that increase the burden on students. This has led to many social problems such as students’ falling levels of physical fitness, more mental health problems and huge family costs, said Chu Zhaohui, a senior researcher with the National Institute of Education Sciences.
Many parents showed their support for the new moves. “Subject learning is enough at school and we hope to improve the children’s overall quality of life during holidays,” a parent in Guangzhou told Xinhua. However, there are also some concerns. Another parent in Shanxi said that although she agreed with the new moves, she worried about what her son would do after school if both parents have no time to be with him.
According to the guideline, primary and middle schools are asked to offer after school services, including homework tutoring, sports, arts, reading and interest groups.
28. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce a topic. B. To explain a reason.
C. To give an example. D. To make a suggestion.
29. What leads to Sun Ruifeng’s choice?
A Her concern for her son’s health.
B Schools’ reduced requirements for grades.
C. Her son’ passion for after-school activities.
D. The government’s effort to reduce academic pressure.
30. According to the guideline, what are tutoring institutions allowed to do?
A. Design courses intended for students’ all-round quality.
B. Provide tutoring programs increasing students’ pressure.
C. Teach students content far ahead of the school schedule.
D. Offer students courses on weekends and summer vacation.
31. What benefits will the guideline bring in the long term?
A. Some families will not spend money educating their children.
B. The subjects in school will be more popular among students.
C. Students will be physically and mentally healthier than before.
D. Parents won’t be worried about their kids’ academic performances.

Livestreaming is a kind of e-commerce and marketing and sales method. It combines live product demonstrations, time-limited pricing promotions, live negotiations, and instant ordering through online streaming services hosted either by an influencer studio, or online store.
Livestreaming removes barriers between brands and consumers. While it is focused on driving short term sales, livestreaming can enable firms to improve marketing efficiency by combining brand marketing and performance marketing. There are certain factors that will increase the chance of success.
Brands should not use livestreaming as a short-term sales booster but as a long-term way to remove barriers between brands and consumers. Specifically, brands could better demonstrate their products in this way, tell fuller brand stories, introduce emotional and cultural elements to their products, obtain instant feedback, conduct product trials, improve marketing efficiency by combining brand marketing and performance marketing, use different livestream hosts to build a bridge for the consumers and cultivate brand loyalty.
Of course, Livestreaming is not without drawbacks, however. For ads on TV, government has clear rules to forbid brands parading the before-and-after effects of health products. The restrictions are not clear yet for internet-based livestreaming, and health products are frequently promoted by livestreamers. We need to continue to monitor regulatory updates carefully.
As promoting products through live-streaming has been compared to “tuning clicks into cash,” some people have made illegal profits by creating false prosperity. Through the purchase of fake followers to increase shares and comments, some live streamers can falsify their rate of engagement to cheat brands and companies in an effort to win more trust and make more money. Meanwhile, live-streams have also faced issues like the return, refund and exchange of products.
32. What does the author advise the brands to do with Livestreaming?
A To achieve as much sales as possible.
B. To focus more on brand marketing.
C. To remove barriers between brands and consumers.
D. To build a bridge between consumers and government.
33. What does the underlined word “parading” probably mean?
A. Overstating B. Comparing C. Displaying D. Describing
34. How do live streamers create false prosperity?
A. By promoting the products as hard as possible. B. By creating fake comments and shares.
C. By speaking highly of the brands and firms. D. By refusing the exchange and the refund of products.
35. What’s the author’s attitude towards Livestreaming?
A. Supportive B. Neutral C. Critical D. Doubtful
【答案】32. C 33. A 34. B 35. B

【答案】36. F 37. A 38. E 39. G 40. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了国外留学生如何选择住所的几点建议。
【36题详解】
根据后文“However, it is possible that you may have a private room with a private bath or a roommate with a shared bathroom as part of a suite . (然而,你拥有一个独立房间和独立浴室,或者合租套房拥有一个共享浴室的室友是可能的)”可知,这句中However说明与前文是转折关系,且后面“ it is possible”和F项“You may be worried that you can’t find satisfying dorms which are well equipped.(你可能担心你不能找到一个设施很完善的房子)”中“you can’t find”形成对应。说明虽然不可能找到完美房子,但是找满足基本条件的还是可以的,所以F切题。故选F项。
【37题详解】
根据下文“Despite this, you will have to share the bathroom as well as other common spaces with the family.(尽管这样,你将不得不和这家庭分享浴室和其它共同空间)”可知,这句中Despite this表示转折概念,而A选项“You will generally have a private room(你将通常拥有一个独立房间)”中“private room”和后文的“share the bathroom ”形成对应,表示虽然寝室是独立的,但还是会分享很多其它空间,所以A选项切题。故选A项。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Although homestays are quite affordable, families often tend to live away from the universities.(虽然家庭寄宿是不贵的,但是这些家庭通常离大学很远)”可知,家庭寄宿的主要问题是离学校远。且E选项“In this case, you may spend time and money on local transportation., you may spend time and money on local transportation.(这种情况,你可能会花更多时间和钱在交通方面)”中花更多钱和时间在交通和前文离学校远形成因果关系。且In this case代指前面远的这件事,所以E项切题。故选E项。
【39题详解】
根据上文“Renting an apartment will allow you to enjoy freedom, privacy and independence.(租公寓将允许你享受自由,隐私和独立)”可知,这里主要讲租公寓的好处,而下文“Some landlords might ask you to pay a security deposit before renting”和“Apart from the rent, you will also have to manage the bills, Wi-Fi and even stock your own fridge”,可知,租了公寓你不得不交保证金,交各种账单等,所以前后文应该由转折关系,而G项的“However”一个转折,后面说租公寓让你远离不同文化经历和当地人的联系。符合与上文转折关系,和下文并列关系。故选G项。
【40题详解】
根据后文“ If you worry about security problems, you can live in a dormitory for your first year and then live elsewhere(如果你担心安全问题,你可以第一年住宿舍然后再住其它地方。)”中的if和D选项的if并列。且D选项中“If you are still not sure where to live, ask seniors for suggestions.(如果你仍然不确定住哪里,向你学长寻求建议)”中If you are still表示在作者给了这么多建议后,你还是有问题的话,可以咨询学长。这句适合放在文章结尾处对上文的总结。故选D项。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。
Agatha was in the library, reading the Girl Detective series, when she noticed something strange. Her best friends, Timmy and Florence, were talking to each other in whispers while keeping a good, safe distance from her! When she waved at them, they looked away.
Things only got stranger in art class. Timmy and Florence went to sit at a different table from Agatha busy painting and glanced at her when they thought she wasn’t looking.
Now, Agatha considered herself to be something of a detective. After all, she had read many detective stories for children and even had an old broken magnifying glass(放大镜)abandoned by her father. When the rest of the class went out for lunch, she slipped to Timmy and Florence’s table and examined it carefully with the magnifying glass.
There was paint, and red and pink construction paper. What could they be doing? This was definitely a mystery that needed solving!
After lunch Timmy and Florence chatted to her as if nothing was going on, but they kept smiling at her in a slightly strange way. Of course, Agatha could have asked them what they were up to, and they might have told her -but she wouldn’t have a chance to become a detective!
On the way home from school, Florence and her mum happened to walk ahead of Agatha and her mum. Agatha saw them go into the bookshop. Strange, again. Florence didn’t read much—no matter how many detective stories Agatha recommended to her!
The next day at school, Agatha kept an eye on her friends and tried to work out their mystery, but they seemed determined to keep things secret. She asked them if they would like to play with her after school, but they said they couldn’t because they were busy. Even more mysterious…
When Agatha’s mum came to pick her up after school, she was so lost in the unsolved mystery that she hardly noticed her busy father was coming along, which was unusual. When they arrived home, her father said she could go into the living room.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Opening the door of the living room, Agatha heard voices shout from darkness, “SURPRISE!”

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Opening the door of the living room, Agatha heard voices shout from darkness, “SURPRISE!”. When she entered the darkened living room, the lights came on suddenly. Her best friend Timmy and Florence were there, grinning! On the table were a cake with candles and a pile of presents. Mum and Dad followed her into the living-room and lit the candles, saying: “Happy Birthday, dear. You were so distracted by the mystery to be solved as to forget today is your birthday! Now, blow the candles, make a wish and enjoy the cake.”
After eating the cake, Agatha got down to the business of opening her birthday presents. The first gift was the big red and pink birthday card with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written on it in Timmy and Florence’s childish handwriting. “We hope you like the card we made for you!” said Timmy, and Florence added, “We also bought the latest Sherlock Holmes Detective series for you!” Agatha hugged her friends in appreciation of their surprise gifts. Mum and Dad handed her a brand-new magnifying glass in place of the old broken one. Agatha might not have solved the mystery, but it was still a wonderful birthday party!
