Seeing the text from Kathy: A family picnic this weekend? I found my hands began to sweat; my heart beat hard. I wanted to yell, "No! Why would you suggest that? I thought we were friends!" I hated picnics.
My hatred of them began as a child. I always got car-sick and it was hot all the way. Air conditioning in vehicles was pretty much unheard of in 1980s Birmingham, and my mother insisted on having all the windows closed because of the unpleasant smell of gas. We would arrive at some faraway destination, usually a car park with a field attached next to a plant, and unpack tasteless and sandwiches, nearly cold sausage rolls and disgusting salads. There were never any toilets, so we had to “go” behind a bush; the memory of being discovered by a random dog-walker still embarrasses me from time to time. My mother sat in a relaxed way on a rug (小毯子)while we girls were playing nearby or maybe lying next to her. But for me this was a time when I suffered a lot. It was frightening to be attacked by ants or spot a dead rabbit in the grass.
As an adult I'd avoided all picnics, but this time I couldn't. I just said yes, without letting
Kathy sense my true feeling about them. She is my best friend and sometimes you must make sacrifices for people you like a lot. “I'll bring the food, and you bring the drink,” she said.
My ridiculously enthusiastic family and I arrived at the picnic site. My expectations were
low. Kathy and her husband Dave unloaded folding tables, chairs, a table cloth and ... a cool box of delicious food mostly purchased from a local deli(熟食店), which does all manner of pre-prepared salads and cold cuts. There was fresh bread, olives, even candles to keep away insects, music, and wine. It was completely delightful. There may have been children playing around too, even if one of them did find a dead bird (told you!). I am now a picnic enthusiast and we're planning another. I'm even reading up on picnic recipes for it!
56.What was the author’s attitude towards Kathy's suggestion according to the first
    paragraph?
    A. Supportive. B. Opposed. C. Indifferent D. Embarrassed
57.What can be inferred from the author’s childhood picnics?
    A. The food was delightful.
    B. She enjoyed the journey.
    C. She thought the wild unpleasing.
    D. She could talk with her mother alone.
    高二英语,第5页,共 9 页
    58. Why did the author accept Kathy's picnic invitation?
    A. Because she liked the picnic place.
    B. Because her family wanted to have the picnic.
    C. Because she didn't want to hurt Kathy’s feelings.
    D. Because Kathy promised her a good picnic.
59.What can we infer about Kathy and her husband?
    A. They are great picnic organizer. B. They have good manners.
    C. They are animal-friendly people. D. They made careless of the picnic.
    60. Why did the author write the text?
    A. To remember an unforgettable trip.
    B. To record her memories of family picnics.
    C. To express her thanks to her friend Kathy.
    D. To describe her changed attitude to picnics
    C
Soot(煤灰) pollution is speeding up climate-driven melting(融化) in Antarctica, a new study suggests, raising questions about how to protect the delicate continent from the increasing number of humans who want to visit.
“It really makes us question, is our presence really needed?”says AliaKhan, one of the
authors of the new study.“We have quite a large black carbon footprint in Antarctica, which is enhancing snow and ice melt.”
Black carbon is the leftover thing from burning plants or fossil fuels(化石燃料). Soot in
Antarctica comes primarily from waste gases of cruise ships(游轮), vehicles, airplanes and electrical generators, although some pollution travels on the wind from other parts of the
globe. The dark particles(微粒) coat white snow and absorb heat from the sun the way a black
T-shirt does on a warm day. The blanket of dark bits speeds up melting that was already happening more quickly because of global warming. When snow and ice are uncovered, they reflect an enormous amount of sunlight before it can turn into heat.
“These are the mirrors on our planet,” says Sonia Nagorski, a scientist at the University
of Alaska Southeast.“When those mirrors are covered in a film of dark bits, they are less reflective. That means more heat is trapped on Earth, speeding up melting and contributing to global warming.”
As a scientist who personally visits Antarctica every year, Khan says she is troubled by
her own research results. On the one hand, she goes to Antarctica to collect crucial data about how quickly the snow and ice there are disappearing. “But then when we come to conclusions like this it really does make us think twice about how frequently we need to visit the continent,” she says,“ and what kind of regulations should be placed on tourism as well.”That could mean requiring that cruise ships and vehicles be electric, for example, or limiting the number of visitors each year.
61.Which of the following is a major source of soot in Antarctica?
    A. Burnt plants. B. Fossil fuels underneath Antarctica.
    C. Black carbon elsewhere. D. Tourist vehicles.
    高二英语,第6页,共 9 页
    62. What are the feelings expressed in Khan's words in paragraph 2?
    A. Confidence and courage. B. Doubt and concern.
    C. Anger and disappointment. D. Optimism and certainty.
    63. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
    A. Snow. B. Ice. C. Soot. D. Sunlight.
    64. What does Nagorski say about soot?
    A. It reflects a large volume of sunlight.
    B. It is increasing in amount because of wind.
    C. It causes Antarctic surface temperature to rise.
    D. It is like a big mirror on Earth.
    65. What might Khan do in the future?
    A. Help design scientific research regulations.
    B. Use electric cars for her daily transportation.
    C. Collect more data about Antarctica.
    D. Reduce her visits to Antarctica.
    D
In the past few years, I have found mental illness has been a term largely avoided in conversation, and this has built a huge stigma against those suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental diseases. What’s worse, mental illness is only brought up when the news draw our attention to it, but then the conversation quiets until the next tragedy happens.
It’s time for the conversation to continue. Instead of waiting for the next tragedy, we need
to be open about mental health and about the struggles that come with mental illness and
treatment. We need to develop an environment where people feel comfortable to seek the help they need instead of concealing it.
It took a long time, but I am now open about my anxiety and depression. I am open about
my taking medicine to treat my mental illness. I am open about the struggle of finding the medicine that works. I encourage everyone to do the same. Be honest and open with your conversations about mental health. The more comfortable people are with these conversations, the easier it will be for the conversation to continue. A continued conversation will lead to more ideas on treatment and more ideas on how to give help to those who need it.
We have the ability to help those we love and break the stigma around mental illness and
change the idea that it’s something that needs to be cured. Mental illness can actually affect anyone, impacting one out of every four people.
In short, let’s keep the conversation about mental health and mental illness open. Be sure
to check up on your friends, and be open about the importance of mental health. If you’re uncomfortable, share your story, which may let others know they are not alone. Just as Albus Dumbledore said, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Therefore remember to turn on the light.
66.What does the underlined word “stigma” mean in Paragraph 1?
    A. consumption B. shame C. status D. invasion
67.What’s the author’s tone in the first paragraph?
    A. Humorous B. Serious C. Supportive D. Cheerful
68.Why does the author talk about his own experience in Paragraph 3?
    高二英语,第7页,共 9 页
    A. To introduce how the author’s mental illness have been cured
    B. To tell us how important a comfortable conversation is.
    C. To tell people what a bad experience the author once had.
D.To encourage those people with mental illness to talk about their problems.
    69. What does the author want to say with Albus Dumbledore’s words?
    A. It’s good to talk with those lonely people.
    B. People have a tendency to ignore mental illness.
    C. One’s happiness can cheer up others in low spirits.
    D. Care and sharing may help those with mental illness out.
    70. what can be suitable title for the text?
    A. Shine a light on mental health
    B. No conversations on mental health.
    C. No tragedies caused by mental illness.
    D. Seek ways to cure mental illness.

Every child has a dream of what they want to be, right? When Renee Butts was little, her dream was to become a volunteer firefighter because her father was one. Sadly, when she was 14, her beloved father passed away and she was unable to do volunteer work with him. However, she was determined and never gave up, which makes for a good firefighter.
Now Renee is a member of the Carmel Fire Department, where she is required to be an
Emergency Medical Technician. She should also be ready to deal with any emergency, like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who’s sick. Sometimes she is in the driver’s seat or using the water pump. Renee works nine to eleven days a month on 24-hour shifts. She also has a family to care for, as her husband is also a busy firefighter. Dealing with housework and working so much can show her great determination.
When I asked Renee what the best part of her job is, she replied, “Helping people and the
satisfaction of saving lives.” I think that shows signs of being a true hero. She’s always willing to do anything for anyone in need. Renee says that her job is frightening at times, but
    高二英语,第8页,共 9 页
extremely exciting. “The worst part of my job is that I see death. Actually, sometimes, people die in the accident, for which I was very sorry,” said Renee.
I was inspired by this because I know I would be very scared to do her job and don’t
know if I could handle seeing people die. With 140 people in her station, Renee is one of the only three women, but that doesn’t bother her. She says everyone gets a fair shot and they all do the same jobs.
We would never live without people like her who have the courage to risk their lives.
Renee’s determination rubs off on me and helps me believe that I can do anything.

However, they have also caused some problems, such as air pollution and traffic jams. It seems to have become one of the biggest causes of air pollution and global warming. So we should take action to solve the problems. In my opinion, riding bicycles is a good solution. For one thing, bicycles are energy-saving and environmental friendly. For another, riding bicycles is good for our health.
Therefore, let's build up a low-carbon city by riding bicycles. Come and join
