For Matt and Dani Fontanesi, everything was going according to plan. The American newlyweds had just been married in February and were preparing for their honeymoon. They would leave their home in New Zealand to set off on a tour of the United States.
Matt developed a bit of a cold before leaving but didn't think much of it. During the first 14-hour leg of their flight, though, Matt's simple cold developed into a high fever. When they got to Idaho, he felt even worse. As three days passed and Matt stayed in bed, Dani took him to the hospital. When the doctor came back with the blood test results, his lighthearted attitude from earlier had noticeably changed. The patient's white blood cells were dangerously low. It was either AIDS or cancer.
Three days later, the news came: acute myeloid leukemia(急性骨髓性白血病). About 90 percent of Matt's blood was cancerous, so he'd have to start chemotherapy(化疗) right away. There was a catch—treatment would mean Matt could never have kids. Even knowing their chances of starting a family were gone, they had no choice but to continue.
Chemotherapy clearly was not enough, so Matt needed a bone marrow transplant(骨髓移植). His sister was the perfect match, and they flew to San Diego for the treatment. The bone marrow transplant destroyed what was left of Matt's immune system and got rid of the cancer.
In the middle of Matt's fight against cancer, they received all ﹩80, 000 they needed within about a week, much of it from complete strangers.
The treatment went better than expected, and a year later, Matt was already back at work in San Diego. But he and his wife have never stopped thinking about the unexpected generosity that came their way. “How do we responsibly accept this?” says Matt. “We recognized we needed to pay this forward and to help fight against leukemia.” The two have been volunteering with the Leukemia &Lymphoma Society, supporting other families going through similar struggles.
“We have a new appreciation for life. Our lives are richer now because of it,” says Dani.
4.What can we learn about Matt after he arrived at Idaho?
    A.He started his honeymoon happily.
B.He prepared to go back home.
    C.He was terribly weak.
    D.He caught a cold.
5.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “catch” in Paragraph 3?
    A.Failure. B.Chance. C.Solution. D.Disadvantage.
6.What can we infer about Matt's treatment?
    A.It was successful.
    B.It was impractical.
C.It was kept secret from his families.
D.It was mostly supported by an organization.
7.How did Matt’s experience influence him?
A.He managed to become a doctor.
B.He decided to help others in return.
C.He started to found a charity for poor patients.
D.He promised to give the money back to the strangers.
    【答案】4-7 CDAB
During the first 14-hour leg of their flight, though, Matt's simple cold developed into a high fever. When they got to Idaho, he felt even worse.
A. Failure.
The bone marrow transplant destroyed what was left of Matt's immune system and got rid of the cancer. The treatment went better than expected, and a year later, Matt was already back at work in San Diego. 故选A。
根据倒数第二段中“We recognized we needed to pay this forward and to help fight against leukemia.” The two have been volunteering with the Leukemia &Lymphoma Society, supporting other families going through similar struggles.

    C
Growing up, we are constantly reminded that young people are heavily affected by technology. We are the “antisocial club”, those who prefer to text our friends in the same room rather than make eye contact with them. And even though never-ending studies reveal to us the extent of our social media addiction, we should at least consider that it’s not only our young people’s problem any more.
There’s the rise of the Instagram mums, who like to post an abundance of cute baby pictures, share their mom feelings along the way and show their wonderful lifestyles. They are the so-called “Facebook mum generation”, a growing group of parents that like to overshare.
While all of this might be fine, and even a little humorous, new research suggests that parents’ technology addiction is negatively affecting their children’s behavior. According to the study, 40% of mothers and 32% of fathers have admitted having some sort of phone addiction. This has led to a significant fall in verbal interactions within families and even a decline in mothers’ encouraging their children.
There is no denying that I get annoyed when receiving the words “I’ll be with you soon” from a parent, when all I want to do is ask one question. But, at the same time, every day leaving the room to wait until my father is finished with his “serious business” (Farmville), has now become the norm. Whether you want to escape your disturbing children for a bit, or want to stay up late flicking through Twitter, know that wanting to do all of these is normal. We, your children, know how addictive it can be and how difficult it is to switch off. But before telling us to put our phones away at the table or even worse, listing statistics of how damaging social media can be for us, maybe lead by example, considering how much time you spend on the phone and how this is impacting your children and your relationship with us. Maybe in this way we can work on our addiction together.
8.What can we know about teenagers nowadays in Paragraph1?
A.They enjoy socializing with their friends.
B.They send messages to their friends every day.
C.They hate to make eye contact with their friends.
D.They are heavily addicted to their mobile phones.
9.What does the author think of mums’ oversharing?
    A.Boring. B.Selfish. C.Funny. D.Meaningful.
10.What does the underlined word “norm” in Paragraph 4 probably means?
    A.Security. B.Standard. C.Routine. D.Custom.
11.What’s the main purpose of the article?
A.To share the author’s own experience with the readers.
B.To call on parents to get rid of their own media addiction.
C.To reveal that parents are always addicted to mobile phones.
D.To show the author’s dissatisfaction with parents’ phone use.
    【答案】8-11 DCCB
第一段中提到“And even though never-ending studies reveal to us the extent of our social media addiction, we should at least consider that it’s not only our young people’s problem any more.”
根据第三段“While all of this might be fine, and even a little humorous”可推知,作者认为妈妈们的过度分享是滑稽可笑的,故选C。
根据画线词后文“Whether you want to escape your disturbing children for a bit, or want to stay up late flicking through Twitter, know that wanting to do all of these is normal.”
根据最后一段中“But before telling us to put our phones away at the table or even worse, listing statistics of how damaging social media can be for us, maybe lead by example, considering how much time you spend on the phone and how this is impacting your children and your relationship with us. Maybe in this way we can work on our addiction together.( 但是,在告诉我们把手机收起来放在桌子上,或者更糟糕的是,列出社交媒体对我们有多大伤害的统计数据之前,也许可以以身作则,考虑一下你花在手机上的时间有多长,这对你的孩子以及你和我们的关系有什么影响。也许通过这种方式,我们可以一起努力解决我们的成瘾问题)”可推知,这篇文章的目的是呼吁家长们摆脱对媒体的沉迷。故选B。

    D
There is more of a connection between food and culture than you may think. On an individual level, we grow up eating the food of our culture. It becomes a part of who we are. Many associate food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us. Food from our family often becomes the comfort food we seek as adults in times of frustration and stress.
On a large scale, traditional food is an important part of culture. It also operates as an expression of culture identity. Immigrants bring it wherever they go, and it is a symbol of pride for their culture and means of coping with homesickness.
Many immigrants open their own restaurants and serve traditional dishes. However, the food does not remain exactly the same. Some materials needed to make traditional dishes may not be readily available, so the taste and flavor can be different from what they would prepare in their home countries. Additionally, immigrants do not only sell dishes to people from the same countries as them, but to people from different countries. Therefore, they have to make small changes about the original dishes to cater to a wider range of customers. Those changes can create new flavors that still keep the cultural significance of the dishes.
We should embrace our heritage(传统)through our culture’s food but also become more informed about other cultures by trying their food. It is important to remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to those who prepare it. Food is a window into culture, and it should be treated as such.
12.What’s the function of food mentioned in the article?
A.To help motivate homesickness. B.To show national identity.
    C.To reflect a country’s history. D.To show a community’s superiority.
13.What does the underlined “it” in Paragraph2 refer to?
A.The specific traditional food. B.The national culture.
C.A traditional expression of food. D.The old-fashioned taste.
14.Why do some immigrants have to change the original dishes in their restaurant?
A.To attach cultural importance to their dishes.
B.To announce the beginning of their life on foreign soil.
C.To make the dishes popular among customers.
D.To present their own food culture in a new way.
15.What’s the author’s attitude towards different food cultures?
    A.Negative. B.Balanced.
    C.Unfair. D.Unchangeable.
    【答案】12-15 BACB
It also operates as an expression of culture identity. Immigrants bring it wherever they go, and it is a symbol of pride for their culture and means of coping with homesickness.
It also operates as an expression of culture identity. 故选A。
Additionally, immigrants do not only sell dishes to people from the same countries as them, but to people from different countries.
We should embrace our heritage(传统)through our culture’s food but also become more informed about other cultures by trying their food.

Fear of missing out or FOMO is characterized by “a desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing”.
Researchers have found that FOMO leads us to check social media more frequently, leading to a negative cycle that can be hard to break. 16 Your mood will be easily influenced by others and your life starts to be controlled by the outside world. However, the situation can be improved if you take the following advice.
17 Try to reduce our screen time, focus on building your own path to success and do what you like. Live in the moment, you will find nothing is missing out in our life!
It is common to post on social media to keep a record of the fun things you do. 18 If this is the case, you may try to keep a personal journal of your best memories, either online or on paper. Keeping a journal can help you to shift your focus from public approval to private appreciation of the things that make your life great. 19
You may find yourself seeking a greater connection when you are feeling depressed or anxious, and this is healthy. Feelings of loneliness are actually our brain’s way of telling us that we want to seek out greater connections with others and increase our sense of belonging. 20 Talking with families, making plans with a good friend, or creating a group outing that can help you to shake that feeling that you are missing out.
    A.You actually can’t miss anything.
B.Especially the young are addicted to the social media.
C.Rather than focusing on what you lack, try noticing what you have.
D.This shift can sometimes help you to get out of the cycle of FOMO.
E.As a result, it will lead to feelings of depression, loneliness, and boredom.
    F. However, you may find yourself noticing too much about people’s opinion on your experiences online.
    G. Rather than connect with people on social media, why not arrange to meet up with someone in person?
    【答案】16-20 ECFDG
16.根据上文“Researchers have found that FOMO leads us to check social media more frequently, leading to a negative cycle that can be hard to break.” As a result, it will lead to feelings of depression, loneliness, and boredom.表示:最终会导致抑郁、孤独和无聊的心理状态,承接前文;并且也契合下文“Your mood will be easily influenced by others and your life starts to be controlled by the outside world”,故选E项。
17.根据上文第二段末句“However, the situation can be improved if you take the following advice.” 结合空后下文“Try to reduce our screen time, focus on building your own path to success and do what you like. Live in the moment, you will find nothing is missing out in our life!”。C项Rather than focusing on what you lack, try noticing what you have.
18.空前“It is common to post on social media to keep a record of the fun things you do.”可知,前面肯定这种社交媒体分享日常是一种常见现象,空后“If this is the case, you may try to keep a personal journal of your best memories, either online or on paper.” However, you may find yourself noticing too much about people’s opinion on your experiences online.
19.该空作为本段的末句,承接上文“Keeping a journal can help you to shift your focus from public approval to private appreciation of the things that make your life great.” This shift can sometimes help you to get out of the cycle of FOMO.
20.根据下文“Talking with families, making plans with a good friend, or creating a group outing that can help you to shake that feeling that you are missing out.” Rather than connect with people on social media, why not arrange to meet up with someone in person?

    36.flew 37.accounts 38.was calculated 39.highest 40.the
    41.truly 42.commercial 43.where 44.to find 45.as
故填the。
故填where。
故填to find。
固定短语:be known as“作为……而闻名”。故填as。

Once when Mike was a child, maybe eight years old, he had a frightening experience. Mike thinks about it frequently. He was in his house with all his family. Mike cannot remember when it happened very well, but it was possibly at Christmas. They were going to have a big supper and Mike was very happy because he liked to eat a lot. Besides, Mike hadn't eaten for a long time. Therefore, he was starving. He became very angry, because Mike saw his mother and his aunt talking for a long time. This made him angry, because Mike didn't want to wait any longer. Moreover, it was time for having supper. Weren't they starving?

Time passed, and finally dinner was on the table. The first dish was “puchero”. Puchero is one of his favorite dishes; this dish has chicken, rice, vegetables, and pork. Also, it's a very hot dish, so usually you need to wait at least half an hour before you start to eat. You can enjoy its taste better when it's not so hot. Nevertheless, when Mike saw it on the table, he got a spoon and started to eat quickly. In a moment, his face was red, and there was a strange feeling on his tongue. Mike had burned it. Immediately, Mike shouted in pain and his mother asked him, “What is the matter?”
“Mother, help me! I think my tongue is going to fall off! Send me to see the doctor. ”Mike screamed crazily.

Then his father and Mike went to the hospital. When they arrived there, Mike tried to tell the doctor his problem, but Mike could not do it because he was very nervous. His father did it for him. Mike does not remember his father's words exactly, but he said something like, “Doctor, I think my son burned his tongue, because he ate a pretty hot dish.” “Open your mouth,” the doctor said after he'd heard his father's words.
Mike did it slowly. He looked at his tongue for a long time. "Do not worry, little guy. Your tongue is very hot, but it will not fall off," the doctor finally said. When the doctor said that, his father started laughing happily. Soon the doctor was also laughing. He was embarrassed.
However, Mike was happy because his tongue would not fall off. Mike has learned one important thing since that day. Patience is a great virtue. Mike thinks this is the funniest experience that he has had in his life.
