Joe Clark was a non-traditional high school president whose unusual way of encouraging his students became the subject of a 1989 Hollywood movie.
“You are not inferior (低人一等)”was what Clark would often tell his students at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. Many of the Eastside students were African American or Latino. They grew up in a difficult environment. Many of the students who attended the school faced violence, crime, drugs and troubled family life.
Before becoming an educator, Clark served in the US Army. His experience might have influenced how he ran his school. He was known to walk around with a bull horn and a baseball bat. In Clark's first days of working at Eastside High School, he made the decision to expel 300 students for fighting, abusing teachers and drug possession. Clark believed that students had to be shocked often to understand the influences that could prevent them from succeeding in school and in life.
President Ronald Reagan offered Clark a White House policy adviser position after his success at the high school. In 1989, actor Morgan Freeman played Clark in the movie Lean on Me. That movie was based on Clark's experiences at Eastside High School.“Joe was a father figure to school kids,” Freeman said. “He was the best of the best in terms of education.”
Of course, not everyone supported his methods. One teacher, Franklin Hearn, said in 1988 that his methods were more like being in a labor camp than a public high school.
But Thomas McEntyre, one of the 300 students who were kicked out of Eastside High School, said, “I never really got a chance to... thank you. We are your product. You did not fail us. Although you kicked me out, you did not fail me. You bettered me.”
After he retired from Eastside in 1989, Clark wrote a book called Laying Down the Law. He described how he managed to turn Eastside High from a failing school into a success.
4.What can we learn about Eastside High School?
A.It once belonged to a labor camp.
    B.Many students were not clever.
C.It was a special school for troubled kids.
D.Many students were from problem families.
5.What does the underlined word “expel” in paragraph 3 mean?
    A.Sign up. B.Search for.
    C.Kick out. D.Focus on.
6.Who plays a role in the movie Lean on Me?
    A.Joe Clark. B.Ronald Reagan.
    C.Morgan Freeman. D.Thomas McEntyre.
7.Which of the following can best describe Joe Clark?
    A.Cruel. B.Inspiring.
    C.Generous. D.Hardworking.
根据第二段“Many of the students who attended the school faced violence, crime, drugs and troubled family life.”
根据第三段划线词所在句“In Clark's first days of working at Eastside High School, he made the decision to expel 300 students for fighting, abusing teachers and drug possession.”和第六段“But Thomas McEntyre, one of the 300 students who were kicked out of Eastside High School, said,…”
根据第四段“In 1989, actor Morgan Freeman played Clark in the movie Lean on Me. That movie was based on Clark's experiences at Eastside High School.”

Shaoxing of East China’s Zhejiang Province, Dunhuang in Northwest China’s Gansu Province, Suncheon in South Korea and Kitakyushu in Japan were selected through votes held in their respective countries in 2020. Choosing Dunhuang and Shaoxing at the same time marks the first time that one country has selected two cities in the program.

Tests have shown robots can diagnose heart problems in as little as four seconds, as a review of artificial intelligence(AI) finds machines are now as good at spotting illness as doctors.
Analyzing a patient’s heart function on a cardiac MRI(心脏磁共振成像) scan currently takes doctors around 13 minutes. But a new trial by University College London (UCL) showed an AI program could read the scans in less time with equal accuracy. There are approximately 150,000 such scans performed in the UK each year, and researchers estimate that fully using AI to read them could save 54 clinician-days(临床天数) at each cardiac centre per year. So it can make up for the shortage of doctors.
It is hoped that AI where computer systems are able to learn from data to identify new patterns with minimal human intervention will transform medicine by helping doctors spot diseases such as heart disease and cancer faster and earlier. However, most scans are still read by specially trained doctors.
Dr Charlotte Manisty, who led the UCL research, said, “Cardiovascular MRI offers incomparable image quality for assessing heart structure and function. However, current manual analysis remains basic and outdated. Automated machine techniques offer the potential to change this and completely improve efficiency and accuracy, and we look forward to further research that could confirm the superiority to human analysis.”
She added, “Our dataset of patients with a range of heart disease who received scans enabled us to demonstrate that the greatest sources of measurement errors arise from human factors. This indicates that automated techniques are at least as good as humans, with the potential soon to be ‘super-human’—transforming clinical and research measurement precision.”
Professor Alastair Denniston said, “Within those handful of high-quality studies, we found that by deep learning Al could indeed detect disease ranging from cancer to eye disease as accurately as health professionals. But it’s important to note that it did not absolutely exceed human professional diagnosis.”
    32. Which of the following can best describe this AI program?
    A. Time-consuming. B. Environmentally friendly.
    C. Extremely unpractical. D. Labor-saving.
    33. What is Charlotte Manisty’s expectation of automated machine techniques?
    A. To treat eye disease faster and earlier.
    B. To analyze heart disease efficiently and accurately.
    C. To combine manual with automated analysis.
    D. To confirm heart structure and function.
    34. What did Alastair Denniston say about AI?
    A. It would be super-human soon.
    B. It couldn’t completely replace expert doctors.
    C. It would correct professionals’ measurement errors.
    D. It couldn’t detect cancer as accurately as health professionals.
    35. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. AI has many shortcomings in practice.
    B. AI totally shows its superiority to human analysis.
    C. AI can reduce medical errors arising from human factors.
    D. AI can diagnose heart disease as well as doctors in less time.
根据第二段“So it can make up for the shortage of doctors.”
根据最后一段中“But it’s important to note that it did not absolutely exceed human professional diagnosis.”(但重要的是要注意,它不可能完全超过人类的专业诊断。)
根据第一段“Tests have shown robots can diagnose heart problems in as little as four seconds, as a review of artificial intelligence (AI) finds machines are now as good at spotting illness as doctors.”(测试表明,机器人诊断心脏问题的时间最短可在4秒内完成。

A favorite musical tune can fuel positive memories, boost your mood, and create a relaxing setting. 36 Here are some ways to dig into the power of music。
Having trouble staying motivated during workout? 37 Research in the November 2019 Psychology of Sport and Exercise found that upbeat music can make a workout seem less challenging and more enjoyable. In the study, people performed high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The exercisers in the music group reported enjoying their workout more than those in the slow or non-music groups.
38 But waking up to a pleasant tone instead of a sharp alarm can reduce morning sleepiness and improve efficiency, suggests a study published online Jan. 28, 2020, by PLoS One. Set your smart phone alarm to play soft, harmonic sounds or a relaxing tune. 2169 002050
Music helps to relieve stress in a medical procedure. An analysis of 72 trials involving almost 7,000 patients found that patients who listened to music before, during, and after surgery reported less pain. Earlier studies had found that listening to music during dental work lowered people's anxiety levels. Music produces a calming effect by stimulating the brain's pleasure region. The right choice of music also appears to be necessary. I 39 “Music that is predictable can promote feelings of control and calm,” she says.
Many studies have shown that students who listen to slow and peaceful sounds have less anxiety. According to Diaz - Falcon, these sounds provide a calming environment and block distractions in your thought process. She says, “Peaceful music is also believed to activate areas in your brain responsible for analytically thinking and creativity, as well as increasing the brain's ability to absorb and store information.” 40
    A.Try some relaxing music.
B.Turn up some music with a fast beat.
C.Music has long served as a sleep aid.
D.Professor Diaz- Falcon says music can increase your energy.
    E. Try listening to such sounds the next time you face a complex task.
    F. People respond best to familiar music, according to Professor Diaz- Falcon.
    G. Used in specific ways, music is also a valuable tool for supporting your health.
36.前文“A favorite musical tune can fuel positive memories, boost your mood, and create a relaxing setting.( 一首最喜欢的音乐曲调可以激发积极的记忆,提升你的情绪,并创造一个放松的环境。)”
37.设空处后文提到“Research in the November 2019 Psychology of Sport and Exercise found that upbeat music can make a workout seem less challenging and more enjoyable(2019年11月的运动和锻炼心理学研究发现,乐观的音乐可以让锻炼看起来不那么具有挑战性,而更令人愉快)”这里的“upbeat”与B项中的“fast beat”相对应。
且设空后方有一个转折连词but,后文“But waking up to a pleasant tone instead of a sharp alarm can reduce morning sleepiness and improve efficiency”讲到要伴随愉快的音调的音乐起床,跟睡眠有关。
39.设空处前面“The right choice of music also appears to be necessary.”
40.本段第一句“Many studies have shown that students who listen to slow and peaceful sounds have less anxiety.”
