Gong Linna, renowned Chinese musician and founder of Chinese New Art Music, put her music teaching methods to practice for the first time at the Tracing Roots practice concert and music festival of the Affiliated High School of Peking University on May 23.
The first song of the concert, Search High and Low, is an allusion (暗指)to the classical poem Li Sao, "The road ahead will be long. 1 shall search high and low." "It's arranged to be sung by all performers, indicating that we should all search high and low for our roots," Gong says.
To explore the education and the popularization of Chinese music, in 2017, Gong established a research and development team, which includes ethnomusicologist, Du Yaxiong, and music historian, Zhao Zhongming, to deliberate her music teaching methods and summarize the vocal skills of Chinese music.
Gong believed that the popularization of Chinese music should rely on primary and secondary schools rather than music academies. The children's passion for music and their outstanding performance amazed Gong, "When singing, they are completely immersed in the music. Music brings light and richness to one's spiritual world. So, learning to sing is never about passing examinations, but about enjoying the music."
Lu Yueming, instructor of the school's art center, said, "The children worked really hard and kept in mind Gong's instructions. Seeing their performance, I know that they truly fell in love with traditional Chinese music."
"Seeing the children perform my pieces, I realized I should write more songs for them," Lao Luo, Gong's husband said proudly. "It's a great encouragement for me to see how much they like the songs, and they really need content related to Chinese culture/' With an international vision, Gong will continue to write songs based on Chinese folk music or ancient poems.
Gong said children should learn about the beauty of Chinese music. Only when you know about your own sounds, can you have cultural confidence.
24. Why is the song Search High and Low arranged at the concert?
A. Because Gong is a renowned Chinese musician.
B. Because people are expected to search their roots.
C. Because Gong's music teaching method is practical.
D. Because Gong wants to deliberate her music teaching method.
25. What should the popularization of Chinese music depend on according to Gong?
A. Music academies. B. The support of the government.
C. Primary and secondary schools. D. Famous musicians across the country.
26. What is Gong's future plan in music?
A. She will train more children to study abroad.
B. She will perform more concerts to promote Chinese music.
C. She will help children learn about the beauty of various types of music.

27. What's the best title of the passage?

Many of us like to dine out and treat ourselves to delicious food. We are used to choosing hearty (丰盛的), fat-filled dishes and sugar-charged (充满糖分的) desserts, which are not easily cooked at home.
The recent rise of light meals, however, gives diners a smarter choice. According to Economic Daily, low-calorie, low-fat and high-fiber meals have become popular in China’s restaurants and online delivery platforms.
The country saw a rapid expansion of restaurants specializing in light meals, from just 600 in 2017 to more than 3,500 in 2018. According to a report released by Meituan, a major online food delivery platform, the number of light meals ordered online also rose 75 percent from the previous year.
Having a light meal, however, doesn’t mean eating only vegetables. Different from the meat-free lifestyle, a typical light dish avoids oily, salty and spicy food. Instead, it contains things like boiled meat, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Healthy nutrients are the theme of the light meal.
These dishes are useful for keeping healthy and controlling your weight. That’s probably why so many people, especially millennials (千禧一代), are into them. Diners see it as “a great way to avoid bloating (变胖),” wrote the Telegraph.
“After eating several light meals, I felt my appetite has shrunk. I now prefer light flavors,” Zou Jing, a college teacher in Wuhan, told China Daily. She shared a picture of her lunch: a mixture of beef, eggs, corn, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes.
These changes in eating behavior are connected to deeper changes in how people think about food, says Walter Willett, chair of the nutrition department at the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health, US. “Diet quality, not quantity (数量), is important for both weight control and long-term well-being,” Willett told The New York Times.
So the next time you have a party with friends, try a light meal. It will satisfy not only your stomachs but maybe also your hearts.

Nobel prize-winners, legendary authors, and famous scientists – you might think all these people were born to be creative. However, that’s not always the case.
While well-known figures like Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein did their most significant work in their youth, famous American poet Robert Frost and English-born natural scientist Charles Darwin were known as “late bloomers” – people whose talents were not noticeable until later in life.
This idea of “peaking” at different times inspired new research from the United States. “Many people believe that creativity is exclusively (独有地) associated with youth, but it really depends on what kind of creativity you’re talking about,” said Bruce Weinburg, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago and co-author of the study.
According to the study, published earlier this month in the journal De Economist, there are two types of people: conceptual and experimental thinkers.
To reach this conclusion, researchers took the 31 previous winners of the Nobel Prize in economics and arranged them according to when they did their most significant work, to identify their creative peaks.
Some peaked from ages 25-29. Classified as conceptual thinkers, these people think outside of the box, coming up with new ideas before they become used to the conventional way of doing things.
The second creative peak came with economists in their 50s. These are experimental thinkers who have been in their fields for a long time. This allows them to learn from errors and experiment with different processes, before eventually finding new solutions.
“Whether you hit your creative peak early or late in your career depends on whether you have a conceptual or experimental approach,” said Weinburg. He added that their study isn’t limited to economics, saying it can apply to other creative disciplines (知识领域). So if you’re struggling to come up with new ideas, don’t panic. Your creative peak may be yet to arrive.
32. What did the study from the US find?
A. Young people are not necessarily more creative than old people.
B. Most people take a conceptual approach when thinking.
C. One’s creative peak is related to their job type.
D. Conceptual and experimental thinkers hit their peaks at different times.
33. What does the underlined word “conventional” mean in context?
A. Easy. B. Unusual.
C. Traditional. D. Appropriate.
34. What do we know about experimental thinkers?
A. Their talents usually bloom in their 20s.
B. They are good at doing experiments.
C. They work out new methods based on experience.
D. They are more successful than conceptual thinkers.
35. What would Weinberg probably agree with?
A. It’s difficult to find one’s talent in later years.
B. More research needs to be done about creative peaks.
C. Conceptual thinkers could be more successful in the art field.
D. Experimental thinkers from other fields may be most successful in their 50s.

37 Settle down, super men and women. While it's fine to pride yourself on your abilities to multitask, it's in your best interest (and your employer's) if you stick to one to-do at a time. Somewhere along the lines, our culture has embraced and promoted this idea that the more we can do at once, the better. 38 In fact, the more we multitask, the less efficient and productive we become in all the tasks we are trying to accomplish.

Attracted by the cheers from the living room, I opened the door only to find my parents were watching the volleyball matches of women's final. Then I decided to take the break and joined in them. The sense of nervousness was overwhelming as the score was quite closely between China and its opponent.
