He was holding down two jobs at the time and Saturday was his busiest daybut he chose to give free haircuts to poor kids. Several times later he had a light-bulb momentThe kids should earn their free haircut by having to read a book to him.

      The idea was so popular that he continued it the first Tuesday of every month for the next two years. Kids would grab a favorite booksettle  into the barber chairand read aloud while Holmes was hair-cuttingoffering help when kids had trouble reading.

      Holmeswho is married and has two sonsaged three and fourrecognizes not every parent has the time to read with their kids.I get it. You have four kidsand youre working two jobs. Sitting down and listening to them read is the last thing you have time to do. So bring your kids in and let them read to me.

      Holmes admits he benefits from the free activity.There was a seven-year-old who struggled through his booksaid Holmes.I had the boy take the book home and practice. When the child came back a few days laterhe read it with no problems. That inspires me.

    Make and use flashcards.

Watch documentaries or videos on YouTube and educational websites. You may be surprised at how much you can learn from videosand just how much information is available online.

    Rewrite your notes.

      Studies have shown that writing information out by hand increases your ability to remember the material. This makes the recall go hand in hand with muscle memory.  5 

      These are the four most effective study habitsand something all successful students do. Make sure you are on top of your game by following these study methods!

    B. One method of revising is to make a mind-map.
