Dedicated educator is on a mission to revive rural education in a remote mountainous community and provide the best education to its children, one school at a time.
With her ponytail and big, square glasses, Cheng Feng looks every bit the schoolteacher. Yet, to many of her students, the 33-year-old is more than that. Cheng’s care for her rural students has extended beyond the classroom and makes her a mother figure to them all.
During the just past summer vacation, Cheng didn’t take time off but paid home visits to rural students of the Liling Primary School, which is located in the mountains more than 120 kilometers from the central area of Poyang county, East Chin’s Jiangxi province.
Most students have been left behind by their parents, who have to go to work far away from home and are looked after by their grandparents.
“Seeing these special families and special children is what made me realize the importance of rural education, and it is one of the major reasons why I have stuck around all these years,” says Cheng, who also grew up in Poyang.
Since learning that one of her students, Tan Yeting, and her brother, were just depending on the small income of their grandparents’ handmade broom business, Cheng would pay regular visits to Tan’s home. She would check the homework assignment of the two children, play games with them and cut their hair. These interactions have helped both children grow in confidence and shake off their timid nature at school.
“Cheng is just like our mother,” Tan says.
“I feel like I can talk to her about anything,” she adds.
Cheng voluntarily chose to move to the school last year after she learned it was in need of faculty members. She has since helped to improve the teaching facilities, and went out of her way to reach children scattered around the surrounding rural area and persuade them to come to school.
Thanks to her efforts, approximately 200 children in the neighborhood have been able to enjoy a better education.
4. What was Chen Feng doing during the past summer vacation?
A. She was on a holiday in the mountain.
B. She was looking after her students in school.
C. She was helping her students with their homework assignment.
D. She was visiting her rural students in remote areas.

Fewer than 250 people have feasted their eyes on the Titanic since it was discovered on the seabed of the North Atlantic Oceans in 1985, but a small number of citizen explorers will make the epic two-mile journey to the depths this year.
OceanGate Expeditions announced its second annual expedition to the wreck in the summer of 2022. The Titanic Expedition is conducted as a series of eight-day missions starting in May and ending in June 2022, and each seat costs $250,000.
Aaron Newman, OceanGate Expedition Mission Specialist during the 2021 trip, said in a statement: “This is one of the most interesting and unique experiences I have ever had. Less than around 200 people have ever been down to the Titanic and seen the wreck in 110 years. Even diving to almost 4000 meters in a submersible(潜水器) is an experience onto itself. That’s what life is about.”
The citizen explorers will begin their adventure by sailing on the expedition ship from St. John’s in Newfoundland, Canada, to the site of the Titanic wreckage, located 370 miles away. The Titan submersible is equipped with the latest camera technologies to capture ultra-high-resolution imagery(超高清影像) that will help determine the wreck’s rate of decay and assess the marine life that dwell on it. An experienced submersible pilot, P. H. Nargeolet said in a statement: “We have a lot of room inside the Titan submersible. We can have five people in the sub and there is a big view port.”
The Titanic, which was called the “unsinkable ship”, went down on April 14, 1912, four days into her first voyage from Southampton, England to New York. The giant ship collided with an iceberg and in the end, 1,517 of the 2,224 passengers and crew aboard died.
According to the National Oceanic and Atomspheric Adminstration, the ship is likely to collapse within the next 40 years.
8. What did Aaron Newman think of the 2021 expedition to the wreck of Titanic?
A. It was fantastic. B. It was expensive. C. It was demanding. D. It was worthless.
9. What does the underline word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The rate of decay. B. The wreck. C. The high-tech camera. D. The Titan submersible.
10. What do we know about the 2022 Titanic expedition?
A. Explorers will go to the depth of 370 meters under the sea.
B. Explorers can learn about the marine life on the wreck through a high-resolution telescope.
C. Explorers will have a series of eight-day missions in the fall of 2022.
D. Explorers will share a big view port in the spacious submersible.
11. What’s the purpose of paragraph 5?

C. To add the background information. D. To attract people to buy the 2022 trip.
NASA is making preparations to send a crew to the moon who will explore the lunar surface with the hope of constructing a stable habitat. Although the American space agency focuses on just sending astronauts, other companies are looking further into the future for when humans will colonize the natural satellite.
Experts at Money, a company for consumer credit products, released the first-ever moon loan guide that reveals living on the lunar surface would cost $325,067 a month.
“With the Earth becoming increasingly populated and space technology advancing, it won’t be long before lunar living becomes the new normal,” reads the study. The team from Money used various factors to calculate the cost of a house on the moon: raw materials needed to build a house, the special materials needed to build on the moon’s atmosphere, astronauts required to travel to build, and the average cost of transporting materials to the moon.
According to the moon loan guide, the first fully functioning house on the moon would be $48,454,063, which is a high price for a home. The price includes adding life-saving details to homes such as air seals, industrial-strength air-conditioners and heaters. “Generating energy is vital when living in such extreme conditions, and therefore the cost of some supplies may force you to consider some alternative options. The most efficient way to generate electricity on the moon is to buy a small nuclear reactor costing $1.3 million,” Money shares in the study. “Alternatively, 34 solar panels would generate enough electricity to run one house and cost only $23,616 in comparison.”
The guide also reveals the most ideal locations on the moon, with “Sea of Rains” being considered “the perfect family suburb” — this region sits at the north and is one of the largest impact craters in the Solar System.
12. What’s the purpose of NASA sending a crew to the moon?
A. To encourage companies to release moon loan. B. To colonize the moon alone.
C. To explore the moon for natural resources. D. To build a lasting living place on the moon.
13. Which of the following was not considered when the team estimated the cost of a lunar house?
A. Materials needed to build a house on the moon.
B. The cost of looking for the most ideal location on the moon.
C. Astronauts needed to travel to build a house on the moon.
D. The average cost of transporting materials to the moon.
14. What can we infer from the study?
A. Lunar living won’t take long to become a reality.
B. The first house on the moon will be the most expensive home.
C. You will definitely buy a nuclear reactor to generate electricity on the moon.
D. The perfect location on the moon for living is the largest impact crater in the Solar System.
15. What’s the text mainly about?
A. The first loan guide about living on the moon.
B. The moon-the most ideal living place for humans.
C. NASA will send astronauts to the moon.
D. Living on the moon has become possible.

故填on。
故填are。
故填which。
故填were sent。
order sb. to do sth. 故填to arrange。
结合空后“identifying the dead and investigating the cause of the accident.” 故填including。

故that改为where。
Dear fellow students,
I am Li Hua, a senior three student of our school. There exists a very common phenomenon among us that many students stay up late to study and fall asleep in class. Now, I am calling for everyone’s attention to this matter.
What should be stressed is that health comes first in the long journey to success. As far as I am concerned, we should take the following steps to prepare for Gaokao. First, we should focus on what the teachers say in class. In addition, we’d better make the most of the free time to finish the homework. Last but not least, we should try to form a good habit of going to bed early.
I firmly believe that we will make great progress by balancing our study and rest. So let’s take action now!
Li Hua
