On September 1,1985,Dr. Rbert Ballard and his crew sptted ne f Titanic's bilers. They erupted with cheers. By the time f the crew's discvery,73 years had passed since the ship sank. Several missins had set ff t lk fr it, including a 1977 ne led by Ballard.
In the early 1980s, Ballard asked the U. S. Navy t fund the develpment f the Arg, an unmanned camera sled that culd be dragged behind a surface ship at depths f up t 20,000 feet. The Navy were interested in using the Arg t survey the wrecks(沉船)f the U. S. S. Thresher and Scrpin, tw nuclear submarines(潜水
艇)that had been last in the Nrth Atlantic. They eventually agreed that if Ballard culd successfully lcate and
map the tw subs, he culd use whatever time left t lk fr Titanic.
While phtgraphing Thresher and Scrpin, Ballard nticed that the current had carried debris(碎片)frm the ships as they fell t the seaflr, creating a lng chain. With this in mind, he decided nt t search
fr Titanic's main bdy. Instead, he wuld use Arg t search fr its much larger debris track, which might stretch as far as a mile. Once he fund it, he culd use it t track dwn the ship itself. With the new apprach, after a few days, they discvered the biler. Arg stalked the debris track, and the fllwing mrning, Titanic’s bw came ut f the inky depths.
“The Titanic lies nw in 13,000 feet f water, “Ballard said at a press cnference. “There is n light at this great depth and little life can be fund. It is a quiet and peaceful place—and a fitting place fr the remains f this greatest f sea tragedies t rest. Frever may it remain that way.”

In a new study, Iwa Psychlgist Ed Wasserman gave the pigens cmplex categrizatin tests that high- level thinking wuld nt aid in slving. Instead, the pigens, by trial and errr, eventually were able t memrize enugh situatins in the test. This basic prcess f making assciatins—cnsidered a lwer-level thinking technique—is the same between the test-taking pigens and the latest AI advances.
The researchers sught t figure ut tw types f learning: ne, declarative learning, is based n exercising reasn accrding t a set f rules r strategies—a s-called higher level f learning wned mstly by peple. The ther, assciative learning, centers n recgnizing and making cnnectins between bjects r patterns. such as "sky-blue" and "water-wet"
Wasserman’s team designed a difficult test t find ut whether the pigens use declarative r assciative learning. Each test pigen was shwn a stimulus(刺激)and had t decide, by pecking (啄) a buttn n the right r n the left, t which categry that stimulus belnged What made the test s demanding was that n rules r lgic wuld help finish the task. They have t memrize the individual stimuli r regins frm where the stimuli ccur. Over hundreds f tests, the fur test pigens eventually upped their scre frm 50% t an average f 68% right.
"The pigens are like Al masters," Wasserman Says. "Bth f them emply assciative learning, and vet that base-level thinking is what allwed the pigens t ultimately scre successfully." If peple wre t take the same test, they'd scre prly and wuld prbably give up because they rely s heavily n rules r strategies. Thse rules wuld get in the way f learning. The pigen desn’t have that high-level thinking prcess. But it desn't get in the way f their learning. In fact, in sme ways it facilitates it.
"Peple are stunned by AI ding amazing things using a learning algrithm(算法)much like the pigen."
Wasserman says, yet when peple talk abut assciative learning in humans and animals, it is discunted as inflexible and uncmplicated."
Which f the fallwing is a typical example f assciative learning?
Tm refuses t put hands n ht stves after burns.
Dlphins detect bstacles using sund waves.
Chimpanzees use physical gesture strategies.
Emily figures ut math prblems with lgic.
Hw did the pigen imprve their perfrmance in the test?
By pecking the stimuli.
By finding rules r lgic.
By cmpacting with each ther.
By making numerus attempts.
What can w infer frm the last paragraph?
Al and man use the same learning pattern.
Assciative learning ls underestimated.
Peple think highly f declarative learning.
Pigens finish tasks with Al algrithms.
Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
Pigen's Peck Can Mirrr High Tech
AI Cntributes t a New Learning Pattern
AI Can Enrich Human Learning Experience
Pigen's Learning Largely Extends High Tech

We are masters f distractin especially when we feel an uncmfrtable emtin surfacing. And ur sciety makes it easier than ever.36Thse range frm vides n TikTk t nline shpping.
But des distractin really help deal with emtins? Or des it merely wrsen the prblem?37.
In sme ways it can help, and ftentimes distractin avids the rt f the prblem.
In the lud wrld in which we live nwadays, aviding an emtin is easier than prcessing it. During
the sequencing f an emtin, distractin ccurs when we first ntice it. The emtin in questin causes physilgical changes and ften causes actin.38. It isn't always a bad thing. There's pretty gd
evidence that distractin can help dwn regulate the anxiety arund a negative emtin.
39. There are lnger md states that last days r mnths, althugh mst emtins nly last a few
minutes befre they pass. That's why,if yu're seeking lng-term slutins, learning t prcess emtins is the nly way. When yu slw dwn and make space fr yur emtins,yu can start t prcess them. 微信公众号IAI English
Jacbs Hendel, a psychtherapist, uses a prcess, which invlves cnnecting yur feet t the flr, deep belly breathing, slwing dwn and then identifying where different emtins are felt in the bdy.40—
nce anxiety ges dwn, yu can identify the ther emtins that are cming up in yur bdy. If the same emtins keep cming up and causing yu stress, learning t sit with them and wrk thrugh them. Facing yur emtins may help yu see that they aren't as scary as yu thught.
Accrding t experts, the answer is a mixed bag
Grabbing yur phne isn't necessarily a bad thing
And feeling them in the bdy is a gd place t start
We feel like emtins are ging t get bigger when we fcus n them
Fr example, if yu're sad, yu draw back; if yu're angry, yu apprach
But distractin isn't a true fix either, because it nly wrks in the shrt-term
Once a negative emtin sets in, we may reach fr varius digital distractins
