    A Special Appointment

      Years ago I moved to Woodland Hills to take a job in a small hospital’s emergency department. No one wanted to work on New Year’s Eveso the shift轮班went to me. I kissed my family goodbye and went off to spend the night in the hospital. It was a thankless job.

      At 9 pmthe ambulance brought in a man in his 60s who was having a heart attack. His face was paleand he was frightened. The whole night I did my best to save his life. Before I left in the morning to spend New Year with my familyI stopped by to see how he was doing. It was still toughbut he had survived the night and was sleeping.

      The following year I got New Year’s Eve duty again. At 9 pm sharpthe ward clerk told me there were a couple who wanted to speak with me. When I approached themthe man introduced himself as Mr. Lee and said,“You probably don’t remember mebut last New Year’s Eve you saved my life. Thank you for the year you gave me.He and his wife hugged mehanded me a small giftand left.

      The following year a new doctor had joined the groupbut I wanted to see if Mr. and Mrs. Lee would return. This timeI volunteered for the shift. I kept an eye on the door. Once againat exactly 9 pmthe Lees appearedcarrying a warmly wrapped bundle. It was their new grandchild.

      Mr. Leehis family and I spent 13 New Year’s Eves together. In the later years the staff all knew about the story and would work to give me time with him in the break roomwhere we spent a half-hour each New Year’s Eve.

    Last year I saw Mrs. Lee alone in the hospital with a gift for me.                                  

                                                                               

      I carefully opened the package and found a crystal 水晶 bell inside with the word “Friendship” engraved雕刻 on it.

    步骤二:戴着镣铐跳舞——研读首句,高度融合原文,合理想象情节

      1.第一段所给首句:Last year I saw Mrs. Lee alone in the hospital with a gift for me.

      上文提到Mr. Lee一家人连续13年和作者一起过新年前夜,结合首句中的alone可知,Mr. Lee可能因病去世,而Mrs. Lee拿着的礼物,可能是Mr. Lee临终前留给作者的。

      2. 第二段所给首句:I carefully opened the package and found a crystal bell inside with the word Friendshipengraved on it.

      作者打开包裹看到的是一个上面刻着单词“友谊”的水晶铃。由此作者所想到的应该是他们一起度过的新年前夜以及他们之间的友谊。

      结尾句:应该围绕the crystal bell收尾。
