Whether yu're buying a huse, a car r secnd-hand furniture, it's likely yu will need t negtiate the price, s being able t negtiate effectively culd save yu significant cash.
Prfessr Linel Page frm the University f Technlgy Sydney (UTS) said pening ffers in real-wrld negtiatins are smetimes intended t signal the "tughness" f the buyer - but whether this strategy actually wrks was nt knwn. "The intermediary ffers made during a negtiatin can be interpreted as suggesting either kind and cmprmising intentins, r unkind and uncmprmising nes," said Prfessr Page. M: Dn’t wrry! I’ll take a bk with me.
W: It’s t nisy t read in the railway statin. I wuld usually lk arund the shps while waiting fr the train.
M: But I’ve already gt all the gifts fr my parents and sisters. I dn’t need t buy anything. If I really can’t fcus n the bk, I may phne up sme friends I haven’t talked t in a while.
W: That’s a nice idea. Betty tld me last time that she ften spent the waiting time writing a t-d list s that she’d nt miss anything in the days t cme.

W: That’s wnderful, but are yu ging t quit cllege?
M: That’s exactly the prblem. One side f me says, “Oh, g ahead! Yu can g back t cllege anytime. What jb culd yu get after cllege that wuld pay yu $15 an hur? That’s $30,000 a year!”
W: And then?
M: And then, the ther side says, “Hld it, nt s fast! Fr all thse years yu were in the army, yu planned t g t cllege s that yu wuld have many jb pssibilities t chse frm. Yu’ve planned yur whle life arund ging t cllege. And nw…”
W: I can see it. It’s true that with yur experience in the army, yu culd d excellent wrk repairing cars if yu accept the jb. But yu are ding very well nw. Just think f the future. Yu will get better jbs.

Text 10
W: Tday, let’s begin with nte-taking techniques. Nte-taking is an imprtant skill nt nly fr taking classes, but als fr ding yur jb in the future. I’d like t draw yur attentin t certain pints abut taking ntes. First, remember that nte-taking shuld be 75% listening and nly 25% writing, s dn’t try t write dwn every single wrd the teacher says. Ignre what is unimprtant and write in phrases, nt cmplete sentences. Secnd, leave spaces and lines between main ideas. Yu may want t add sme infrmatin later. I find that sme f yu are very gd at making use f clr, mapping web, and symbls such as arrws, circles and bxes. I highly recmmend these tls t all f yu, because the use f them makes the utline mre easily readable and interesting than the blcks f text. It als makes sure that imprtant wrds stand ut. Here are sme examples.
