That message and the 30 r s thers like it were exactly what Della was lking fr. T celebrate her 53rd, the lng-time scial service prfessinal had put ut a call n her blg.She wanted t cmmit 53 randm acts f kindness by the end f her birth mnth, and she needed infrmatin n peple wh culd use ne. When she gt the nte abut the Smith family, she sent a wind chime(风铃)with the message“Listen t the wind and knw that I am near”written n it. It nw hangs in the fur-year-ld's bedrm, where his lder brther can g t listen t it whenever he wants.
This is nt the first time that Della has decided t give gifts fr her birthday. Fr her 47th, in 2016, she funded Lve in Actin, an rganizatin cmmitted t ding smething gd near her hme and beynd. Its aim is simple: D Yur Best, Shw Yur Lve!
Over the years, the rganizatin has reached ut and tuched well ver 100 strangers, sme fund via Dclla's blg, thers with help frm her grandkids. The rganizatin als shares inexpensive and creative gift ideas fr thers t help peple in need.

A.She thinks little f her family's cancer.
B.She treats strangers better than her family.
C.She is financially dependent n her family.
D.She is t ready t give away her birthday gifts.
24.A。 One was abut the Smith family wh had just lst their fur-year-ld sn t cancer. His lder brther was in deep srrw. Culd Della help?
25.B。推断题 根据第二段的she sent a wind chime(风铃)with the message“Listen t the wind and knw that I am near”written n it.
and knw that I am near"的纸条可知,Della 是个充满爱心,乐于助人的热心肠,所以选B。
26.A。 定位题干Lve in Actin,定位原文第3 段she funded Lve in Actin, an rganizatin cmmitted t ding smething gd near her hme and beynd. 故选A。

Beavers(海狸),like humans, change their surrundings t fit their needs. Knwn as nature's engineers, they tear trees dwn t build hmes t live in and dams t raise water levels fr prtectin frm enemies. Dams als slw water's flw while blcking sediment(沉积物)that wuld therwise flw dwnstream. The resulting wetlands ften attract wildlife diversity where nne had existed. There are challenges, thugh. Beaver dams smetimes cause flding, and mst peple prefer trees alive and upright.
Cmmunities face a delicate balancing act, learning t cexist with beavers. Last winter, many peple enjying Winstn Path became beaver fans as ne furry family transfrmed Swallw Pnd int an asis fr birds, frgs, turtles and deer.
Yet such activity caused cncern. As beavers wrked, they raised water levels abut five feet. The increased depth allws beavers t survive underwater if the pnd ices ver. But cunty fficials were cncerned abut hw higher water wuld affect the sil bank supprting Winstn Path.
T find a gd balance between prtecting the path and the beavers, the cunty intrduced a“ beaver baffle”— a pnd leveler.Beavers ften rush t fill hles in their dams.Baffles stabilize water levels by creating a hidden exit fr high water t escape thrugh the dam, unnticed by the beavers.
Peple lve the beavers but they als lve the mature trees. Recently, Catherine Jnes,18, rganized a tree-caging event — putting wire clth arund large tree trunks t discurage beavers frm biting them. It als prtects peple frm injury due t randm trees falling.“We cver the trees we dn't want them t eat, while planting peridically thers they like,"said Jnes.“We need-t learn t give up a little f ur wants t share the Earth's resurces.”
Swallw Pnd's 2023 prject will restre prper water depth and imprve wildlife habitat
withut creating prblems fr the path. The balancing act cntinues.
28. What is the first paragraph mainly abut?
A. Where beavers' favrite surrundings are.
B. What effects beavers have n their habitat.
C.Why beavers are called nature's engineers.
D.Hw beavers help attract wildlife diversity.
29.Why did the beaver family's activity cause cncern?
A.Swallw Pnd wuld fld ften.
B.Sediment wuld flw dwnstream.
C. The ppular path might be damaged.
D. Beavers might have t live underwater.
30 .What d the underlined wrds“beaver baffle”refer t in paragraph 4?
A.A blck t keep beavers away. B.A tl t fix hles in the dams.
C.A device t maintain water level. D.A material t prtect the sil bank.
31. What is the theme f Swallw Pnd's 2023 prject?
A. Bilgical diversity. B.Harmnius cexistence.
C.Preventin f natural disasters. D.Preservatin f wildlife habitat.
The resulting wetlands ften attract wildlife diversity where nne had existed. There are challenges, thugh.Beaver dams smetimes cause flding, and mst peple prefer trees alive and upright."
根据第三段最后一句“But cunty fficials were cncerned abut hw higher water wuld affect the sil bank supprting Winstn Path"可知:但郡县里的官员担心,更高的水位会如何影响支撑温斯顿小路的土壤库。故C (受欢迎的小路可能会被破坏)为正确答案。
30.C,猜词题。根据第四段最后一句“Baffles stabilize water levels by creating a hidden exit fr high water t escape thrugh the dam, unnticed by the beavers.”
根据最后一段“Swallw Pnd's 2023 prject will restre prper water depth and imprve wildlife habit at withut creating prblems fr the path.”
D
Sme bacteria(细菌)have a superpwer that scientists wuld lve t use. These bacteria gain energy frm light, just as plants d.Scientists have wanted t use cyanbacteria(蓝藻菌)t make electricity. But in previus research, they didn't survive lng n artificial surfaces. Researchers have nw mved them t a living surface — a mushrm. Their creatin is the first mushrm t make electricity.
Applied Physicist Simn Jacksn and his team turned that mushrm int a mini energy farm. This binic(生物电子的)mushrm cmbines 3D printing, cnductive ink and bacteria t generate electricity. Its design culd lead t new ways f cmbining nature with electrnics.
Like plants, cyanbacteria make their wn fd frm sunlight, releasing electrns(电子). When enugh electrns build up in ne place, they can create an electric current.
The researchers needed t bring a lt f these bacteria tgether. They decided t use 3D printing t place them precisely nt a surface.Jacksn's team chse mushrms fr that surface. After all, they realized, mushrms naturally hst cmmunities f bacteria and ther micrbes. Finding test subjects fr their tests was easy. Jacksn simply went t the grcery stre and picked up white buttn mushrms.
Printing n thse mushrms, thugh, turned ut t be a real challenge. 3D printers have been designed t print n flat surfaces, but mushrm caps are curved. The researchers spent mnths writing cmputer cde t slve the prblem. Eventually, they came up with a prgram t 3D print their ink nt the curved mushrm tps.
The researchers printed tw“inks”nt their mushrms. One was a green ink made f cyanbacteria. They used this t make a spiral pattern n the cap. They als.used a black ink made f graphene, which is great at cnducting electricity. They printed this ink in a branching pattern acrss the mushrm tp.
Then it was time t shine.
“Cyanbacteria are the real heres here,”says Jacksn. When his team shne light n the mushrms, the bacteria gave ut electrns. Thse electrns flwed int the graphene and created an electric current.
32.What was the prblem in previus research?
A. Cyanbacteria didn't prduce electrns.
B.Cyanbacteria culdn't get enugh light.
C.The researchers chse the wrng bacteria.
D.N suitable hme was made fr cyanbacteria.
33. Why were mushrms finally chsen as test subjects?
A.They are cnvenient t find.
B.They can prduce electric currents.
C.They are where bacteria can naturally grw.
D.They can be easily cmbined with 3D printing.
34. What is the majr functin f the black ink in this test?
A.T feed bacteria.
B.T deliver electrns.
C.T prduce electricity.
D.T reshape mushrm tps.
35. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
A.Wh are the real heres? B. New applicatin f 3D printing
C.Nature cmbined with electrns D. Binic mushrm makes electricity
根据关键词previus research可以定位到第一段"but in previus research, they didn't survive lng n the artificial surfaces”, they指的是前面提到的蓝藻菌,由此可以得出答案选D,没有适合蓝藻菌生存的hme.
由题干“mushrm were finally chsen as test subjects”可定位到第四自然段,“mushrm naturally hst cmmunities f bacteria and ther micrbes”可知答案为C选项“蘑菇能自然细菌生长的地方”。
由"black ink"可定位到倒数第3段倒数第二句话"which is great at cnducting electricity", 此处考察熟词生义,cnduct 意为"传导”cnducting electricity 与B选项的deliver electrns同义。

Hme gardens prduce delicius fd.But that's nt their main virtue.
Imagine a plate hlding tw strawberries, identical in appearance. One came ut f a super-market bx, prbably harvested unripe. 36 The ther was picked frm a garden minutes befre being eaten. The first ne will prbably taste like a slightly sur grape while the secnd is likely t be sweet and rich in flavur.
Supermarket strawberries are nt entirely withut advantages. They are cnvenient and available in the nrthern glbe even in February. But the tw berries differ frm each ther in the same way that hearing Beethven's Mnlight Snata in a cncert hall differs frm listening t it n an ld tape.. 37
Other peple, hwever, believe gardening a waste f time. But the same culd be said f
cking. There are cheap and decent restaurants arund, s why bther t make yur wn meals? 38 They mistake the prduct fr the purpse.
Actually, a garden, especially in the early years, can prduce little but frustratin(挫败感). New gardeners may plant the wrng crps fr their sil. Rabbits have an annying habit f taking single bites f vegetable, then leaving the rest t g bad.. 39 N matter. The real jy f gardening is the time spent ding it. The deepest pleasure — as with cking, writing, bringing up children r almst anything wrthwhile — is in the wrk itself.A gardener's memries revlve nt arund the fd prduced, but arund lng afternns with hands in the dirt.
40
A.N ne can ever avid this hard stage.
B.S why dn't we start hme gardening fr delicius fd?
C.This might explain why many peple desire a hme garden.
D.These peple misunderstand the ultimate appeal f gardening.
E.By the time it reached the plate it may have been ff the plant fr days.
F.T garden is t patiently and lvingly help life grw, in the grund and abve it.
G.And even expert gardeners can lse a seasn's harvest t uncperative weather.
36-40 ECDGF
36. E.根据空格上一句“One came ut f a supermarket bx, prbably harvested unripe.” 以及下文 “The ther was picked frm a garden minutes befre being eaten”. E “By the time it reached the plate it may have been ff the plant fr days”.
37. C。根据空格前一句“But the tw berries differ frm each ther in the same way that hearing Beethven’s Mnlight Snata in a cncert hall differs frm listening t it n a ld tape.但这两种浆果彼此不同,就像在音乐厅听贝多芬的《月光奏鸣曲》不同于用旧录音带听一样。”这里讲述了家庭花园的优点。即对应C项“This might explain why many peple desire a hme garden.这或许可以解释为什么许多人渴望拥有一个家庭花园。”故选C。
38. D.根据空格前几句“Other peple, hwever, believe gardening a waste f time. But the same culd be said f cking. There are cheap and decent restaurants arund, s why bther t make yur wn meals?然而,其他人认为园艺是浪费时间。但烹饪也是如此。周围有便宜又体面的餐馆,所以为什么要自己做饭呢?”以及下文"They mistake the prduct fr the purpse.他们错误地将产品用于目的。”可知此处应表达这些人误解了园艺的终极魅力。即D项“These peple misunderstand the ultimate appeal f gardening” , 承接上下文符合语境。故选D.
39. G。根据空格上前几句“ Actually, a garden, especially in the early years, can prduce little but frustratin. New gardeners may plant the wrng crps fr their sil. Rabbits have an annying habit f taking single bites f vegetable, then leaving the rest t g bad.另一方面,一个花园,特别是在刚开始的几年,也可能没什么产出,只是带来挫败。园艺新手可能会种植不适合他们土壤的作物。兔子有一个讨厌的习惯,就是只吃口蔬菜, 然后让剩下的就变质了。”以及下文"N matter.这些都不要紧。”可知 此处应选G项 “And even expert gardeners can lse a seasn’s harvest t uncperative weather.即使是专业的园也会因为不配合的天而损失一季的收成。”
40. F。根据空格上前几句 “The deepest pleasure--as with cking, writing, bringing up children r almst anything wrthwhile--is in the wrk itself. A gardener’s memries revlve nt arund the fd prduced, but arund lng afternns with hands in the dirt.最深层的乐趣---就像烹饪、 写作、抚养孩子或任何有意义的事情一样---在于做这件事本身。园丁的记忆不是围绕着生产的食物,而是围绕着长时间的下午,双手沾满泥土。”这里讲述了做园艺活的乐趣, 接下来应该就是继续升华其意义。即对应F项 “T garden is t patiently and lvingly help life grw, in the grund and abve it做园艺活就是耐心地和爱护地帮助那些地上和地下的生命茁壮成长。”故选F。
