    Listening and speaking: Life in different places

    设计说明

    让学生结对练习,谈论自己的社区,复习上一节课的内容。复习一般过去时,为学生能够描述过去的生活做好语言储备。让学生自行制作自己社区的小册子,由此挖掘他们的语言潜力以及创造力。学习对话,结合听录音、朗读、回答问题等活动,提高学生的听力水平及提炼信息的能力。结合课本图片,有意识地引导学生对比基蒂过去和现在的生活,并让他们结对练习,由此锻炼学生的观察能力、语言表达能力以及分析能力。最后,安排学生写一首小诗,描述基蒂过去和现在的生活,既能巩固本节课所学知识,又能激发学生的参与意识。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    复习有关过去和现在生活的对比的内容。

    2.能力目标

    能够听懂有关过去和现在生活的对话,能够发现并表达生活的不同。

    3.情感目标

    善于发现生活的不同,并能调整自己进行适应。

    重点难点

    重点复习有关过去和现在生活的对比的内容。

    难点能够听懂有关过去和现在生活的对话,能够发现并表达生活的不同。

    教学准备

    PPT课件;活动Say and act的录音。

    教学过程

    Step 1 Revision

    1. Get the students to talk about their neighbourhood like this:

    S1: Tell me about your neighbourhood, please.

    S2: It’s very quiet/noisy. There’s a lot of/not much traffic. There are some/a lot of _____. There aren’t any _____. There’s a/an _____.

    S1: Do you live in the city centre or the suburbs?

    S2: I live in the _____.

    S1: Which do you prefer?

    S2: I prefer the _____.

    S1: Why?

    S2: Because it’s _____.

    2. Give the students some words to help them.

    city centres: exciting   convenient    busy  noisy   interesting

    suburbs: peaceful   interesting  pleasant   quiet   relaxing

    3. Ask some pairs to ask and answer in front of the class.

     

    Step 2 Warming up

    1. Review the simple past forms: live-lived; get up-got up; go-went; take-took; watch-watched; swim-swam; read-read.

    2. Give the students some examples to help them understand the simple past tense.

    Where do you live?

    Where did you live ten years ago?

    What time do you get up?

    What time did you get up yesterday?

    Do you go to the libraries at weekends?

    Did you go to the libraries last Sunday?

    Who takes you to the beach?

    Who took you to the beach last time?

    Do you watch TV?

    Did you watch TV last night?

    Do you swim?

    Did you swim last month?

    I read books every day.

    I read books last night.

     

    Step 3 Presentation

    1. Let the students introduce their neighbourhood.

    2. Present a structure of the brochure. Ask them to complete the sentences.

    My block

    I live in ________ Estate. It has ________ blocks. I live in Block ________. It has ________ floors.

    The environment

    I live in the ________ (city centre/suburbs). It is ________ (noisy/quiet). You can see ________ there.

    Shops

    There are ______________________

    _________________________________________________________________________________________.

    Transport

    You can come to my flat by ______________________________  _________________________________________.

    3. Let the students draw several pictures of their neighbourhood. Then let them make a brochure. The pictures include: his/her block, the environment around him/her, some shops in his/her neighbourhood, the transport near his/her neighbourhood.

    4. Ask some students to present their brochures and tell their classmates their neighbourhood.

     

    Step 4 Listen, say and answer

    1. Play the recording. Let the students listen to it.

    2. Let the students practice the dialogue in pairs. Select pairs to read the dialogue.

    3. Let the students answer the following questions.

    (1) How did Kitty and Ben get to school when they lived in the city centre?

    (2) How do they get there now?

    4. Check the answers together.

    Answers: (1) They walked to school.

    (2) They go to school by bus first, then by underground.

     

    Step 5 Look, ask and answer

    1. Show Kitty’s photographs, which show her life in the new flat. Ask the students about the first picture like this:

    T: What did Kitty and Ben do when they lived in the city centre?

    S: When they lived in the city centre, they got up late.

    T: Now they live in the suburbs. What do they do?

    S: They get up early.

    2. Tell the students some expressions about the life in the city centre. Let them continue the practice in pairs.

    In the city centre:

    • get up late

    • go to a restaurant for dinner

    • take Sam to the park

    • watch TV

    • swim in a swimming pool

    • read storybooks in the library

     

    Step 6 Language points

    When we lived in the city centre, we got up late and walked to school.当我们住在市中心的时候,我们起床晚并且步行上学。

    when连词当……的时候

    可引导时间状语从句。从句可以位于主句前或主句后。当从句在前时,主从句之间通常用逗号隔开。

    I loved history when I was at school.我上学时喜欢历史。

    When I was eight, I played basketball.我八岁时打篮球。

     

    Step 7 Homework

    1. Complete the exercises in Workbook 7A on pages 38 and 39.

    2. Write a passage about your life now and in the past.
